When is it okay to put deodorant on little kids? My girls have started asking to have some of mine when they see me put mine on in the morning etc. Is it okay for their young skin?

Test a small patch and see what happens.

Aww, how cute -- they want to be just like mum! I rang my GP and this is what she had to say:

Deodorant isn't designed for little kids -- it has chemicals and compounds in it that are meant for more mature skin, and as they are highly concentrated, it's not a good idea to use deodorant on very young children. Deodorant is for perspiration and odour control, which become issues along with changing hormones, and is formulated to address those needs in older children and adults. Kids don't need to start using deodorant until they have noticeable body odour, which coincides with puberty for most children.

That said, what if you get an old deodorant container (the roll-on kind) and fill it up with water or baby powder, and let them "pretend" with that? Or an empty stick-deodorant container with something cut to fit the empty hole -- soap, or a sponge, or something non-toxic for them to swipe under their arms. It's got to be better for their skin than the real thing.

I put a tiny bit on Bay when he asks but my deoderant is the dove sensitive stuff not that it really matters i dont think as long as its not in excess. Bay only asks every now and then and if he asks dadda my DH leaves the lid on and rolls in on his armpit and hes non the wiser lol (wouldnt put DHs deoderant on Bay cos its soooooo strong and even affects me if i use it sometimes!)

I'm not sure if they would take to roll-on considering I only use spray... what are your thoughts on lightly spraying their tummy (not as sensitive as under arm)?

Maybe they could have their own "deoderants" in pump spray bottles... water in them, or water with a bit of rose water mixed in?
