Starting giving a spoon to your baby so they could learn to feed themselves.

Rhiannon is now always trying to get the spoon off us and it is making feeding her very interesting if not messy.

I cant remember when we started with kobe but you could try giving her a spoon to play with while you feed her. that might keep her entertained.
I cant believe she is 8 months old already!!! feels like only yesterday you had her and i was waiting for Addison to be born.

I think my girls did their own spooning after 6 months. Like you say, very messy. First I tried giving them their own spoon but that didn't last long. Then I would give them as much meal as I possibly could before relinquishing the spoon to the chubby grasp. By about 9 months, anything finger-food was my desired choice for feeding them!

First things first, make sure you have an easy-clean mat under the highchair . Another thing you could try for a would-be-self-feeder is to give her a "finger" of toast which she can dip and eat.

I give Lachlan a toy to entertain himself with while trying to feed him because sometimes he tries to knock the spoon out of the way. It works. Lachlan isn't really into his finger food yet unfortunately.

Leo constantly grabs the spoon off me so I have been letting him feed himself by filling up the spoon and giving it to him, he does pretty well, doesnt need any help getting the food in! No way is he getting his hands near the bowl though!!

To9mme Tippee does a bowl that suction cups to the high chair tray! Taine and I "Share" the feeding. he has one spoon and I have another. we both feed him, although his spoon is less for getting things in his mouth (thats what the other hand is for!). We did the same thing with Jake and he at 2 years old feedd himself beautifully with a fork and spoon. It is messy, but then, it's also how they learn.

i've only just started giving mikey the spoon. so far he hasn't actually got any food in his mouth with it, it's more for spreading the food through his hair (nice look) and chucking it over the side of the highchair. it keeps him entertained though so i can shovel some food into him.

Kazzle we got a couple of plastic tablecloths from spotlight (they cut it off a roll, you can just get whatever size you like) for under the highchair. Every now and then Hannah and I will take them outside and fingerpaint them with Lux Flakes fingerpainting (all beaten and frothy) They are great though, little clean-ups can be easily done with shovel and brush or damp cloth.

Hmm....I still feed Zaara...but finger foods she eats/drops/chucks all over on her own. Any thing else I feed her...even tho these days she wants to feed herself. I will let her feed herself as soon as I went an bought the plastic table cloth from spotlight!! (thanks Busymum)
