I guess we already knew that the twins have inherited Maya's allergies given that they couldn't tolerate breastmilk and have exczema, but now it's a sure thing, Mercedes had her first allergic reaction yesterday

They were both lying on the floor and when I went to pick Mercedes up her mouth was covered in hives. I'm not entirely sure what caused it, she had wriggled right up and was sucking Sienna's head so I guess it could be the stuff I put on them for their exczema (contains wheatgerm) but I doubt it coz otherwise it would make their exczema worse right? So more likely it is a lesson to me to wsh my hands more thoroughly when I am making up bottles and to have a peanut free house as I had some rocky road with peanuts in it, then washed my hands and dried them then madeup their bottles.Maybe there were still traces of peanut oil on my hands?

Either way, it wasn't very nice! My poor bubby! They are seeing the allergy paed on 13 Feb so hopefully she will have some ideas and answers for us.

dont panic too much emma, if they were lying on the floor it could have been anything....incl bites or dust irritants or maybe she is allergic to her sister...

Breastfeeding didn't work for us Even when I was dairy free and egg free the girls were a screaming mess and sick all the time. Switched to Neocate and all of a sudden these smiley happy babies emerged from under all the screaming.

They can't cope with much in teh way of lotions and potions but I have found this Aussie brand that they do cope with that is all essential oils and natural stuff and theys eem to be OK with Huggies Extra sesitive wipes.

Oh no so young! Hope you find out what it is- I read an article that said that only certain antiseptic soaps will get rid of allergen traces so it could well still be the peanut.
We are completely peanut free at home but obviously most other places we go aren't- the article also said that dish detergent doesn't get rid of the traces so when my Mum was being all pedantic and washing everything after her peanut butter toast it still wasn't getting rid of it!

Hope the Specialist has some answers for you...

Emma!
IMO if there were hives on/in her mouth it would definitely be something that she has eaten. Well that would be my assumption anyways. Hope that your teh bubbah is feeling better soon!

That's no good about Mercedes Emma. But I do remember Lachlan coming up in hives around his mouth when he decided he wanted to taste one of the cats - so it could just be dust mites etc.

All the best allergy paed.

LOL at Lachlan tasting the cat!

Yep, counting down now, altho to be honest at this stage they are too young to have accurate testing done (they tested Mercedes at 3 weeks but up until 12 mths results aren't that accurate). It will be good to throw some ideas around tho, and have a chat about starting solids and what's the best way to handle it to minimise the risk. She's a great specialist, was Maya's specialist when she was younger so I have complete faith in her.
