Ok so specialist just rang and said urine tests ok except for showing I am now a strep b carrier...(i think my pregnancy is trying to cover the entire realm of pregnancy related ailments!!!!)

anyways - he said he will give me prescription for cefaclor now and then treat me with antibiotics during labour...great when im allergic to penicillin huh? so we have to be careful with what they use too...

So I know busy mum and someone else had this...anyone else knwo what if anything i should be doing? I had noticed some discharge but had been same all way through pregnancy....apparently the good news is that it isnt a full on UTI (at moment)...????

Roll on 18th march OR SOONER!!!!

I just had this Bombshell and there's nothing you can do about it. The good news is that it comes and goes so even though I've had it this pg I didn't have it with the other two and won't necessarily get it again.

My waters started leaking so I was given antibiotics in pill form until I was admitted the next day, in labour. At that point they gave me antibiotics via IV but I wouldn't have a clue which type since I have no allergies.

Before the birth I had another swab to check if I still had strep B (we went off the 36wk test) and when Krystiana was born, they took a swab sample from her ear to check if she had collected any on the way out or something. The results came back a few days later: positive for me and negative for Krysti. They monitored her breathing and pulses 4? hourly for the first 24 hours and that was it. Basically the conclusion is that she had no problems from my strep B.

Hope that helps calm the storm a bit

Oh... and I have textbook pg's and strange births so hopefully yours goes the other way

i knew i had strep b b4 i was pregnant from a smear test...and the doctor said there was nothing they could do about it...that most females have it they just never know about it.

so when i went into labour i had a drip put in and 2 lots of antibotics were given and that was that...no problems at all.

Ain't it fun being allergic to penicillin - start praying now that you don't get mastitis coz penicillin is just about the only thing that works for it which is a bugger when you can't have it

I'm liking Busymum's theory - I'm the complete opposite - have absolute shocker pregnancies and great births so hope that works for you too!

yeah my current theory is that after this pregnancy bubs will arrive in an hour and i will grunt once and she will slip out....
Hey its My theory and Im stickin to it!!! LMAO!!!

DHs theory - for thinking worst case scenario too often i will be punished and will go two weeks overdue!!!
OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

worst thing about being allergic to penicillen is noone beleives you really "still" are...and wants to try it on you....im not prepared to die to prove myself right!!!

Yep - I had 9 days (yes 9 whole days!) in National Womens with mastitis and I was just about climbing the walls and every doctor that came to see me said "what a shame you can't have penicillin, I wonder if we should try it and see how you go?"

Yeah sure, go on - kill me!

Erythromycin does work, it just takes longer so don't leave it as long as me to see your midwife

I have jsut had swaps and urine tests (funny that being in hospital and all) and my strep B has dissapeared. It comes and goes so they may get you to do swabs and urine again at 36 weeks to test for it again. If it shows up then thats when they go down the IV line during labour and birth.

Hmmm but they probably won't do yours again now Bombshell unless there is a problem in the next 6 weeks.
