Zac has a bottle at 3:00 pm and one before he goes to bed. Everything I have read says I should be giving him milk in a cup now. He has his water in one of those water bottles with a straw and he will drink milk in a cup but just a little bit, as he would rather have his water.

Any tips on getting him to have his two bottles not in a bottle?

Will he drink out of "Mummy's glass"?
Does he just want water in a cup at 3pm instead of milk at all?
I'm not sure about the night one, I wewaned Briona off a bottle very young when she discovered her teeth

Maybe you could get him a 'special' cup to have his bottle in? One that he only has those feeds from that is different to his water cup I mean.

The only reason I give him a 3:00 pm bottle is so that I know he gets the recommended 350ml of milk per day.

I haven't been trying very hard to give his milk in a cup so will start trying again.

Thanks for your replies.

We still use a bottle and Alex is 13 months....he uses the sipper cup for drinks in between. Don't see a problem with the bottle. Alex is still having three bottles - 7.00am, 1.00pm, 6.00pm...should we be cutting it down?

I'm pretty sure at 13 months that food is now the most important thing and they only need 350 ml of milk per day. That doesn't have to be all milk - it can be yoghurt, cheese etc.

We threw out the bottles when Haleigh was 11/ 12 months.
But she was drinking water from a cup at 4months (As she wouldnt drink it in a bottle) and I was told to start getting ehr to drink milk in a cup. I eased her into it by switching ehr lunch milk to a cup and just morning and night feed in bottle, then I changed her morning and lunch milk in a cup then I finalyl did all 3 milks in a cup. She actually adapted pretty well to it.
Haleihg only has 2 cups (400ml) cows milk a day now. and about 200 - 400ml water a day, she prefers water to milk but still likes a milk in the morning and milk at night, she's been like that since she was 13months and is now 16months.
After 12months food should be the main diet as too much milk can stop them from eating a well balanced diet (well tats what plunket told me)

I don't think you need to worry too much about the bottle yet, as long as he doesn't fall asleep with it in bed or anything. I weaned Ella from the breast at 13.5 months and onto a bottle, tried a cup but she wasn't happy.. plus it meant that dad could have some bonding time with her. One day when she had a tummy bug @ 20 months, she decided she didn't want her bottle that night, and the next night I didn't offer it. We had no problems with taking it away.

DH gives him his night bottle as that is their time together after bath time. I think I will try and drop the 3:00pm bottle and work on dropping the night bottle slowly as I think DH will miss that time together.
