Hey Teresa,
well done for being the one to start this.
I have been so obsessed with my problems BF that it's hard to look at other progress with Fay, but she smiled at me today, definitely not wind, and it was beautiful, after 6 weeks of walking through this fog I feel like she is a real person and feel more confident to try things. we came home today and she was a bit clammy so I stripped her off for some naked time, she peed on everything, so I might need to perfect my technique for padding her out, but she seemed to enjoy it, even tried her on her tummy and she has such a strong neck, she was lifting her head up and looking around, i think that's what she was doing anyway.
Mum and dad go back to UK on Tuesday so I am trying to give them as much time with her as I can, but strangely i feel oddly posessive about the number of cuddles I get too so it's hard sharing. I hope she repeats the smile for mum before she leaves - it will be hard for them, but we are planning a trip home in October to show her off to the rest of the family.
How is your wee ones Teresa and Cherie, funny how we are all girls this month

BTW Claire - I still haven't got the 'padding' thing sorted - Mercedes pooed on the playmat for the second time this week coz she keeps wriggling off the damn change mat I put under her!

Alright, have a bit more time on my hands this morning (as I rock Krystiana to sleep so I can have a shower ). Krysti was born on (last) Sunday morning and I stayed two days in hospital before coming home - the first night I got hardly any sleep so after a really settled second night I felt rested enough to come home and have three girls on my hands. Not that I've had to look after them all on my own yet - the one day DH worked, his mum came around for the morning.
Since then Krystiana has been sleeping 3+ hours at a time, she is definitely my most settled baby. She has cluster feeds at 4-5pm (tricky!) and 10-11.30pm and after 11.30 last night she went right ahead and slept for 5 hours She had her one-week check (mw) on Friday, has only lost 50g off her birth weight so I'm obviously filling her right up She's so long and skinny I'm having trouble with nappy brands either not sticky enough to cross the flaps over in front or too wide at the thigh. A bit more fat and then I'll be able to put her in Fuzzis
Your six weeks seem to have gone so fast Claire! I'm glad you've got the 6-week smiles, everything seems worth it after then

thought it was about time I did an update on Fay, might even get round to writing her birth up at some point as well.
Fay is 7 weeks old today and it seems like forever but has gone so quickly, what did I used to do all day without her?
She is putting on good amounts of weight, i think she will be passed 3.5kg when she is next weighed. As I have discussed, the breastfeeding thing did not work, I dropped that after 6 futile weeks of persevering and heart ache. she is now feeding about 50/50 on expressed milk and formula and I will keep that up for as long as i am able.
We survived her first set of immunisations yesterday, she had a really unsettled day with high tempratures, vomitting and sore legs, I was dreading last night as I was a bit sleep deprived already, so I kicked neil out into the spare bed, so that he could get soem sleep for work and she slept and fed like a dream. I had the best night (interrupted ofcourse) I have had since she came home. Regular Pamol has helped of course
What now? She is seeing a speech and language therapist to help with some of the problems with her tongue and sucking, as she still loses more milk than she gets, she doesn't seem to be able to seal around a teat with her lips and her tongue pushes the teat out of her mouth all the time.
Generally since giving up the BFing I have found a happier little girl who is smiling occaisionally but I think that refelcts the smiles she is getting from her mummy now, hard to learn to smile when her only interaction with mummy is sobbing and crying isn't it?
so that's us, glad Krysti is doing well Teresa and look forward to hearing from everyone else,
Claire and Fay

Claire, sounds like you and Fay are doing heaps better now. Don't worry about the smiles, Briona was hard work as a baby (silent reflux) and she - and I - cried basically every night for a couple of months Now she has the cutest smile and even is a bit cheeky!
Krysti is still quite a settled baby, although I'm having trouble with sleeping habits as she wants to be a tummy sleeper and I'm not sure how I feel about that. At the moment she's in our bedroom at nights and the lounge during the day, so I'm letting her choose for now. Either that or cuddle her all day so she won't wake up Will talk to mw about it tomorrow. It makes me a bit concerned about reflux, although she's not really a crier so I don't know.
The older girls have adjusted much quicker than I expected and Briona is really quite gentle with her (now to teach her gentleness with Hannah!). It's beautiful to see all the kisses Krystiana gets from both of them
I wonder how things are going with Cherie?

Yeah, I hope thngs are going well with cherie too.
Fay prefers her tummy too, often falling asleep on my chest. I tend to let her do that and transfer her to the cot on her back when she is deep asleep, but the gamble is trying to do it without waking her up, real gamble as she has no pattern for deep sleep, sometimes I can move her after 5 minutes and another time she will wake up after 30mins deep sleep when i move her.
Who said it was going to be easy eh?

That's much the same trouble I was having but she seems to be pretty confident moving her head so I've decided to let her be. (Don't tell Plunket! )
Things are going pretty well, tough time is at night. The older girls go to bed at 7 which is great, then I have some time to myself or with DH... but then Krysti likes to be awake from 10ish to 11ish. That's why I'm on here right now (one-handed of course, while feeding/cuddling). But I just sooooooo wanna go to bed!

I have strong suspicion that Fay has inherited our UK body clocks somehow. She sleeps like an angel during the day, you know, feed-play-sleep-feed-play-sleep, but as soon as it gets dark its feed-play-play-play-play-feed-play-play-play. Hopefully she won't get jetlag when we go home later this year for a trip.
She is having a real smiley day today , it is so cool. And I have her in some new outfits as she has outgrown lots of the rezlly small things we got when she came home, and a lot of it is not pink which is good for Dad's street cred.
Hope you managed a good night Teresa

Three weeks old tomorrow and Krystiana now weighs 9lb 3oz as of Wednesday, gaining about 300g/week which I am very pleased about. She's still very settled, and still likes her 8pm-11pm ish cluster feeds. I'm feeling mostly good though, have even got some baking done this week... double chocolate muffins! I get so hungry when I'm feeding lol!!
I've been able to do shopping this week and even visit the park (on a different day) with the three girls, by myself, so I'm feeling very pleased about that.
Now to see if Krystiana is finally ready for bed for tonight or if she's just doing another 10 minute rest before feeding again.

Well we are packing on the weight over here, how's everyone else's babies doing, especially in this heat? Krystiana is now 10lbs/4.5kgs as of Monday, she was growth spurting last week and boy did I notice! lol
Kels I've just put another batch of those gorgeous muffins in the oven 2 cups flour, 1 cup cocoa and 1 1/2 cups choc chips No wonder Krysti is gaining weight well
Just started slightly longer sleeps at night, the last two nights she has slept 5-6 hours from about 10pm, wakes for a feed and then sleeps past dawn. Yay!
Three weeks now and I'm aware that I'll be discharged soon... I don't wanna "lose" my midwife tho lol

Fay is 9 weeks old today and we just had a wonderful night, she seems to have dropped a feed, shame it was the 10o'clock and not the 2am one, but I have had the best night.
She's grumpyin the heat today and yesterday, but other wise doing well. But generally happy, making lots of cooing and gurgling noises.
On the weight side she is doing well but nowhere near you weights yet, she was stillunder 4kg when weighed last week, but has put on 1.5kg since she was born, so not too shabby really.
Teresa, i was sad when my midwife discharged us, felt like saying goodbye to a friend really

He's so gawjuss, smiles and talks soooo much , and seems to love watching the movements and colours on the tv (lets hope this doesnt become a habit later on lol). He's just under 7kgs and is measuring 62cm in length. Just love being with him

Well Krystiana is a spotty but healthy 5.22kg (11lb 8oz) and 58.5cm long, both about average for a 10 week old lol - hungry bubba! She has some sticky eye (and Briona has a dribbly nose), but hopefully that doesn't hang around too long.
I think I've almost sorted the Fuzzibunz on her; we tried our first night last night with no leaks and even though she was leaking all the time recently (disposables and clothies alike), the combination of her getting a bit chubby and me putting the nappies on better (higher up her legs) seems to have resolved that. yay!
Krysti has been a bit unsettled right before bed at night, it seems that she hits overtired but still wants to feed. Last night I wrapped her and put her to bed awake and that surprisingly seemed to settle her for a while, then quick feed and asleep. So I'll see how the next couple of nights go. I'm definitely noticing my confidence grow.

Well you weren't too far off with the weight good guess. We have the MW coming around today to do the heal prick test. I couldn't stay in the room when Andrew had his done - was at the hospital and the room was very hot I nearly fainted - but this time DH is here and he can hold him if needed. We are having trouble with getting wind up sometimes so we are going to talk about getting stuff for that and he loves to suck so we are going to invest in a dummy for him, even thou he has found his fingers they don't stay in there. Last night I caved and washed the dummy Andrew used twice when he was a newborn and put that in Josh's mouth and he loved it. I wrapped him up and put him back to bed and got a good few hours sleep.

Have any of you mums started the slow 'natural' weight-loss post baby (ie without making it happen)? After my first two babies my weight kinda fell off, it actually was quite worrying. This time my weight hasn't changed since Krystiana was a week old to now, I'm guessing that's probably normal but I eye up all my old smaller clothes and I guess I'm a bit impatient. I suspect keeping my energy up between dinner and bedtime (with various batches of baking lol), and then broken sleep, is probably not helping either.
Does it all sound "normal" to you? I guess the stories about how hard it is to shift the weight with every subsequent pregnancy are scaring me a bit too

I never got weighed during this pregnancy (althou I should of during the last few weeks because of the pre eclampcia but I didn't). I could guess how much weight I put on but it would be a huge guess. I know that once Joshua was born I instantly lost about 8kgs with him being just over 4kgs, the placenta at a massive 2kgs and all the blood and stuff at about 2kgs as well. I'm tracking my weight loss now (at my parents place so I can't do it all the time) to see how much i'm losing. Last time I checked (Wednesday) I had lost another 5kgs. But bear in mind I was big to start with (don't even know how much it was when I got pregnant) so all weight loss for me is good. Also I had BF problems with Andrew and now this time havin no problems i'm noticing that weight is coming off fast.

Krystiana is 7 months, had her 6 week GP check and imms yesterday (all is fine except maybe a weak neck - or was that just tiredness combined with long body said the doc) and I'm about to put her to bed so I can have my well-deserved beauty sleep! Joshua just had another blood test poor little boy. Since birth he has been a little yellow and as he wasfeeding good and having good sleep/awake periods we didn't see any point of doing the test. However today the MW came around and to be on the safe side we have taken some blood to have his billirubin count taken. My MW did think that his colouring may have to do with the Maori in me but as i'm a few generations back it wouldn't be that noticible on Joshua. So hopefully his count isn't too high and we don't have to spend a night in hospital (the last thing I want or need) for him to be under the lights. He hasn't gained all that much weight in a month - he was born 9lb 4 and is now 10lb 2 but still any weight gain is good.

My bub struggled with jaundice at the begining and had to have 3 treatments under the lights - we stayed at hospital for 11 days! Is he feeding OK? Does he seem quite sleepy? Try putting him next to a window to soak up some sunshine (if you haven't already). Hope it works OK for you Becks and you don't have to go to the hospital.

Yeah he feeds really well and puts up a good fight to go to sleep and hes been sunbathing . He's not showing the classic jaundice signs (other than his yellow eyes and tummy) which is kinda annoying. I"m hoping that he is fine and that the test comes back in the normal range. If it does then my MW said that we will probably go and see a pead to get his liver checked out. I had to go back into hospital with Andrew as he got jaundice quite bad and needed a day under the lights. Haven't heard anything yet so hopefully its all ok.

Awww so cute! I love how little babies have that really "pleasant" look even though they can't yet smile.
Becks, he may be a little on the jaundiced side because he was early? So hopefully his liver will "catch up" soon.

Gina is so cute. Andrew was early as well and that was one of the reasons for him getting jaundice The others - noone told me to wake my baby up to feed him and the day he was born he slept for 8 hours straight (also contributed to feeding issues). Joshua was nearly 2 weeks early according to the hospital dates (but I never believed their dates) so that could be why. My MW did think that his colouring also maybe the Maori in him but thats a number of generations back so who knows.
I have the mega craving for licorice. My mum has got at her school 1kg bags of alsorts off cuts for $3 a bag and I have eaten my way through 1 bag in 2 days (with the help of DH) i'm getting another bag tonight. Funny thing is i've never been fan of licorice so DH is finding it weird. Its a bit like eggs couldn't stand them until after I had Andrew and now I love them.

Hi guys
I thought it was about time I caught up with you, nice to see there is more of us now as well.
Fay is good, she is growing well (doubled her birth wieight this week at 5200g). Still feeding via a bottle but a combination of formula at night and breast milk during the night. She holds her head upw ell and is very vocal and has the most heartmelting smile. Oh and the cutest chuckle. We have solved the sleeping issues and she is much more settled since mobving her into her cot and own room, she sleeps through between feedsa t night and I am finally having some success in getting her to sleep in her bed during the day. Yay
I am finally beginning to feel as if I am enjoying motherhood. I had a huge crash emotionally about 6 weeks ago and have been treated for Post natal depression. I started some meds about 3 weeks ago and finally feel as if the Claire I know is slowly coming back to me and I recognise myself now. It's been a tough first few months but I hope that Fay is going to get a better few months coming up
so that's me updated. Hope everyone is well, Becks I hope those blood results come good for Joshua

Hi Claire, I was just thinking of you yesterday. I'm glad things are looking up for you. Fay's early arrival and associated difficulties were quite a shock so no wonder you got PND after all that!
Krystiana's not all that well today (there's another thread "sore ears?" but actually her ears are fine) but things are otherwise going well with her and she's a very settled baby. My cleaner started today (2 hours a week) so that's helping me settle back a bit and enjoy motherhood a bit more! No more scrubbing loos for me!

Well we slept almost through the night last night!!!!! Josh went to bed at 11pm and didn't wake up till 5.45am. I was stocked but I did get up as I needed a toilet stop but it wasn't like I was awake for long. I think i'm going to continue expressing off small amounts for him to have at night so he has a full tummy to go to bed with.

Gina did the same thing! Fed at 11:30pm and did not wake up until almost 6am! I was told off by the Plunket nurse for it today - supposedly she HAS to eat every 4 hours Ooops

Nope, I did last night as I had some milk and he was still hungry after having both sides so I gave him an extra 50mls and he was out like a light. It was great.
If Gina wants to sleep that long its fine. I hate it when plunket tell me he should be doing this or that. If they want to sleep they will and sleep that long through the night is good for mum .

On month after Charlotte was born and she's the same weight Josh was born!!!!
I'm looking forward to meeting our new plunket nurse. I made sure it wasn't the same one we had last time as she treated me like a young mum who didn't know what she was doing and a bad young mum for having to feed her baby formula. She didn't even read the notes my MW had sent to her explaining the reason for formula feeding - I was so angry at her. Only ended up seeing her until Andrew was 3 months old (so only 3 visits) and then I took him to the family centre.

What's your plunket nurse's name Becks?
Krystiana is finally not coughing so we're all well again!! Phew. I'm finding that her cluster feeding at nights has really settled down now and I can often get her off to sleep by wrapping her and placing her in the cot when she's tired. That's been mucked up a bit this week with being sick, but I have my fingers crossed for getting that back!
Her night times are down by 10pm, feed about 4.30am and then up again at 8.30am. Nice!

Don't know the new plunket nurses name as my MW hasn't sent to forms off to them yet. The one I had before with Andrew i'll PM you that info.
Fingers crossed she is all better now. Andrew has a cough and so far noone else has picked it up. He loves having his special medicine (vicks baby rub) put on him at night to help with the breathing.
Josh is down between 10 and 11pm up for a feed between 4 and 5am and then up again after 8.30am. It is a bit of a pain as Andrew is booked in for preschool at 8am and I don't usually get him there till after 9am which means he misses out on a little bit. I'm going to try and change Josh to wake at 7am which means I would be able to Andrew off to preschool at around 8am.

I got a 7 hour sleep last night!!!! It would of been longer if Josh had his way but when I woke up I had pain in my boobs so I had to get him up. The bottle of my milk at night is working a treat here. His SBR(or is it SRB) (jaundice test) came back within the normal range so we aren't sure whats up with him. The whites of his eyes are still a little yellow and he is still quite olive. It would be that he is going to get my olive colouring that I had as a baby but the whites of his eyes aren't quite right. Hopefully someone will work out whats up there.

Welcome Tania! The pictures under your posts are "tickers" and you can get free ones online. Click on one that you like and it will link you to a ticker site. The other pics are called Avatars, they are in your profile but you'll need to upload the pic from your computer to a host such as http://www.photobucket.co.nz - photobucket first.

Just want to have a wee skite. Am feeling like a million bux today, am going to try on wedding dresses this morning cos I feel so good. My girl is a great sleeper anyhow, but I just have problems settling her down after a feed. (its my boy thats a rat sh!te sleeper) anyhow, I heard her snuffling about at 5am after I had got up to Jacob, so I crept in, she wasn't awake, but had shuffled up against side of bassinette, so I shifted her, and went back to bed AND she continued sleeping till 6.45am!!!!!!! She usually does the snufflke thing around the same time every morning, and I just get her up and feed her, waking her, then she won't go back down. She is usually crammed against side of bassinette (she won't wear her safety sleep) so that might be my prob! she not ready for feed!!!

Awww Lara is a cutie! But is that brown eyes at birth??
Have fun with the wedding dress try-ons Annie What fun!
Krystiana is sleeping really good at nights now that the worst over her cold is finally over... for the second time??... night before last she slept 4 hours then 6, and last night she slept from 10.30 to 8am I'm just hoping it happens again cause I can't help thinking did she really sleep that long or was I so tired I don't remember getting up for a feed?

I've got a good night sleeper as well. OUr plan is for a good nights sleep is Josh having a bath (he doesn't need a bath every night but its his way of relaxing so he can have one), right side of me. Bottle of EBM with daddy. Wrapped up for bed. Left side of me and then bed. He slept last night from 10pm till 5am. I am happy for him still to have a feed during the night as it means I am able to get Andrew up to go to the toilet. Got Josh weighed yesterday (went to see my MW I had during my pregnancy as she rang me to come and see her) 10lb 8oz (still smaller than a friends baby at birth) and 56cm long.

I am really hating the weather at the moment. It goes from hot to cold so fast and each day is different. I had to go out today and get Josh some 000 summer clothes (just 2 little romper suits short arms and legs) just so he can be happy with some clothes on. I was naughty and just got more licorice from my mum

Becks when you have Plunket visits you should leave baby asleep until they arrive - in case they are late. I found that out the hard way
