Okay .............. my wee man is approaching the 10 months mark and he just doesn't seem to be that keen at all on finger food, its kind of like he doesn't know what to do with it. In saying that he will put a biscuits or cracker in his mouth and eat a little bit but once he has had a bite that's the end of it. He also is more keen on pureed food and doesn't seem to like chunks or mashed.

mikey was like that too, basically i just kept offering it to him. it is important to keep putting soft chunks in his food so he gets used to dealing with it. ------------- |

Also I must add that Lachlan still doesn't have any teeth, could this affect his eating?

yes possibly, mikey got into finger food way more when he got teeth and could really gnaw at things. just make sure that any lumps in his food are really soft and he should be fine. ------------- |

He will still be able to eat but may feel a bit lazy on it (re teeth). Have you tried giving him cold cooked carrot slices? or kumara done the same way? Otherwise there are wafer biscuits, if he has a sweet... er gum  he'll enjoy those. They go soft really easy so little kids like em.-------------  |

| Kobe wasnt into finger food or any sort of lumpy food until he was over 1yr, would gag and throw up everywhere but he did grow out of it. We just kept trying him but only when we were home (not a nice party trick having him throw up at the drop of a hat) |

Alan will be 2 next month and we made the mistake of not encorageing him more with finger food and he still is not keen on it so like the other's have said offer it to him. Like carrot sticke's and stuff. Alan is a really fussy terrible eater now and alot of that is to do with giving up on chunky food etc when I should have carried on he still heat's mashed Vegeie's so you really need to keep offering it to him even if he not seen interested it does mean a little food get's wasted along the way tho. ------------- Deborah Mum to:

The fact that he might be teething might affect his eating, not the fact that he has no teeth  If he is teething then chunky foods might hurt his gums, therefore he doesn't like the sensation of it.
My Ella didn't get her first tooth until over 10 months. Ella started finger foods at 7.5 months, she loved them.. so I never bothered with the chunky/mash stage. Have you got the plunket food idea sheet for his age? It is great for ideas of what you could try feeding him. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
