Jess, have a look at ero.govt.nz, they have a list of childcare places in your area. Then you can have a look at the reports on the centres to see what they say about them. Once you have got a list from there of one you like. Ring up the places and ask to go and have a look. They usually say not between 11am and 2pm as thats lunch and sleep time so try and make the appointment for just after 2pm so you can se how things are at a rush time. The person that takes you through should give you an info pack on the place and it should include a price list and the min hours they can be booked for. Also you could be eligable for the childcare subsidy so have a look at that as well workingforfamilies.govt.nz.

As for places in Welly, sorry can't help. My sister is a nanny done there so I could see if she has heard of any places for you if you want.

yeah our closest one get rubbished in reports and still hasnt bought themselves up..despite being in a total catch area for them to do really well!!!

I disagree about making an appointment tho...avoid sleep times but i say turn up unannounced...i did to one and was shocked to find one baby (admittedly out of say ten) left alone on back on floor away from any carers or children and just lying there...broke my heart and they were so embarassed...also the carers hadnt had time to prepare a speech and had no idea of the daycare policies (these were the ones in the baby area!!) as to nappies or breastmilk being bought in. Oh yeah and they wanted to charge $275 for 4 days...!!!! My baby will NOT be going there...despite their lovely toys etc...
Turn up unannounced i say...

Thats why I as a Nanny who unfortunately has to do care in my own home kind of disagrees with Childcare Centres.
I am available in the Howick/Bucklands Beach areas of Auckland but as I said you would have to bring your baby or toddler to me.
The reason I have to do it in my own homeis because I have to be home after school for my special needs daughter and I look after my granddaughter Cailtyn whose mum Kelly is also a member of this site.

Any babies/toddlers I look afte I take to a church playgroup and to music and movement groups.
But in a home situation they get one to one care and more attention

I also when I look after babies would go with the Porse programme where a programme manager comes every month and gives ideas and I write in a daily journal.

Also I have a dog but she would be out of the way when babies/toddlers were awake and I would let her out when babies/toddlers were asleep.

feel free any East Auckland Mums to
phone 534 8895 or 021 187 3131
Cheers Sue
