Hi all, my names Melissa and my partner and I have a 15 week old son named Harrison (Harri). Was waiting for the bus in the pouring rain. Bus driver at first refused to get out of the bus to hook the pram on (he said that he didn't want to get wet) but eventually he did. Wasn't too pleasant to me at all - he told Harri to shut up as the wee guy was crying ( Harrison has Gastro Intestinal Reflux) which made me even more upset - actually, I was crying at this stage. Pushed the bell when we neared our stop, and the driver went right past it and stopped at the next stop - further away from home. He refused to get out again to get the pram down, so a fellow passenger retrieved it for me. This kind lady offered to buckle Harri into his pram while I loaded it up with hos bag and everything else I was carrying-only she missed one of the harness points. Harri fell out onto the concrete, grazing his head and getting a few bumps and bruises.

Both my mother and I phoned and laid a complaint to the bus company about the driver, only to be told that the drivers are not obligated to hook up the prams to the bus. What was I supposed to do, put my son on the ground so I could sort the pram out!?!? Anyways, Harri has been given a going over by our doctor, he'll be fine, and I recieved a phone call from the bus company. Seems we weren't the only ones that complained - the driver was approached by his boss and questioned, and he offered his boss his resignation! Sometimes it pays to complain, I only though 'What if Harri had not of been so lucky'. I'll never forget the moment I looked down and saw his little legs poking out from under his pram - uuuggghhh - not a nice feeling at all!

bummer - even if the bus driver wasnt obligated to help with the pram he had no right to tell your child to shut up - so good on you for complaining...

Yep, I've only been helped with the pram once by a bus driver. Once I tried taking my big pram on the bus, luckily I had my friend to help me with it as the bus driver didn't lift a finger. I'm so glad I got my licence, even if parking is a bugger!
Sorry for your experience!

That is terrible! You should go on Wellington trains - they are lovely - and if they aren't, my father is a manager there and they get in trouble. hehehe. Where do you live?

hey guys, we live in Dunedin. Both my mum and I telephoned the bus company, only to be told that it is up to the drivers discretion as to whether the hook the pram onto the bus-in other words, if they don't feel like it, they don't have to. I wonder how they feel when the Otago Daily Times gets a letter in the mail about this-I can't be the only mum/dad in Dunners that this has happened to!

Good for you, and yes write to the papers and embarrass the company. Should sort out their customer service with a bit of negative publicity
How is harri?

Harris' not too bad - got a huge graze on his head, few bumps but is still his usual happy, chatty, smiley self. My little trooper!

FAR OUT! What a *inserts lots of swear words* I don't care if it's not company policy to help with prams, just out of decency he should of helped!
I would definitely write to the local paper. That is just soooooo wrong!
Harri sounds like such a special guy after a nasty fall and to still keep smiling You must be doing a great job Melissa!
Personally, I would never get on a bus here in Auckland the drivers tend to forget they've got 20 other people to look after as they dart in and out of the traffic like they're in their own car! Adults get thrown about all over the place so because there are no restaints for children I'm gonna have to be a total Jaffa and stick with the car!

Not to mention the fact that Auckland buses are either late or don't turn up - and if it is anything near rush hour then you wouldn't be able to get on many of them unless you are at the initial stop!
