Ok to start this off i have been wondering - what brands of portacots are good / great and why?? And higher priced ones vs the cheapies?
I have NO idea which one to get...it will only be a stay over / sleep time, when we go away or at grandparents etc..not an everyday bed! thanks |

We had a Mothers Choice cheapie from KMart, bought it for $120 and sold it for $85 on TM a year later.
Mum has a more expensive one in Aussie with the bassinette fitting which we used for Maya when we were there and the bassinette fitting was great when she was smaller so I didn't get backache putting her in and out. But if you're only using it for a couple of days at a time I wouldn't bother with the basinette fitting as they are quite a bit more $$$ -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

We have one from farmers, it has the bassinette part and a change table bit to attach, it came with a mozzie net too :) It was $100 red dot special! It has been great for over nighters. ------------- Kayla Rose is now 4! James Sydney is nearly 2! |

| to any one that is a bit of a camper or wants something light weight, we have the phil and teds T2, comes with inflatable matress (thermal) and fits into a tiny bag, also has full mozzie cover, for any outdoorsy people a definate must. we also use it at grandparents ect. |

We didn't buy one with a basinette fitting and change table, but it was certainly good the times we did use it. You can still get those ones at very steep discounts at the likes of Baby Factory for around $100.
Guess it depends on how much you think you're likely to use it. We don't use ours near as much as I thought we would. |

We have used a portacot about um... 6 times between the girls I think. So we just borrow from friends, since we have two sets of friends with portacots its never been a problem.
I'm not sure (if I were you) if I would buy in advance if you have people you can borrow off the first time or two. Staying at friends was not as easy as we imagined so we haven't done it as much as we thought. ------------- |

I have a hand me down very old one, but still works fine. We have hardly used it when we've been away, but is great as a playpen/safe place for bub to play - Daniel used to put it up in the shed on the weekends so he could still work on his cars but Hannah was out with him too. Love love love it! (comes with a self inflating mattress) prior to that we had a standard kingston portacot with basinette bit.. it was good just bulky and heavy (and not as comfy as this one). great resale value though..sold on trademe for a $1 less than i paid for it |

we have a kingston one, just plain portacot, it came with a carry bag and folds down nicely, we bought an extra portacot matress to go with it.
We really like ours, it cost us $120 all up and becuase HAleigh had a habit of getting ehr arms trapped in the bars of the cot we moved her into the portacot, best thing we've ever purchased  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

| Oo the other thing I meant to say is Phil and Teds is absoulutly fab to deal with.. I broke my t2 my fault (did something silly as) and they replaced it free of charge anyway and the turn around was less than 2 days. |

We got a brand new one with a Basinette fitting off Trademe (through a importer/seller) for $80. It was really good and we used it heaps as we were always out and about or visiting people around the country. I liked the idea of having a new one but this was a way to get one new without the hefty price tag! ------------- Jen, Charlotte 7 & Kate 3

We've got a Kingston one - can't remember how much we paid for it but I do remember that for months after buying it I saw cheaper (and better looking) ones EVERYWHERE, and I regretted being suckered in by the "sale" sign on ours! It's sturdy and easy to put up but a bit of work to tie up again after use. It's blimmin heavy, and takes up as much space in our car boot as the LPG tank does! If I did it again, I'd buy a Phil & Ted's portacot. ------------- Andie |

Oh yes I forgot to mention that the cheapies are really big if you have to pack them in your car along with everything else. Definitely something worth looking into. ------------- |

And I forgot to say that ours was $125, with the bassinette fitting (which we've never used even though Ella's not too big for it yet. It's sturdy and I think will last us a long time, but if I was using it heaps I'd want to buy a foam mattress for it, 'cause the portacot mattress it comes with isn't cosy. ------------- Andie |

Ours was only $99 - and is a Jolly Jumper one from Farmers and it is just brilliant, easy to put up and down, wheels go great on it even outside. Comes with a mosquito net too - which is great just to keep all the bugs and insects away.
And Olivia just loves sitting in it as a play pen as well as it states on it that it can be used for that as well. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
