Can anyone tell me what age it is you can stop sterilising bottles? I know your suppose to boil the water till they are 12 months (or have i got that wrong) but when is it you can stop with the sterilising?

I was told 3 months to stop boiling water and steralising bottles (by Plunket Nurse, Karitane Nurse and DR) even though it says different on the tin. I still use the steralizer once a day though and instead of cooled boiled water, I use warm tap water. New Plymouth has flourogated water and Olivia needs it for her TEEF!

oh really, that makes me feel better thanks. She has just gone 5 months and everything goes in her mouth so i thought well why do i still sterlise everything, at least bottles are washed, hate to think where half the stuff she tried to put in her mouth has been. I remember with Kobe we sterilised and used boiled water for ages because we thought that was what you had to do.

"They" (the books etc) say to sterilise the bottles because milk might get left behind even after washing and grow germies.
So we'll be sterilising her bottles and stuff until she doesn't need them anymore. As for dummies and toys - I still sterilise the dummies. Toys I just rinse.

Yeah I still boil his water too, as he doesn't tend to like it cold either so luke warm is good. Gave him his sipper cup with water in it today and he drunk out of it properly for the first time.

So does that mean you can stop sterilising the teats too? Or just the bottles? Everynight I use milton tablets and everything gets chucked in a bowl and sits on the bench... would be good when I dont have to do that anymore!!

I stopped sterilising at about 6 months. I soak the bottles (and teats) in hot soapy water for a little while then give them a good scrub. I still boil (and cool) the water for Morgan's bottles though, however her water at mealtimes comes out of the tap (to get her used to it). To be honest, we could probably stop boiling now i'd say as she is drinking tap water....
