Hi, I am going to be a first time mum in August (very excited as it has taken us a while to get here) and am trying to find out about prams/strollers. My husband is pretty keen on getting a Steelcraft Transition 3 Wheel stroller in Milo - however I have not been able to find any feedback about them. Can anyone let me know what they think of steelcraft prams pls?? Or if you suggest any other kind of 3 stroller pram that is good.
Cheers Catherine

I haven't heard of them, but they sound heavy. Were you planning on having it only for walks around home, or for taking up town as well?

A friend of mine had a steelcraft pram and she didn't like it. She ended up selling it for a phil and ted one. She did say it was quite heavy.

I've got a steelcraft terrain & quite like it. It's great for walking with. I'm quite tall & the handle is in a really good position for me - a lot of other ones had fairly low handles. It's easy to fold too & lies really flat for a newborn. Only drawback is it's quite heavy & takes up a fair bit of room in the boot (although I think you get that problem with most 3 wheelers). Also, with the Terrain model you can't attach a toddler seat so we'll probably have to get something else when we have no 2.
ETA: Congrats on your pregnancy!

Thanks for help guys - the one I am looking at is only 10kgs, really lite - lighter than P&T & MB and not that bulky, fortunately we have a really large vehicle so no worries with fitting in boot etc.. I am just a bit iffy on the whole Steelcraft product as I cannot find much about them, i.e. if people have had issues with them previously with stuff breaking etc..
This model does have the option to be able to attach a baby seat later on if number two comes along, however we are not too concerned with this as we would reassess then. This is just there new model out for 06/07 so there may not be alot of people with them.
Yes I am planning to walk quite alot with the pram as we live in Ohakea (Aiforce Base) down near Palm North. (also hoping this will help shed the baby kilos!!)
Thanks for detailed feedback Nic01 it was good to hear and thanks to the rest of you for taking time to reply.
Cheers Catherine

Well we've had ours for over a year now. It's been used heaps - both for out walking & around the shops (so getting put in & out of the car boot lots) & we haven't had any issues with anything breaking, if that helps ar all.

Thanks Nic, it is good to hear that you have had no problems - bit of overzealous mother to be trying to research everything indepth!!

I can appreciate the research thing. I am also due in August and researching everything. Here is what consumer.org.nz had to say. Steel craft did rate lowest BUT had no fails in any safety check so it was prob personal preference.
"
Good points
Moderate price. Comes with boot cover, head snuggler, and pump.
But
Felt unstable on steps and kerbs and when cornering. Rated poorly off-road. Storm cover was too short. Bulky when fitting in boot of car.
"
Hope this helps

Thanks Nikki - I have seen this report for steelcraft, but is for an older model so hopefully they have improved since then. Still workingon my hubby to let me spend more to get maybe a Mountain Buggy or P&T - but we'll see
Any other key things you have found in your research??? When in August are you due?? Nice to meet another Aug 07 person!!

hey guys, congrats on your upcoming august bubs! the 25th is a great day to have a baby
anyhoo....i had a steelcraft swivelrite when we had jack and i loved it. i used it mainly for walking and never had a problem. it was easy to steer, collapse but it was a little heavy. the only reason we sold it was it didn't take a toddler seat.
we now have a bertini jet which comes with toddler seat and all the extras. this is also a great pram. lighter than the steelcraft was, easier to steer and has a sleeping bag with it rather than boot cover.
so, i'd recommend the bertini if you are wanting a toddler seat pram.....or a P&T's if you can afford it

I had a steelcraft and if you are going ot do lots of walking i wouldnt recomend them but they are good for jsut small distances in walking.
If you are planning on walking heaps and on ahving more children it is prob best to get a lighter pram deisgned for lots of walking and one that can hold a toddler seat.
We didnt take all these things into account as we jsut went by what the shop lady said and we think she jsut wanted a sale as the pram was not suited to our circumstances with me not driving.
Now that we are pregnant we are having to buy another pram because of ours not taking a toddler seat so we are going for the phil & teds.
We also had to find one that would hold a heavy toddler who will also not be quite old enough for walking long distances so normal toddler seats werent going to work for us.
I do suggest to shop around and test out prams with ease of collapsing, weight of it, sturdyness etc. Try find as much info on the pram as you can so you cna make the decision on your own circumstances.

Thanks for feedback Monique/Haylieghsmum, fortunatley the model of steelcraft we are looking at (which is there new model -Transition) is only 10kgs and is able to take a todler seat (collapses with todler seat attached too), so hopefully they may have improved model. But will definitely take a few for a test drive. We are off to Wgtn tomorrow to attack the baby stores and give all the gadgets a testing (DH is so excited - NOT )

I have a friend who had a 3 wheeler steelcraft - not sure which one. She hated it, it would overbalance easily and I know she had to send it away to be fixed a couple of times.
We still ahven't decided on one we want either, but we don't want a 3 wheeler.

Cheers Miss/Kylie - will ensure that I check the balance issue - have heard this from a few people now so it has really peaked my interest to ensure I check it. Thanks for feedback, we will still go with 3 wheeler though as I live in country and it is easier to get around -

yeah the 3wheelers really need to have a fourth wheel attatchment if they ahve a front toddler seat or they do tend to overbalance easily.
I think the pedigree have them with the extra fourth wheel attatchment for the toddler seat.
I was told in Wellington that babystar (i think thats its name) in newtown is great, here in Lower Hutt is poor selection adn I found they dont really know what they are talking about in the baby stores.

HI Monique
Visited Babystar today and it has heaps of stuff - alot at the $$$$ Exp end of the market, but they do have a good range of the latest P&T stuff. We only had a quick look as we were only doing Pram recky today, but also had good range of clothes (bubs & Mum) along with all other bub stuff (fuzzibuns, lotions, etc...). Has easy parking outside shop too, which is great as Adelaide Rd is a busy street. I think I have managed to talk my hubby into getting a P&T now - YIPEEEEEEEEE he has finally come to his senses and seen my way (as they normally do after a little coaxing!!). I think we will either get through Winkalotts or via Trademe if able just to save $$. Hope you have fun at Babystar when you get there, the staff seemed really lovely

So how do P&Ts compare to Mountain Buggy? I was thinking of a Mountain buggy urban elite. any thoughts?
|
Posted By: MyMinis
Date Posted: 16 March 2007 at 4:38pm
if you are planning on having more than one child i wouldnt recomend the mountain buggy as they dont have toddler attatchments.
but if you are only having the one i think they are both excellant prams.
i have test run them both in shops and i do like the feel of them both, but the p&t do have a completely lay back flat back where as mountain buggy dont

Thats good to know Monique. I was thinking about getting the mountain buggy with a carry cot so bubs can face me in those early months. As for the 2nd child, we definately do want one but part of me thinks it is more likely to happen if we are totally unprepared so that might lean us to the mountain buggy. If we find we have to change it in a couple of years we wont be too upset, it will mean No 2 is on the way

hehe yeah. we never planned on number 2 so we are still yet to buy our p&t but we still ahve plenty of time (so DF reacons lol).
I love the idea of the carrycots to, I was looking at the mountain buggy twin pram as you can have one carrycot at a time in it but I dont liek side by side prams esp since I walke everywhere and my single buggy barely fits through doorways.
which is what leaned us towrds the p&t.
but eyah i ahve to say the carry cot idea is def a great way cause then it doesnt matter when bubs is asleep in it as they are still completly flat as if they are in bed.

Hi - just a note on Phil & Ted's strollers - the newest model comes with mudguards on the back wheels which is a great idea, but I hear thru the grapevine that they HAD to add these as when the todler seat is added on the back of the stroller, the child is low enough to put their fingers through the back wheels! Be aware if your model doesn't have the mudguards and check how long your kid's arms are if using this seat. You should be able to get mudguards from a bike shop I would say, or possibly from the P&T factory.

Thanks ladies
After alot of debate on different buggies - it wasn't until I had read your posts & did further research on several different sites that I realised the Urban Elite Mountain Buggy - that we have already purchased isn't really going to be the one! It's lightweight & easy to maneuvre & awesome if you're only planning to have one but does not have the toddler seat option that we would like to have the option of..
We had only briefly looked at the P & T sports buggy -until tonight - we are going to have to try & get a credit now for our Mountain Buggy lol! The way that other twin seat models jut out looks really awkward & just doesn't seem to be all that user friendly. I'm definitely getting mine from winkalotts
Thanks again

I've just bought my pram today! Well, it's on layby.
It's a Milano Telescopic Fold Stroller from Babycity. It was $299
We weren't keen on spending so much on a stroller as I don't drive and will just be using it to go for little walks to the shops and back. The one I got is really light, has four wheels (which I wanted) and is from newborn up. I didn't bother getting one with a toddler seat as we are only planning on having the one child. I could have got the capsule to go with it, but I decided not to as I don't think I'll be using it much. (Not much of a shopper, and I think I'll be spending a lot of time at home or walking to visit family).
So I'm very pleased!

Sounds like it was the ideal purchase for you eomachine
We just returned our buggy today & got a credit for it. Might get our cot using the credit as they don't have the stroller we want there. Certainly starts adding up!
All the best with your little one

After researching both Moutain Buggy and Phil&Ted I think they are both excellend brands. If you get either I don't think you'd be disappointed at all.
The Phil&Ted brand does have the added advantage of buying the secon seat for toddler and the MB has rear shocks (great for running)....so both have pros & cons.
The Phil&Ted is slightly narrorer and folds downs smaller than MB (in case you have space restrictions). I took DH to view both in the shop and he really liked the P&T so looks like we'll be getting that one.
Truely I don't think you can go wrong with either.

It does sound that way doesnt it? We have ordered our MB with a carry cot. When number 2 comes around we will be more than happy to change to something that works for a toddler....until then, I cant wait for our buggy.
