I'm not keen on things like that. A name should be spelt the way it sounds. But that is just my opinion. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

I have had to spell my name my whole life...and i don't think till people have an unusual spelling name that they understand... it might sounds cute but it's not fun to have to spell your name 85 times a day:)

oooo that's pretty harsh. They've labelled Shane and Wayne both as terrors, that's two of my brothers' names!  As for Kyle ("always spells trouble"), that's DH's best friend's name and we have a small personality clash - so I find that kinda funny  -------------  |

I think its is probably a bit different for NZ- this is UK based so the popular Chav names probably aren't the same. I was really surprised to see Poppy and Chloe in there! They seem like such pretty girly names- not naughty ones. I must admit there are a few names in there, mainly of boys, that I had in my class growing up and they were little brats so they were already on my black list! ------------- Jen, Charlotte 7 & Kate 3

I spelt my girls name Haleigh, instead of Hayley.
I also have a friend whos daughters name is Shayna (said Sharna). My name people still don't kjnow how to spell and mines spelt the way it should be, so I think no matter what name you ahve some people are always going to spell a name wrong. I think those teachers are nasty to basically make up their mind about the child before they even get to know them. They are just being bullies. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I think it can be a little harsh too, but training to be a teacher, when i see an unusual name, you do tend to make instant judgements about them, whether or not it is conscious or what. As for the spelling, I think as long as it is obvious how to say it, no problem.
Although names are a personal thing, somethings I do find a bit ridiculous there was this woman in the Woman's Weekly who's little girl died - meningitis I thyink. Her name was V8. Now, drawing inspiration from things is okay, but inanimate objects? I mean, I like baking, but not going to name my child "cornflour" |

My Grandparents, both my aunts and my cousin are all teachers and they say that often names can be associated with "naughty" children. Its a shame but I guess most people make judgements about people from first impressions- be it their name, appearance, accent, religion, race etc. ------------- Jen, Charlotte 7 & Kate 3

No one spells my name correctly
European's spell is Roxana, roxanna, roxsana Indians spell it Rukshana, rukhshana... Come on...how hard is Roksana?? I remember the V8 article...when I lived in Zimbabwe I had a girl there called Pepper and her sister was cinammon (Sp??) ...her mum was the Art teacher at school. she obviously liked her spices! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

well my friends paretns mustve loved their Whiskey when they called him Jack Daniels lol (or it was jsut a coincidence). My mum has a friend called Shawn Lamb now those sorts of names are cruel. I feel sorry for the poor kids growing up with those types of names. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I'm Kerri-Anne and you'd think that would be easy to spell...according to article I'm a trouble maker too..and I'm also a teacher...it certainly makes naming your own kids harder:)

kaw - Dh and I are both teachers, so thats about 60 names a year that become loaded either positively or negatively. I specifically asked for a child with our boys name to be placed in another class so as not to put me off it!
I don't prejudge kids by their names (as far as I am aware), but once I have a naughty kid with a name, it is off my personal name list! Funny about Paige over there - here it always seems to belong to lovely little girls - so far...And I agree about Chloe! Only had good ones (well, one was naughty, but really funny!) -------------

| Yes the same with us and Paige.. I'm preschool at the moment(though primary trained as well) I don't pre judge either but have had several children with one name who have been challenging:) We have 6 names so far and I haven't taught any of them...phew :) |

I remember a while back there was a wee boy whose parents were fined big bucks for naming him MMM - stands for Mighty Mongrel Mob. What on earth were they thinking
I had a couple of names which I absolutely couldn't ever name a child because of bad experiences with someone of that name..... and I always name my pimples Sonia cos I was bullied for a year at High School by a girl with that name

I remember that article, was really sad.
I love the name Chloe, that was one of my top names. And without even thinking when you said your name Kerri Anne my thoughts automatically went to a stupid little tart who tried to ruin my marriage and now i cringe everytime i hear that name! |
