I have read the books on sleep, tired signs, routine etc. But my 7 week old is on constant tired sign land...for those who have begun a routine did you focus on the routine and ignore tired signs for the first time? I thought we coudl catch up on sleep and his awake time woudl extend but he is tired after being up for 10 mins and finished feeding, but often lies in his cot awake, wakes up mid sleep or other so we are never catching up. I wonder now if I shoudl go to a longer up time after feeding regardless of signs so he gets into a better patten. Advice desperately needed as at the moment its just 'feed' then try to get him to sleep which equals all stress no joy!

I'm pretty sure my wee man was only up for an hour at a time at that stage and that included feeding, changing nappy a bit of tummy time and cuddles and then I would feed the other side and he would pretty much fall asleep on me.

Have you tried patting your bubs back to sleep?

My two were similar. I was despairing because they would get up, feed, I'd put them on the playmat and within 10 minutes they'd be crying and showing tired signs and so they were only ever up half an hour max at a time. Then they'd wake after a short sleep and not resettle.

I wish I had a solution for you but with us it was just a time thing. All of a sudden around 10 weeks they started wanting to be awake now, and now at 16 weeks they are awake for up to an hour and a half.

I think the problem when they're really small is that they don't know what to do with themselves when they're awake, but as they get older and start becoming more aware of their environment they are happier to be awake and playing.

Thanks a lot for the replies. forgot to mention it takes him about 15m max to feed which doesn't help! Sounds similar to what you describe Emma so i have some hope...today he slept for hours as was so tired so its a bit of a 'binge-fast' cycle he is in poor wee thing.

thanks again.
