After looking over the responses, and discussion with Admin, it looks like the big OHbaby! Meet Up is going to be in...

Wellington!

There was a lot of demand for Auckland, but also a lot who wouldn't be able to do Auckland, and also a lot of demand for Palmy, but Palmy can be a bugger to get to for those who have to fly. Our reasons for choosing Wellington are:

*It's roughly half way which makes it fair for everyone
*There's plenty to do in Wellington (Te Papa etc.)
*It's easily accessible by car, train, plane, or ferry (for the S.I. Mums)
*A lot of the Mums who said they couldn't do Auckland, said they could do Wellington

And the date is 20-22 Oct 2007 )Labour Weekend, which give us just under 8 mths to plan, save, book accomodation etc.

As an idea, when I went to a Huggies meet up last May on the Gold Coast we all tried to arrange accomodation in a similar area so it was easy to catch up.

Atm Admin and I are working on putting together something for the Mums on the Saturday night. What you do the rest of the time is up to you guys! Although someone mentioned having a big kids party given how many birthdays there are around that time of year (Nikki's Hannah, Zaara, Aimee's Hannah (?) all the Oct 2006 bubs and probably plenty more that I can't think of off hand) so thats an idea.

We (Admin) are also looking at getting local media involved so we might all get our 5 mins of fame! (Our Huggies meet even made the TV news!)

So what thinks you all?

i think aswell as a "something" on the sat night it would be cool to have a few other things organised, like maybe a visit to the zoo or te-papa as a group (or a few smaller groups if there are a few going) the options are endless! it would be sooooooooo much fun. argh! oohohooooh exciting.

Rachel - you are just going to have to cancel your life and come

The Saturday night thing will probably be Mums only - a night out without the kiddies! And if hubbies come then we can't discuss them, so they can stay and babysit

And I think Rachel's idea of organising other stuff to occupy us is a great idea! Maybe some of the Wellington Mums will have some ideas. And maybe if we look at planning those things soonish we will have an idea of how much money we need to save!

The Dads! When we went to the GC Willie didn't come (obviously) so Maya stayed with one of the other Dads and their kiddies (we already knew them well).

I'll see who I can hunt down for a babysitting session... I could see if some of the creche teachers at Han's creche are interested? If we pool money together then it'd definitely be worth their while... even if there were a couple of them to do it.

And for anyone who thinks it's going to be a bit much to pay for accomodation - I'm more than happy to have people crash here. We have a few different options as far as beds go.

My Dad and step-mother live in wainuiomata (incidently - lower hutt might be a good place to meet up and stay - near the train and cheaper than in town ) will talk to them and could possibly have someone camp with us. AND they are great babysitters too! BTW, Jake's third birthday is on the 25th (I can't believe you forgot him!!!)

Yes my DH is on here but he won't be interested, he will drive me down and I hate driving in wellys (cos of the one way streets and I don't know my way around) and he would go hang out with his brother for a boys music night - and there will be no way his brother will put up with a young child as well lol so I don't think him babysitting while I'm out is an option lol

DH and i are totally in...he uses Flag hotels / motels for work so gets discount there so we would probably look at using that...might be an option to look into seeing if they or Quality ( a subsidiary) would do a bulk room rate???

Sure we can pool together for group shuttles if we hook up who is flying in and when etc, and with people staying at same or close accomodation to get into town etc...closer to date...

I was thinking "oh driving is going to be a nightmare with the gremlins - then realised they'll be a whole year old by then!

We'll fly if we can tag team it with someone - you have to have one adult per infant for take off and landing, and no way will I convince Willie. Otherwise we'll drive, probably over a couple of days - I have an uncle in New PLymouth we could stop over with

I can't imagine Jono taking a whole weekend off work (oh god forbid!) and going to the best city in NZ (country boy - hates Wellers) with a bunch of women!  Not a chance!

I just have to overcome my flying thing. I know its a short flight to wgtn but its also a small plane and Ive heard it can be pretty rough flying (breaking out in a sweat just thinking bout it)
Vanessa are you going to take the family or just go yourself?

I've gone to Chch from Wellington.. it's a very short flight! Only 45 mins I think! The plane isn't really that small I've flown on a 4 seater before! eek!

Im terrified of flying too and I actually found the only thing I hated about wellington was the taking off.
When we flew to Queenstown via chch it only took 30mins so it was basically up and down again nice and quick with a 7month old.
the flight to queenstown form chch was worse cause it was a much smaller plane and very noisey.

I will only recognise a few of the wellington people (if they come ahvent seen some of them in this thread yet so may have to see if they coming to)
The zoo sounds like fun aswell, last time we went was during construstion so we missed out on alot .

Hmm.. wellington seems a tad far. I just drove to wanganui last week and that was a mission for me lol.

Bubs will be over a month old then, so i guess if i save up i should be able to come. Will just be me as i dont know of anyone else who would want to come with, and im gonna be a single mummy. Maybe my sister and law and neice would be keen. Who knows.

Unless theres anyone on Hams who would want to go together?

Unless my mum is over from England then, if so. I cant make it. But i think shes over at christmas anyways.

So i will have to see :)
Sounds like it would be fun though.

Well, I'm out for Labour Weekend! A colleague of Nathaniel's is getting married then, and has asked Nat to be a groomsman.

Any chance of a rethink on the date? Yeah, I know... cheeky Becca!
