We got Ella a new carseat the other day as Benjy is too big for his capsule now and the one Ella had is convertable from rearfacing to forward.
When we went to put it in rearfacing though we found that a) it is huge, and the seat in front has to be as far forward as it can go for it to fit in, and
b) the tether strap does not reach the hook on the boot.
Benjy is 7 months old (almost) and about 8.5 kilos so would it be ok to put him in forward facing or should we get a new bolt catch fitted? If so, does anyone know the approximate cost?

You can get an extension (its about 10-15cm long from memory) for the tether strap, I got mine from the Baby Factory and I think it was $20. We have to move the passenger seat forward too, but there is still plenty of room up front.

I've got extension pieces on mine too.

He wold be OK forward facing - from 6 mths of 8kg is fine, but Plunket and LTSA recommend rear facing for up to 12 mths as it is safer.

I would rather look into stuff to make him face backwards for a bit longer. At his age, no matter what his weight is, it is really better for them to be backwards facing.

In the event of a crash and backlash (no matter what carseat you have) it is going to be less of an impact on him facing backwards and could even save his life.

Yeah yeah I know I am going to be known as the mom of doom and gloom.

Emma trust me you might have met your match. It is not that I am total doom and gloom but I get really worried about certain stuff.

Glad though that I am not the only one.

I'd keep it rear facing even tho it is a pain in the butt.

And the anchor bolts are ~$15.95 from memory (tho knowing my memory, that could be completely wrong)

And if you can find a handy man around... get them to attach to somewhere. There are a tonne of points to put it, I've found the back of the seat the easiest... though it often requires cutting into the seat fabric at the back.
