Is there anything else I need to do for Krysti besides
*feeding on demand
*dressing light
*cold cloth body wipe-down

bearing in mind that she's only 3 1/2 weeks? Is cooled boiled water for older babies?

Not much you haven't mentioned already but http://www.ohbaby.co.nz/article.aspx?ContentID=588 - Tips for Summer Newborns

I've been giving the gremlins cool boiled water since about 10 weeks, but only because they are formula fed. If Krysti is breast fed then she should be fine, just offer more frequent feeds so that she gets more of the hydrating foremilk.

It's just so awful hearing my usually settled baby grizzling and there's nothing I can do Just bathed her and she's sweating already. She keeps waking when she goes to sleep

Yes busymum its awful this heat on our small bubs. Alize was up every hour last night, hot, grizzling and down right uncomfortable. I just sat and done the whole cool flannel thing. I stared offering him cooled boiled water when he was 4wks as was trying to encourage the gavigon out of a bottle thing. Ems newborns in summer read was good too

Rhyley been restless this afternoon, and tonight he wanted to cuddle into me but we were both too hot and so got grizzly. Its hard cause he won't sleep if not wrapped and if wrapped hes too hot. Its still 27 degrees in our house (we have an HRV so we know temp)

I am pleased to report that Krystiana slept very well after 11pm. Until then she was rather unsettled and wanted cuddling the whole time like Rhyley - ugh! Hopefully it rains before 4pm today

Make sure you are drinking an absolute crap load of water too Isn't feeding in summer the worst? I remember feeling so sorry for Han that she had to snuggle up to a hot sweaty mummy when she was already hot and sweaty herself!

Absolutely! But at least I can peel her off when I get too hot... gee I'm so glad she was born in time for this week

i dont know which is worse - bubs here and suffering or mums to be(like me)suffering in this heat...it is stifling out there....and so i still sit in my 18 degrees antartic office as it is referred to around here.

i have decided it is so much easier to keep babies warm when it is cold than it is to keep them cool when it is hot! poor jordis gets 4 seasons in one day down here, and her silly mummy never keeps up. thankfully it is nowhere near as hot as most of you are having, so cuddles and feeding in the heat isnt a problem.

Hmmm but I prefer summer bubbies because they don't get sniffles so easily in the first two months.

Jack was born the same time as Krysti last year and to be honest i can't remember a lot just feed on demand I used to just have jack in a singlet and nappy but he was wrapped for sleeps as well. We were lucky and had a really cool house (but freezing in the winter). Summer babies are great Jack never got sick.

I would have to say Bombshell that being pregnant in summer sucks more than a summer newborn - like Teresa said, you can peel a baby off you. I really feel for you preg ladies atm coz I haven't forgotten what it was like being preg with Maya...

For the week or two after Krysti was born everyone kept saying how hot it was and I wasn't uncomfortably hot like them... just made me aware how much hotter I had been as pregnant
