Caitlin doesn't seem to be doing too well with lumpy/mashed foods, she either refuses the spoon altogether or manages to spit out the bits and eats the rest. But when I give her fruit that has been kind of mashed(but ends up a puree) she's fine with that. So I guess she's just being fussy/lazy OR perhaps it's my cooking??!?!
Is it a biggie that she's not managing to chew yet?

mikey took ages to get used to lumps, even really soft ones. he'd gag on the slightest lumpy bit. i just kept offering it and eventually he got used to it and now he's a pro. i really wouldn't worry about it, i'm sure she'll manage to get the hang of it in her own time.

Normally (normally) they say to offer lumps when bubbah is between the ages of 6-8 months because that is when they are more open to trying textures of food. Don't be too disheartened if she isn't interested just yet, maybe give her another month then try again? I waited till Olivia was basically grabbing food off my hand and woofing it down, that was when I knew she was ready.
Some kids miss out of the whole lumpy food thing and go straight onto finger food too!

Ella skipped the lumps and went straight to finger foods as Peace said, and Benjy is hating lumps now too. I think its quite common so not anything to do with your cooking!
I'm trying to mix a bit of the pureed stuff with the odd lumpy spoonful to see how that goes.

This sounds gross but will she eat it if you let her go for it in a plastic bowl and fingers? Might indicate whether she's being fussy and is otherwise happy to play with it - I mean eat it (well some of it will end up in her mouth, just nowhere near all!)
Otherwise I'd just try again in a couple of weeks and not worry about it until 9+ months.

I was going to say what Peace said - some kids don't ever do lumps, they just go from puree to chopped/finger foods and then somewhere along the line they eventually get into stuff like mashed potato etc.
