A couple of nights ago I made a batch of meatballs - the recipe for which I got off the net, they have rice in them and are called 'porcupines'. They are a bit of a fave with my stepkids, and there were quite a few left over, so I mashed them up and froze some of them in cubes for Joshie. I gave him a cube tonight mixed with a cube of kumara and he loved it, but he's been really unsettled since then, waking up a couple of times in tears, and I'm wondering if maybe I introduced meat or something else in the meatballs (rice, basil, tomato, corn) too soon. Anyone know what the ideal age is to introduce those foods? Joshie is 7 months today.

Thanks!

I just looked on the OhBaby 'starting solids' section quickly and it said to start introducing meat after 6 months so theoretically it should be fine.

But take note of this reaction and maybe hold off on more meat for a few days and see if he is still unsettled and if not, try again and if he is a grump then maybe leave meat for a month or so.

I'm sure that was just reiterating what you already know so I'm not much help but good luck!

ETA - I'd have thought the other foods you mentioned should be fine for his age. Someone correct me if I am wrong!

A couple of my "starting solids" guides from Plunket and my bounty pack have recommended tomatoes and corn be introduced at 8-9 months..maybe the tomatoes are a little too acidic or something?

My family had problems with tomato sauce while still in nappies, it would cause a nasty rash. My daughters haven't had those probs thankfully, but it may have been that.

Next time you could try introducing them at a much lower ratio to potato/kumara/etc.
