aw so different when its your own. Rhyley had his on friday and was pretty upset and sore the rest of arvo and night, got temp but came down with Pamol - and the nurse said he shouldn't need it - i should of known but the other two I don't remember getting a temp although I could of forgotten it is a while ago.
I sure what I just said doesn't help you, sorry but being a nurse I am sure you know what to expect

Yeah but I lose persective when its my own children. I freak out lol. I guess if it was an emergency situation I could switch to nurse mode but the rest of the time Im a worrying mum first. Funny thing is ALL my friends ring for advice night and day about their kids and Im fine.....Weird aye!!!

I bet that must be hard I hate imms too but I haven't got the nursing background as well. Question though: why the same leg?

Because they have brought the menzb into the schedule, that means babys are having 3imms at their scheduled visits, so they are needing to put 2injection in one thigh. All 3injection are needing to be put into the muscle (IM injections) and the only place is thighs for babys. Before the menzb the injections were 1 in each thigh but with the 3 now, 2 in the same thigh. You can chose to have 1 in each thigh and come back for menzb. I ALWAYS give mums the option, as some mums dont feel comfortable with 3injection in one day. Personal preference. Nurses are only there as a supplier of information and support. I hate it when my friends tell me their practice nurse is bullying them into different things.

Yeah I have been getting all 3 at once and feel so sorry for Alyssa when it's being done.. I was given the option and figured it was better to get them over and done with in one hit. The only thing I notice about different nurses giving the imms is that one of them gave the leg a pinch and the other just jabbed the needle straight in....I'm sure the pinch must hurt less but maybe not...she cries either way We have to take her for her next lot on Monday..

Yes most mums do the 3 at one time thing just to get it over and done with. Good luck for Monday with Alyssa , Im up for Tuesday for 6wk chk and imms.

Thanks for explaining that Kels. We haven't done any MenzB so we're still one in each thigh for those imms - the old-fashioned way

Kels thanks for that info. Its nice to hear things from a person that does the job, but isn't pushing the info at you. At this stage i'm holding the MenZb back until after this one is 5 months (well that is the plan) I think all I could take is 2 jabs at once.
But good luck for tuesday.

Hey There Becks, Not sure if you know this, but since you are holding off on the menzb schedule till after 5mths, your babe will only need the 3menzb injections not four. Babes are only given the forth dose at 10mths if they received their first dose before 5mths as their level of immunity is lower than if they were older after the three injections. However Im not promoting waiting till 5mths as the risks are still high for meningitis, but I do believe in giving all the info for mums to make informed decisions.. I have had mums come into my surgery asking what I would do for my own kids imms and I always explain that I have my nursing opinion and my Mummy opinion, as I dont mix the two. At the end of the day I am a mum first and sometimes having too much info can make me neurotic lmao. Good on you Becks for making your own informed decision .

wow I didnt realsie they brought the menzb into the schedule, thats good. I remember taking HAleigh in for 6 wks then again not long after for menzb etc. All though it never bothered her not eve a scream outta her (very lucky we had a chilled baby lol).
I wonder whats going to happen when we move to OZ then, case bubs will be born in June and we'll be moving in Aug/ Sept so it will be on a different imm schedule, and they use different imms to us and charge for some that are free for us.
Good Luck for Tuesday I'm sure is going to be a brave little trooper, I find they generally are more brave than mum lmao

Good luck for Tuesday, I know how you feel - I had to have my mum in for our six week jabs, and I cried more than Erin did !! The ones after that were ok, although I still felt bad for Erin.

Haleighsmum, get in touch with the health board of the state you are going to as they are all different over there. Find out what they imms for and at what age then try and work out with the NZ imms how they will all fit. Another option is to just start the imms over in OZ when you get there. I had most of mine done in OZ (many years ago) and got the chicken pox imms for free (that was 1982 thou).

Monique is is ok to start the imms schedule here and then when in oz they will have guidelines on how to catch up to their schedule and different imms being given there. You can ring the immunisation co'orinator for Hutt Valley on 5666999 ask For Trish Thomson

Well, Alyssa had her imms this morning and so far she seems happy enough and still smiling. Last time it took a few hours to kick in and she was really grizzly and unhappy for 3 days so I'm hoping this time may be different.. This time around I was able to get Pamol into her unlike last time so maybe it really does help?
Good luck for your appt tomorrow Kels - I hope Alize just ends up sleeping really well and no grizzles... Alyssa was great after her 6 weeks imms, just really sleepy :)
