Ok i have a poo question.
I have brought some johnson and johnson liners for her naps to use until we get past explosions and balance her bowel movements properly.
What i am wanting to know is can these be flushed down the loo?
If you dont use liners how do u get the poo into the toilet without making a mess?
They probably sound like really silly questions but its puzzling me!! Im so glad she did an explosion in her nighttime disposables tonite!!!
TIA!

I didn't flush the liners with Maya, but I also didn't bother flushing the 'explosions' off them - just disposed of the whole liner in a scented nappy sack.
I have been a bit naughty and have been flushing them with the twins, but suspect that is what caused the blocked toilet we had last week so have since stopped...

When I was looking into doing cloth when Ella was younger I remember there are a brand which are flushable, don't know what it is.. but check your box as it should say if they can be flushed or not.

Nope, you can't flush them... unless you want a blocked toilet like Emma.
You can buy flushables ones though... http://www.nappydays.co.nz/website/product_info.html?rsku=2054&cart=116608683525836829 - http://www.nappydays.co.nz/website/product_info.html?rsku=2054&cart=116608683525836829
And when they are more solid you can just shake the nappy and the poo falls into the toilet... then you might have to give it a quick blast with water in the laundry sink to clear the residue.
Otherwise yeah... get some flushable liners

Then you can pick up in Welly and not worry about $3.50 for postage... if that is more convenient anyway.

I was just washing the cloth naps, doing a prewash 1st.
By 5 months they were gettin hard so went and got some flushable liners and while I got them I got a potty aswell.
Used 1 liner out of the box.
Potty was much better. Less mess.

Yep you're not supposed to flush those liners, in fact I don't think flushable liners are stocked in supermarkets yet.
I don't bother getting the ick off them, I only flush if there's a lump (which happens after 1yo-ish). The rest just goes in the rubbish as is.

Like everyone else has said you cant flush th blue Johnsons ones - I thought it did say on the box... Get some fushable ones like Nikki said if you want to use liners, you can get cloth ones but won't help your problem.

You'd think that if there was any sense in the world, all the liners out there would be flushable..... it's crazy that they're not! Alas.

In some ways using liners with modern cloth defeats the purpose... (to me anyway!)

I agree!! We've used the flushable liners with our nappies but using the flushable ones does seem to defeat at least one of the purposes of cloth nappies!
As I say we did start out using flushables but I never replaced them when we ran out. Now I just shake the excess of or use toilet paper to remove it. We also use toilet paper to wipe Maddie up after a pooey nappy as we use cloth wipes as well.
I then dry pail them and do a pre-rinse to get rid of all the yukky stuff then a hot wash with double rinse at the end. They all come out clean as!

lol I've been flushing them down the toilet too!! Opps! Everyone I know does so I thought it was ok. I use the J&J's ones as wipes, Astons only every had a wet wipe used on him once and he got nappy rash, but all along ive used them and I have a bucket for the wet ones and a bucket for the clean ones, bad poopy ones I throw. then I wash them and reuse them.
I could'nt get the hang of cloth nappies...

I've just started using washable liners with my clothies. They're not necessary but I suspect they will extend the lifespan of the nappies... maybe

I understand what you're saying but at least a liner is quite a bit smaller than a disposable nappy.. imagine all the liners out there floating in the sea with the fishies and everything else.. but woohoo! we are almost done with nappies here!

Its not just the rubbish side of it. Also that another benefit of modern cloth is the nice soft fabrics against baby's bum, not more rough paper. Funnily enough, the flushable liners are soooo stiff and rough, at least the johnsons ones are soft-ish.

We've never used a liner with the Fuzzis. I don't see the point when the poop just falls off into the toilet anyways.
Any stubburn residue I rinse in the laundry tub then like Paws, rinse cycle, heavey duty wash cycle, rinse cycle.
Our nappies do smell a little bit stale, but that's only because our clothes line is in the garage. These past few days when it's been nice all day long I've put them outside to air, and it's true - putting them outside really does get rid of all of the stains and smells

Well you know there are always mama pads for us mums to enjoy once a month! I LOVE mine! So much nicer than disposables.

Well, no worse than dealing with throwing it away I reckon! Just straight into a bucket of water and then throw the whole lot in the machine... easy peasy
If I was a pad girl I'd definitely be using them. But I don't have anything at the moment due to the injection... so I'll investigate the mooncup when I go off it.

I throw mine in with the nappy wash each day....easy as! If you're used to dealing with cloth nappies it's really no different either. I just got my new Outrageous mama pads from Greenbeans today - so gorgeous!!!. And yup the ones I have, have wings also.
I have a dedicated container that they get soaked in then thrown in the wash. It's so easy.
The soaking water is used on our plants as it's very similar to blood and bone and does miracles!
The other thing I love is that many women have reported having lighter shorter periods and it's true! Mine have been heaps shorter so far.
Next on my list is a mooncup!
I didn't know Fuzzi's did them also...might have to have a look.

WHat on earth is a moon cup?
Oh nah i wont go with the mama ones i have the most insanely heavy periods (go through a pad in an hour type of deal) and i feel yucky enough as it is when i have them the last thing i wanna do is deal with that aswell lol

A mooncup is an alternative to tampons....it's a cup which is inserted and collects the blood...you just pull it out a couple of times a day and empty it and rinse it....easy as!
I also love that things save me a small fortune! When I do the shopping I don't have to buy pads, tampons, nappies or wipes....bliss!!

That actually sounds quite interesting, I always forget to buy new ones so when the bit$% shows up I never have anything on hand! Might be a bit gross at first but I guess after dealing with Ella's poo, vomit, everything else, it can't be too bad!

My theory on dealing with anything like that is - that's what soap and water are for! As soon as you wash your hands, all gone.

I personally think that after dealing with a truely offensively pooey nappy dealing with a mama pad is nothing!!
And as I say...I really love that I don't have to buy any of that stuff now. Will be even better once I get my mooncup.

Hey all...
Sorry to bump this back up, I just had a question re mooncups...
Has anyone here actually used a mooncup before? I have been looking into getting one for the past year or so, but am still not sure... Want to hear others experiences.
Paws, do you use mama pads still or have you got a mooncup?
Chur!

There is a whooooole big long thread on using moon cups on http://www.thenappynetwork.org.nz - The Nappy Network
Apparently it takes a bit of getting used to, but once you are then it's fab!

I also like the look of the mama pads (if I chicken out of the mooncup).
Too cool!

Hope we manage to convert ya to modern cloth as well

Hehe, thanks. I found the thread.
Hubby and I are TTC at the moment and when we finally are successful we have pretty much decided we will be using fuzzis (also, we just moved to christchurch so have the subsidies).
But this site and all of your threads has definately been the deciding factor (also am friends with Jezsika so have seen little Ella's cool fuzzis and Jess singing their praise )
So you've already converted me! Hehe.
