Man this is hard. I've tried a couple of things tonight - I went in there and rubbed his tummy and gave him a cuddle then left him for about 1/2 hour with him stopping and starting. Then went back in and offered him a bottle with water wouldn't have a bar of it. Left the room again and its now an hour since he first woke - these been a long pause but time will tell.

Aw, it is really hard huh?
Ella was about the same age when we started it with her.
It took 3 nights of re-settling before she slept through, but since then she has been a wonderful sleeper, only waking if she is sick or had a bad dream.
First night she cried for 3 hours on and off, second for 1.5 and third about 15 minutes. She was always her happy self in the mornings so not emotionally scarred by the experience as I worried she would be
All I can suggest is stick with it and be consistent, it take 3 days to change a habit (which was true for us) and sometimes it needs to be replaced with a new one. I started giving Ella her cuddly instead of her bottle.
Hang in there, it can be done and you won't look back once these hard few nights are over.

Well go figure he slept right through from 7pm to 6.15am this morning. He is a clever little man and can do it when he wants to.

Okay keeping you up to date - he slept till 5am this morning but woke full on screaming, so went in to feed him as hey it had been 10 hours and then he went back down till 7am (great time).

He was so ready for his first nap this morning but just fought it, got him down on the second try so all good.

He'll be excited to see his daddy tonight as he's been away for the week.
