Wow Trish thats fantastic! I didn't realise they could go in a cot when they are still on CPAP! Is he still on oxygen or just room air? Any ideas how much longer on CPAP? Isn't it so cool when you can dress them for the first time, I would play dress up with Ashleigh and all the nurses would come and see what she was wearing that day!!!!

They get moved into a cot when they can hold there own body temperature and are 1800g... well Aidan could hold his own body temp but was only 1710g... but they still said it was ok and yes they can still be on CPAP
When he is on CPAP he is on 24-30% Oxygen (21% is room air... so no not there yet)
but he is having 8-10 hours off CPAP and just on Oxygen Prongs
It was great getting him dressed... but as we suspected she told us to put too much on him! poor thing got so hot (39.0) that he was back to only in a nappy today!!! (he was in... long sleeve double breasted singlet, Cardi, hat, wrapped up in a cot/bassinet sheet then he had a polorfleece blanket on top
The dress ups sounded like fun... any photos?
How is Ashleigh Doing? have you had many problems since leaving the hospital? does she need to go back to the hospital for anything? (sorry being nosey!)

Here are a couple of pics - can't seem to find the others at the moment!! The first one is the first time we dressed her - she was 1840g, going onto the cot for the first time. The all in one is 00000 prem size and far too big!!
She hasn't had any probs since leaving hospital - apart from a UTI last month which we were admitted for a couple of days for. She has to have a renal ultrasound and dye run through to check for urine reflux but apart from that nothing at all!!! She just had her follow up appt with the neonatal pead this week and they are so pleased with her and don't expect us to have any more issues! She is also in the 90th percentile for her weight for gestation born so they were really happy with that!! We have had hearing tests and neurodevelopmental tests which have all come back clear but she will still have some more routine follow up tests this year.

Hey all, well HES OFFICIALLY DOUBLED HIS BIRTH WEIGHT!!!
At Yesterdays weigh in he was 2.275kg (he was 1.135kg at birth!)
he has gone up to 51mls of breast milk every 3 hours!
OHHH and I HAD MY FIRST GO AT BREASTFEEDING YESTERDAY! he was a champ! am going in this afternoon to have another go at it
on a down side he is still not well, they think its reflux now
He had an event when I was up there this morning he vomited when his feed was going down, and then after his feed had finished he choked and stopped breathing luckily the nurse came running over as I had no Idea what to do! (how bad is that!!! I felt stink!)
I just rang and spoke to his nurse and she is talking with a doctor about his blood results, his hemoglobin levels have dropped, not enough to warrant another transfusion but almost!
they are going to keep an eye on him as he is pale and a bit lethargic
Will update more later

That's great news about the successful BFing Trish, he'll get even bigger and stronger. My friend's little one refused to suckle and now at 14 months he'll only take his drink from a bottle, doesn't want a bar of the sippy cup!
Lets hope the Drs sort out the reflux and the op and that he will soon be able to go home

|

well they defiantly think its reflux related, but until they see he is in obvious pain they wont give him anything
They say he wont be home untill at the earliest his due date (27th Feb) however because of his lungs he could be in there a couple of weeks longer and may have to come home on oxygen

the bf was great! I went in to try yesterday but after his incident in the morning he just fell asleep straight away when we try to latch him! (I had to get the nurse to help me even do that!)
She wants me to go in today and give it another shot.. the sooner we get him started the less likely he will have to stay in!
the nurse has however told me that because of his lung problems we will have to bf and top him up with a bottle so he doesn't get too tired out!

well done little aidan (well, not so little now, what a great weight!!) Mike was born at 30 weeks and had a hernia op when he was little too.
Isn't it great when they finally let you Breastfeed and he goes well with it, some premmies (well, most) have a bit of trouble latching cos their suck is not as strong so don't get disheartened if there's times when he doesn't go so well and other times when he's a champ.. am sure you know that already.
And with the choking thing.. .. have had babies do that to me a few times and beleive me, when the nurse is running over and helping.. yep she just does it but usually later you think "wholly crap!!" the first time it happens you get a bit shell-shocked, here's hoping it doesn't happen again but if it does you'll know what to do, and the good thing is that the nurses will be watching for more episodes now that he's had that one..
I noticed in your ticker.. he has those beautiful eyes like his big brother.

yep he will get tired out really quickly, but it will all fall into place. trust me, lol. well done on him feeding for 5 mins that's great! Whe nhe does that do they cut down the amount they put down the NG tube? if so you'll find he'l stimulate more milk and wil need les and less down the tube as he gets bigger and better at sucking. one day, he just won't need the tube anymore. usually our babies pull them out a heap and maybe don't need a top-up that feed, so it doesn't get replaced.. they don't need it the next or the next and viola - no more tube.. all mum!
mums always look at me as if i am the biggest liar in the world when i tell them it will all suddenly just start falling into place and baby will "click" but it will, he'll get past that 36 weeks sleepy stage, and once he's got it sorted and gets going you'll be home in no time.
He's doing so well!

Hey all well Aidan is still recovering from his surgery! his wounds got really infected and they only did something 4 days later after I called a meeting with the consultant! who then ended up getting one of the surgeons to look at it!
anyway, 5 days later and it is still red! he is still on antibiotics so fingers crossed it heals right soon!
on an up side, I arrived there today and well you tell me lol
yep since 6am yesterday (Wednesday) so fingers crossed he is off it for good!!! (he still has the feed tube in, as per the first photo )
He got weighed today too and well... wait for it...
he is now....
3.460kg or 7lb 10oz!
thats right he has officially tripled his birth weight!
and because he is having such good weight gains they were wanting to change his formula to one that wasn't subsidised... I said one of the only reasons I agreed to change to formula was because this was will be subsidised for 6 months! well the nutritionist didn't know they had already told me I was entitled to the subsidy so it will be discussed tomorrow on there rounds!
Will let you know more later

sorry been off the comp for a bit, I did update on another site so will copy and paste it here...
22nd Feb:
well I got there today and he is back on the oxygen he lasted for about 21 hours though which is great! will update more later I'm tired
23rd Feb:
he is still on it, they have been trying to get him off it again but he is only lasting about 15 minutes now, I also rang this morning to see how he was doing and I got asked.... how would you feel him coming home in the next few days with the feeding tube in! I was like umm yeah ok she was like Ill mention it to the doctors at there rounds this morning.
I get off the phone sh*tting myself thinking ohh dear hes going to have oxygen and a feeding tube~! great especially with Bailey!!!
I get there this afternoon and I asked the nurse what the doctors said... they said no because its Friday (he didn't want to fill out any extra paper work I guess) also because he is still on oxygen so they will revue it next Friday
so will update you more later

That would be pretty scary coming home with the feeding tube! I assume they would show you how to insert one? Ashleigh would pull hers out every day!! Glad he's doing ok though and hopefully you will have him home soon
