the kids and I were due to go to Palmy on Thursday for my grandfather's ninetieth birthday party. Thursday morning and the kids were a bit grumpy, we got in the car and by Napier, Taine was coughing a fit and Jake could barely talk. Got into Pal,y and went straight to the doctor and they measured the kids oxygen levels. Taine's was 95% and Jake's was 83%. So they put Jake on a nebulizer and still it was really low so trhe kids got their first ride in an ambulance to the hospital. got there and Jake was immediately given oxygen and then an inhlaer every fifteen minutes. by this time it was 10pm. Jake was terrrified and kept hiding from the nurses screaming "no mama". he hid behind the rubbish at one point. it was so sda. then they gave him some steriods of which he spat out three times. So we got admitted with both boys. They gave Jake ventolin every fifteen minutes for about four hours, then went to half hour. the next day jakewas much better and eventually they discharged him on "gate" leave which meant that he was still officially a patient, but we could go home. If anything happened we could go back up to the hospital. taine had to stay another night as he was still so chesty, so mum took Jake and I stayed up with Taine. In the middle of the night they did his obs. His oxygen level dropped to 79% when an alarm went odff. Turned out they had a faulty machine cause they did it again on another machine and it was okay. So finally at 1pm the next day we were discharged. God, I am just exhausted. It was so scary cause I had two sick kids, and I had to chose who to comfort. It enddd up beingJake as Taine would go to mum easily but Jake wouldn't.

What a lovely trip!!!!

Boys are okay now, but both on ventolin every four hours. Lots of fun to give! BUT I have found that jake being allowed to press the button and to "help" give me the medicine helps a lot, and rather than the three nurses it took in the hosptial, I can do it myself.

What set them off was officially a "virus" which of course is doctor's code for "we don't know"...

The best part was in the ambulance when Jake sat there going "cool mama" every two minutes. the door was "cool", the windows were "cool" and the seat was "cool". it was really cute.

Big hugs Liz! Glad to hear the boys are much better now, and I can totally relate to how scary it is having sick kiddies, and not knowing which one to comfort first - have had a bit of that myself in the past few weeks!

I bet Emma! I found one thing of comfort - there was a little boy there = obviously a "regular" and I was thinking - well thank goodness the boys are usually healthy and if they have asthma - well, at least it is controllable and won't impact their lives too much. If asthma is all they get, then I'm probably lucky.

I can honestly say though - this xmas/new year has not been the best! with fighting with the in laws and the hospital visits, I'm exhausted! AND I rang Lew last night to find MIL has "rearragned" our kitchen. How very..."helpful" of her. Second bloody time and now I'll have to put it all back.

Far out, Liz - what an awful Christmas/New Year!  Hope it never happens again!  (and uh... she's rearranged the kitchen again?!?  Oh my.  That just takes 'awkward' to a whole new level!).

Third time andie!!! thought she would've gotthe hint when i wandered again muttering "can;t find anything in my own kitchen", and then changed everything back!

BUT got kinda good news. My grandfather is ninety and quite ill. We aren't so close but I still feel icky saying this. Dad told me that my inheritance is "significant" adn when i mentioned that I would put in a term deposit and put towards our house deposit savings, he gave the impression it WOULD be a house deposit...by itself. Sol ooks like we may be able to move. i hate saying that though cause although my gf is not the nicest of people, it still isn't nice to talk about that kinda thing. so kinda good, but really ick at the same time.
