Andrew loves his "abc" stroller. Its the one he sits in but he will push it around all the time. His other "fav" toy is at his friends place and its the toy vaccum cleaner.

sorry but i am more with Rod on this one...a dolls house is a little much IMHO...
the kid behind us has a stroller, a baby doll and HE takes it to church...he was given a barbie canopy bed too while his brother had a buzz one...he is teased sooo much and his only friends that come to play now are girls...and I swear he even sounds gay already...cruel to say it i know but he is six and his older brother at 8 is soooo different...i think his mum really wanted a girl and has fostered the feminine side a little too much...
I think there is a cut off...mine would be a dolls house too...nail polish, dolls, stroller in the house are ok...they are imitating mum. Sorry....

Christopher desperately wanted a baby born (remember those)when he was about Jacob's age and we let him have one. He also had a fascination with one of my sister's silk petticoats and used to wear it around the house without a nappy on - he liked the soft feel of it against his bare skin. Cute. Aaahhhh - he was such a sweet little boy. I am of the opinion that if you make a big deal out of it - it will turn in to a big deal for the kid and then they get confused. I think they are just curious at that age. We just let Christopher play with what he wanted and tried not to worry. He's fine now - no identity crisis and very comfortable with who he is. Excessively masculine probably - his fav thing to do at the moment is fart mid-sentence...

Yeah i agree Leish. As much as kobe loves girly things when you actually meet him you would never mistake him for a girly boy. He is fantastic and ball sports, rough and tumble real boy. very daring and into everything boyish but he just also likes playing with dolls sometimes. Could also be that all good friends and cousins are girls.

Also just wanted to add, it wouldnt really bother me if Kobe decided he was gay. As long as he is happy then thats enough for me but i dont think what he plays with now is going to affect his sexuality.

Does anyone think there would be a huge market for toy vacuums that ACTUALLY vacuumed? Imagine how great that would be!
Personally, I don't see the big deal letting Quinn play with toys that he likes. I don't think a dolls house is going to affect his sexuality.

Jax - I am all for nature vs nurture argument but when a child is fostered to become something they werent necessarily headed towards (fa'afaine for eg) then that isnt right...the kid next door doesnt leave it in the house, he goes out with all the girlie stuff, there are other boys around...only the girls will play with him etc...
it has nothing to do with homsexualtiy etc...but apparopriate boundaries for acceptable behaviour so that a child is not scorned - in the case next door at six he is suffering already for his mothers actions in fostering it too much...
i think Jacob is cute too, and like i said no harm in a stroller or a doll etc..but totally see where Rod is coming from with his cut off point too...

Rods cut off point is anthing remotely girly, which I disagree with. As for the dolls house, it isn't specifically for "jacob" (probably more for me), but my grandad made me a beautiful 2 story one with stairs and all the furniature, carpet, wall paper etc, and it got stolen out of our garage a few years back, and I was absolutely devestated. My brothers and I had had many, many years of fun playing with it. I was really sad that such a special toy had been so carelessly taken, and that any children I might have would miss out on what we had had so much fun with over the years. Anyhow, when Dad died, we were going through all the old photos and found lots of really great pics of the dolls house, so I have decided I am going to contact the woodworkers guild and see if some lovely grandad would like to make me one.
I don't want jacob growing up thinking that their are "girls" toys and roles and "boys" toys and roles, as I don't want him to end up a chauvanist pig like my brother. while I won't be encouraging him leaving the house in girls dress up clothes or wahtever, i am all for imaginative play. if I could see it was going a bit far, and the teasing thing might be a problem, then I owuld worry about it.

It was never my intention to start any form of debate, be it over sexuality or nature vs nurture, I was just curious as to why you said what you did Bombshell - and while I may not agree with what you've said, thank you for explaining

Yeah, my view is everything in moderation. If I had a boy, I'd be more than happy for him to have a dolls house etc but then he could have a train set and a tonka truck too!
And as far as I have observed toddlers (other friend's kids, creche kids, family members etc) at about 2/3 they all seem to go through a "nurturing" phase... boys and girls... and the boys seem to grow through it and by 5 they are onto the "girl germs" phase! Delightful! Then you have to try and stop them from ripping off dolls heads.

Andrew loves to play in the family corner at his daycare, and his carer thinks the reason for this is because I am pregnant and he wants his baby too. When Andrew was a little younger when he was at my parents place their were mostly girls toys as mum and dad had 3 girls. The only "real" boys toy was a concrete truck that my sister got when she was 2 as she loved trucks.
The vacuum cleaner that Andrew has been playing with makes the noises but doesn't pick up the dust - I would be buying one if they did work properly.

Have you tried letting her use it? Andrew was when he was a lot younger but now loves it. He (for some reason) loves it when I put it on his tummy. Different feeling I spose.

My Briona has only just got over the vacuum cleaner - and waste disposal. I didn't have as much patience with her as with Hannah (when you've got 2 kids and need to vacuum you just gotta do it!) so I plonked her on the couch and just got it over and done with as soon as I could.

Erin's not a vacuum cleaner fan either, not even the dustbuster
And I used to have a Tonka truck when I was little, it was a dump truck and lived in my sand pit !

Good excuse not to vacuum I say!!
Quinn used to be scared of the vacuum too, I used to have to vacuum with him on my hip. Not easy with a porker like him!

My niece at 4 is still afraid of the vacuum. Whenever my Mum does it she has to go to the opposite end of the house, and if you go near her with it she becomes hysterical.
I'm sure it won't last, but it's amazing she's still so freaked by that when she knows how it works what its for etc.
Oh and, she'll happily sit through the drags with Dad so not afraid of noise? Little weirdo
