Hiya,

Jaxon is 5 months and introduced him to solids about 2 weeks ago. He liked it but was not a happy boy after. Grizzling heaps. I was thinking he had a sore tummy so I stopped giving solids to him for now. I Just have a feling hes not quite ready. Plunket nurse says he needs it now cos of iron???

Will it matter to wait a little longer??

Current recommendations are to wait until 6 months anyway. He should still be getting all he needs from his milk feeds.

Nope if he doesn't want them don't force him. As Paws said 6 months is the time when they should start. He will still be getting heaps from him formula or breastmilk whichever you are doing (sorry I can't remember).

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Yea that's weird because Plunket are the ones preaching to wait for 6 months!!! When you reintroduce them you might like to try a different food too. I always start on stewed apple.

I second the trying something different next time you start him again, Erin wouldn't have a bar of the rice cereal... and I can understand that, ugh ! So bland ! Stewed apple (pureed) went down a treat, as did pears.

I read that they have enough iron stores to last them until 6 months too (unless things are different for Jaxon?).
Try him on the fruits and sweeter stuff and just make sure it's quite watery as they've only ever known fluids in their mouth.

He'll let you know when he's ready Kels so try not to worry about it too much

I recently started a thread about Alyssa having a sore tummy from solids as well:

Since I switched her to normal jar baby food instead of Farex rice cereal she has been absolutely fine with no sore tummy!!
