A couple of weeks ago, I found a lump in my breast, it was hard and a fairly decent size - golfball maybe?! Being newly pg, I went to my GP who checked it and said it was prob hormonal - as I hadnt noticed it before - but would be worth getting it checked. So earlier this week I went to see a specialist (thank goodness for Southern Cross!) who did an ultrasound and decided that she would do a Fine Needle Aspiration to check out what it was....basically getting a huge needle stuck into your boob isnt much fun...but it was more painful afterwards! (My boob has a perfectly round bruise the size of a old 50c coin....very strange!!) She thinks its probaby a 'Lactating Adenoma' - and I was wondering if anyone out there has experienced anything similar during pg? She mentioned that sometimes they choose to remove these in the 2nd trimester as they just keep growing - apparently its not as risky in the 2nd trimester.

I am now sitting here waiting for my results of the biopsy, kind of nervous - but hoping everything is fine.

DH is so 'not worried' about it that he hasnt even asked about it today - I wish I had his confidence.

How long do you have to wait? I think I'd be nervous too, even though it sounds kinda common.

As if you are not going through enough just being pregnant. Send all positive thoughts your way, as even though the results will be fine it is really nerve racking.
Wait to hear the good results.

Hi Simsam,

I discovered a lump in my right breast two months ago (about the size of a marble) and I went to get it checked by my GP who then referred me to get an ultra sound. It was a pretty scary experience but when I had the ultrasound the sonographer said it was a cyst so that was a relief. I then went back to see my GP who said that she was not satisifed with the results of the scan so I had to then go and see a breast specialist at the Wellington Hospital who did an examination and then took a biopsy. It was a bit scary but at the time the specialist said that it was nothing to loose sleep over. I did however have to wait to get my results back from the biopsy but luckily it was a cyst. I think that women should never take any chances and if they do discover a lump to go and get it checked out.

I hope that everything will work out OK for you.

Hi simsam, I too have been in the same boat twice. (not when pregnant though). its not a pleasent experience, but is made better by having supportive staff that explain everything and all your options. and great family and friends. I hope your results are good.

Hi

Had the results this afternoon - and YAY - no nasties! I am popping back to the specialist tomorrow morning as the wound (sorry prob TMI!) is not healing as it should be - but apart from that wont have to see them for 6 months!!

Feel so releived - I didnt want to have to be dealing with anything else at the moment!

Thanks for all your kind thoughts and support! I am guessing its a fairly common thing in pregnancy - but I have never known anyone with it.

Thanks again
