Did you feel like you needed to replace the baby stuff that was kind of gender oriented for the new baby? Or were you happy for your baby boy to wear a little pink and sleep on frilly sheets? (or your girl to wear lots of blue with diggers and sleep on Thomas sheets?)
I told hubby last night I wanted to get some new sheets as I didn't think Ben needed to sleep on pretty butterflies and he really surprised me by saying it didn't matter! I don't really care what he sleeps on but I thought hubby would for sure! Just wondering how much it matters to other people? ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

Well, for me it's a lot easier to say that I don't mind if Han wears diggers and tractors and sleeps on sail boat sheets... I think for some strange reason (damn pressure from society) that it is different for boys. But in saying that, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't care either. Maybe I'd draw the line in taking my boy out to town in a pink lacey dress... but everything else I'm open to!

I have a boy and then a girl and she slept in blue sheets etc , I will keep some of the uni sex shoes etc but it's so much fun shopping for girls -------------

I only have a girl but as we thought we were having a boy we were given HEAPS of blue stuff. I personally don't like putting little babies in the "wrong" colour, it's bad enough when people ask your pink clad daughter if she's a boy or a girl

well after having a girl this time not the boy we were 100% sure we were having, i've been buying up a storm of girls stuff! 
i've bought most of her clothes off trademe and sold alot of jack's stuff to pay for it. i don't mind charli sleeping on blue sheets and she has a couple of jack's blue blankets but i've mostly replaced everything as yes, shopping is fun! hehe jack's room was painted in a cool lime green colour with a border just before he was born and now charli is in that room......i've repainted it lavender last weekend and bought girly 'stuff' to decorate it
so in basically, while it didn't really matter if charli had blue stuff, it was alot of fun getting her pink stuff and it would be just as much fun the other way round like with ella and benjy ------------- http://www.alternatickers.com">

I have a friend who gives me all of her little boys cot sheets, bumpers and toys. She also gave me lots of white baby clothes that had the blue Peter Rabbit insignia on them.
I was just grateful that I was getting given stuff! I don't think it will matter to Olivia, she spends most of her days playing in pink outfits. I am sure it wont scar her to sleep on blue, yellow and red Winnie the Pooh sheet sets! ------------- DD1 May 2006 DD2 March 2011 DD3 August 2012 |

| Funny but Im happy for Addison to have some boy stuff of Kobes like sheets, blankets etc... but would probably get new stuff if i had of had a girl then a boy which my friend has just done. Not sure why though but then with Kobe we went very boyish, cars, trucks blue everything and with addison Ive gone very girly, pink, butterflies, princess stuff and all that. |

There is just the age old trend that boys are in blue and girls are in pink. I think the big reason I would keep to the blue-boy/pink-girl is because I would get sick of people saying "what a beautiful boy (girl wearing blue) you have" and my having to reply "thanks my daugther is beautiful isn't she."

Just before Joshie was born my SIL offered to lend us a gorgeous wee outfit for him to come home in. It was a Dimples outfit, it was white and had little pink roses sewn on the hat, the booties and the front of the suit. We knew that Joshie was a boy, so I said thanks, but I don't really want to put him in an obviously girly outfit, and her comment was "oh, you're not one of THOSE mothers are you? get over it!!!!" I was a bit taken aback I have to say! I loved the outfit, but didn't want my baby boy dressed in it!! Personal preference for me is that my little boy dresses like a little boy (regardless of what he may want to dress like when he grows up )

Its funny isn't it? I didn't think I minded that much one way or the other but I do find myself conforming to the stereotypes for boys and girls.
I'm quite happy to leave the butterfly sheets on if DH doesn't care but I won't be dressing him in the pretty hand me downs from big sis! When he gets older he can decide whether he wants them or not ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

When my son was born we bought him a cute little blue jersey that had "Baby Boy" in big letters on the front and Bay obviously didnt look like a girl! (he looked more like a grumpy old 70 yr old man!!!) yet i was still asked if he was a girl or a boy!!!! which made me very 'boys wear blue, cars, obvious boys clothes' and 'girls wear pink, frilly, butterflies' but thats just from personal experience. Plus if this next bubs is a girl then i may go a little nutty with the pinkys!! .
My SIL had a girl first then a boy and was given alot of boys stuff for her girl in which she put her in with pride then when her son was born she put him in the pink stuff at home and blue to go out but in saying that - she has no problem if he goes out in pink socks and shoes now (hes 2), she had a girl 3rd and will only dress her in pink (maybe the last kid syndrom). |
