This is a little work problem..

HR advised me to use up some of my leave before going on maternity leave which is awesome so 3 weeks back I applied to have the 19th - 23rd of March off. Reason I choose this week was that no public holidays in march, plenty in april and I finish at the end of april so I figured it would make March go by nice n quick.

Theres a court case being prepared for at work that I'm involved in, last week I was told I would be doing full time work on this if I don't mind. I don't. But when I told him I had a week off coming up he got a bit scared (in case we had to prepare more docs in a hurry) so I told him I might be able to move it.

I'm getting to my point lol...

Today however, my brain is useless. I can't think or do anything efficiently at all. I'm sooo tired despite getting a semi decent amount of sleep over the weekend.. the thought of having next week off is fantastic but I feel guilty if I don't move it..

Should I just take the time off and let work deal with it themselves?

Or move my leave, but the problem with this is that there probably won't be an "ideal" time for me to use this leave as the court case itself isn't until the 30th of April (my first day of maternity leave! lol)

I feel guilty as at the moment!

could you take half of next week off and half the week after perhaps? That is more what I would do as I love short weeks! That said though, if you are really tired you wont be functioning to your full potential and if at all like me, prone to mistakes happening which for the court case would not be good. yes it sucks for your boss, but would suck more if they made you work, then you ended up off for longer, and if little mistakes did creep through due to your being tired.

It's a bit tricky to answer this question because I don't know how senior/irreplaceable you are... gee that sounds quite nice doesn't it!

It sounds to me like you've been hanging out for your leave and could do with a (well-earned) break. So I'd go for the week off! You could compromise on Monday and Tuesday off next week and the other three leave days the following week, but since the case is gonna continue past the end of April, then they might as well learn to take that one on now.

If you do take time off then make it clear that they aren't to phone you! You want a week off to not think about *anything* about work, otherwise there's no point taking leave!

Hey Stacey,
I'd take the leave. I know how you're feeling as my brain is like that too at the mo and I feel exhausted and I'm starting to get stressed and really need a rest.
They are going to have to cope without you soon, so I'm sure they will survive if you take the week. They will just have to organise someone else to do the work (easier said than done probably - I know if I took time off now I'd just come back to more work and more stress!!!).
Don't feel guilty ... they asked you to put in for some leave, and you've had it planned for a little while, and it sounds like you could do with a rest ....
Enjoy your break!!!! I'm jealous! haha.

They wouldn't get someone else to do the work because none of the other girls in the team have the knowledge of the information etc to do it properly. Just means that the poor dude who is looking after it with me will be landed with more work.

I'm gonna take the week off, just gotta figure out the best time to tell him I'm not gonna change my leave now. He will understand but I'll still pick my moment when he's not all stressed out.
