for you child/ren's room? Aimee's post made me wonder what other creative things people have made just for their child.

I made these canvases for Ellas room, and transformed some ugly cheap drawers from an op shop into a cute set of girly drawers.

That is so cool meow!!

We were really lucky when I was pregnant b/c I was teaching a girl whose dad is the owner/editor of a DIY magazine and he did up our babies room for us so he could use it in the mag. I still did a couple of things tho... I brought some cool bright material of butterflies and cut them out individually then bluetacked them onto the wall 'flying' towards brennas name I made out of individual wooden letters.

I'll try and take a photo tomorrow and post it cause she's gone to bed for the night and don't want to wake her by turning the light on

I'll take some more photos tomorrow when Hannah is awake, but I've also made some memory boards, repainted her drawers (twice now!) am in the process of sewing up her cot duvet cover.

Non babyroom related stuff, I am always fiddling around making things - I make all my own cards/invitations, decorate photo frames, have just made my sister a concertina photo book thingy, pumice sticks for the garden, and my husband and I together have designed and made our bedside tables and entertainment unit. I wish I could make money out of some of it tho. I am also in the process of redecorating the house (done two rooms so far) so am painting canvases etc and making things for each of the rooms - have HEAPS of cool ideas, but not enough time...

What is the colour of Ellas walls? Looks very similar to what I'm painting our place.

Those are cool Stacey, did you paint them freehand?

Aimee, you sound similar to me, I'm always making things too, from baking to gifts - used to make all gifts by hand, def not enough time now! I'm making kids clothes for a craft fair in a few weeks - but now Ella has chickenpox I don't know if I'll finish she can't go to creche, so no time during the day.

Her walls are boring white, the same colour as all the other rooms lol.. wish I could paint them, but we rent.

I painted the drawers, bookcase and beside tables for both children. Addisons are pink with butterflies (there is a photo on here somewhere) and kobes are blue with cars on them. and i also did thier names in little canvas, one wee square canvas per letter if that makes sense. Oh and we made toy boxes for them, proper ones with padding etc... so they can use them for seats aswell

Nothing coz I am completely uncoordinated - I can write tho - so you'd think my girls would have the best memory books ever but....

This is a great thread tho, coz in a couple of months we are going to do a focus on baby/toddler/preschooler rooms and will be looking for ideas and pics of some of your creative efforts!

Stacey those are awesome!!

Kat, I had looked at those on TM not so long ago. Finding the 'right' pattern fabric is the hard part for me. Something with not too small a pattern I think is best. And they are sooo simple.

We have just done up both of the kids rooms. Andrew's is a train theme with Thomas the Tank engine curtains and the walls are blue at the top for sky and then has green mountains of different sizes. His wardrobe door has been painted black (blackboard paint) as a tunnel and has cobblestones (sp?) around it. I'll try and remember to take some pics. He also has a train hanger that has his bags (yes bags he now has 3) on it. - Emma if you want some pics for the thing you are doing I can get them to you to show a boys room.

Joshua has a plain room with blue at the top and dark blue and while strips down the bottom. In the middle is a sports boarder (yet to go up as we finally got it today).

My mum is a sewer so she makes things for me and made Andrew a quilt for his first birthday, she is going to do the same for Joshua. It has their birthday imbroided on one side and the other side has their 1st birthday on it.

wow, they're all so great! it makes me feel like an uncreative lazy blob
but i'm sure that even though mikey may not grow up with an appreciation for fine art he'll be very musical, the poor boy simply can't get away from me singing or playing the piano. i guess we all have our areas.

Yup mine were done freehand. Took a whole bunch of concentration as I am not at all an arty person. So I was quite proud with how they turned out even if there are imperfections etc on them hehe

I'm hoping my boys will have my musical ability as well, Andrew loves singing and music so 1 is on the way.

Trish, you are so clever!!!

I have scrappbooked a few things for Jake.
I organised a fundraiser for the parents centre last week with Resene and an interior decorator about decorating childrens rooms, and it went really really well, and I got HEAPS and heaps of ideas for doing fun cheap things for the kids rooms, since I'm not allowed to paint the rooms (DH is such a bore)so i will post when I have done them.. (probably next century!)

You can buy the letters from spotlight (plain wood)then I painted them with a test post colour from resene. The butterflies are cut out from some material i also got at spotlight then i bluetacked everything up on the wall.

You guys are sooo good! I love doing arty things but just dont get the time!!

I am sooo inspired.....I need to get my A's in to G's and get stuff done.

I need to think of what I can do because Zaara and her future sibling will share a room and I need to have color and arty stuff that goes with both sex's.

Hmmm.....

Wow Andie I'm sure you've done more since Ella was born. Awesome!

Trish where on earth did you get the time/energy/motivation!!

I'm more of a sewwer (is it spelt sewwer so as to not confuse with a sewer??) but it's so hard to get into a sewing project with little fingers around. So I haven't done much! But I did make a princess skirt for Hannah last year, bright pink satin then net curtaining under, and a plain white lining under that (so she wouldn't have itchy legs lol). Just ran elastic through the top but it's her favourite - yay!

-------------

Posted By: Andie
Date Posted: 10 March 2007 at 1:59pm

I was wondering where Hannah got that skirt from!!  She does look like a little princess in it too - very sweet!  Nah I haven't done any art since Ella arrived.  Hang on - the stars mobile, I made that and stuck it on her change-table so she'd stop rolling over constantly through every nappy change.

I'm amazed at the sheer volume of all the ones you did too, Trish - they're so cool!  And I love Brenna's butterflies and Stacey's paintings too.  That's IT... I'm dusting off the paintbrush this avo!
