Subject: Labour starting in the back???
Date Posted: 17 January 2007 at 11:57am

I've been getting a sore back in the same place every 20 minutes or so and its really annoying. My friend came around and told me her labour started in the back and thinks mine could be starting now. Anyone else had this? If you did how long did it go on for?

My mum told me that when she had me she didn't really get contractions, she just had a sore back for two days.

Good luck!!

oooh, exciting! when i went into labour, it started as a sore back like what you're describing. mikey was posterior and apparently that's why i had such bad pains in my back.
sounds promising though, good luck!

I had the same as Ella when I was starting labour with my daughter. She was also posterior.
If you think there is a chance your bub could be posterior I'd suggest getting down on all 4's and rocking. Good for the pain and great for helping bub turn.
All the best!

I hope he's not posterier (i'm pretty sure its his bum and back I can feel), but the pain is getting worse as the day goes on and nothing is helping. I could do the heat pack but i'm too hot. I might try the "down on all 4's just to see if it helps. I've got a swiss ball somewhere too.

My physio said her labour started exactly the way you're describing, and I second / third / fourth the down on all fours or swiss ball thing.... good luck !!

Me too, until the actualy pushing my pain was all in my back. I 100% recommend those elastoplast heat things for this sort of labour pain. I used it this time round and it was fantastic, just the right amount of heat and they stick to your back like a band aid so you can walk around like normal and one pad lasts for 8 hours! Good luck!

Would an ice pack help? Is bub on your left or right side?

In the middle being a pain in the butt. I tried a bath and that made them worse so i'm going to try a heat pack soon and if nothing something cold on it. Its going through to my tummy now so who knows what he is doing in there or whats going on in there.

Just thought to add, when it is in my back i dont feel it like contractions, more like period pain. I had this for 3 days with kobe and didnt realise but was actually dilating.
Sounds a bit like something might be happening though.

Becks when I was in labour my mw was asking where the pain was and at one point I said "in the front, it's not hurting in my back anymore" and she said that's good, it means baby is in the right place. Sounds promising for you

Its getting to become a constant pain that is always there and really just annoying . Every 20-30 minutes I get a little period of real pain that stays for about 30 seconds. I see my MW tomorrow so i'm going to get her to check me out to see if anything is happening. I really hope something is just to know that the annoying pain will be over with soonish. I'm getting the period pain feeling in my tummy every 30 or so minutes as well.

I saw my MW today and she thinks I may have pulled the muscles along my back. She did say that it is possible that I could be starting labour and its going to be a long one but the pain has gone away this afternoon. She doesn't think i'll make it to the end of the month (which is a good thing) so hopefully something might happen. He's not posterior (she had a good feel) but is def engaged (and I can feel that on my bladder ) so hopefully in the next 2 weeks hes out of there.

were you early with andrew? not wanting to bring you down but i had LOTS of early niggles and pains from 35wks and was thinking charli would arrive early. my MW told me i didn't need to worry about being induced as charli would be 'on time'......8days overdue she finally came out
here's hoping you are holding bubs in 2wks

I'm thinking its just false stuff that is going to contiune for a little while. MW is a little concerned with the swelling thou so maybe I can get an eviction notice for this child. The back pain is still hanging around. I've spent most of today in bed . The resting is good for the swelling but I still feel so tired.

I hope you feel better soon.
With Haleigh I started getitng all my labour pains like strong back ache and sick feeling over a week before she actually arrived. then I jsut had sore back which I relieved by rocking on all fours, cleaning my kitchen floor on hands and knees (I became a clean freak at that stage), and bed rest (DF confined me to bed a few imes) then I got really badly swollen feet the night before my waters broke, they were so bad I couldnt walk ti was horrible.

OMG busymum I see there on your ticker your girls 6 days already wow thats gone by quick.
