Grrr. Went away to Whakatane for a family get together this weekend (our first big one with Mya) and i got so annoyed at a couple of family members, namily my dad and sister, who completly disrespected me as a parent and got mad at me when i told them not to do certain things with Mya (like distracting her when feeding, or trying to feed her at wrong times) I dont see them much as they live far away and we dont get on terribly well and they both are very opinionated people) and it just made them angry when i tried correcting them. it was only a couple of times over the weekend and it certainly didnt ruin the weekend but dammit it annoyed the bejesus outa me!!
ok rant over

You have every right to be peeeved, as in another post similar - your baby, your responsibility to make choices for them at the moment, some people just think its a big joke to distract a child while mum is trying vv hard to feed and keep routien. You have to do what works for you as you are the one dealing with you child/ren all of the time, others can come and go as they please. It may have been a different situation if you saw them more often or had a better relationship with them. Never mind so long as you had a good time the rest of your trip

I don't blame you at all. when it comes to babies, it seems everyone has an opinion and those who feel necessary to not only share theirs but insist it is the only "right" one, need ....well, to be stopped. for the good of the nation.

I had this problem for aaaaaaaages with my dad... he just couldn't seem to get his head around the fact that I was now a parent and solely responsible for my child. It got a bit better when he saw me more.. but still, not a fun time to go through.

Stick to your guns

There's nothing worse than getting a baby out of routine, especially when you're in unfamiliar surroundings too! Perhaps if Mya woke up at 2am they would like to play with her then?

That's what I say to people who do that stuff, they back off REAL fast!

I think that we should all make some t shirts that say

MY BABY, MY RULES.

and we should wear them around certain people that just cant butt out...

I think everyone goes through this....it is such a nuisance isn't it!!, the worst for me is when you've spent ages trying to get baby down for a nap and then someone comes in and purposely wakes him up!!........I have that problem with my partner's little sister, also when I'm feeding him she'll come in and try and distract him.....I can't wait to have our own place!!. People just don't understand that we have certains ways and routines that fit well with ourselves and our babies, it just doesn't register!. And another YAH!!!!!!! for Whakatane......my home town!! love that place.

That's the BEST idea out, Thunderwolves!  He he he.  I like.

And I hear ya, Eva - certain folk even still want to "just peek in" on Ella when she's sleeping if they turn up then.  They take a long time 'peeking in' and I'm sure they're trying to subtely wake her!

Good luck with next time, Amy!  I think that that one's harder when you see them less often because they haven't seen the routines that work for your baby, so it can be tricky.
