Hello all, just wondering - as I've got a sore tummy and will probably get headaches in the near future too, what medications are safe to relieve pain? I normally take nurofen, but I looked on the container this morning and it said not to be taken when pregnant - can anyone tell me what painkillers are safe to have?

Panadol is safe. Check with your midwife if you are worried, or ask a chemist. You can't take disprin or asprin, as they thin the blood.

I'm a bit surprised that your tummy is sore, is it stretching? cramping? It might pay to run it past the mw.

Panadol/ paracetamol is safe, nurofen/ibuprofen and other antiinflammatories arent. Codeine only on medical advice. I would avoid it anyway because it commonly causes constipation.

Actually just looked up codeine in my professional drug guide (MIMS) and it says use in caution in pregnancy which generally means only on advice from your doctor or midwife

(PS I'm a pharmacist)

I wa told panadeine would be ok by my doctor and mw if I really needed it - surprisingly I have found panadol enough for anything I have had. Luckily I haven't had a migraine yet - long may that continue, but prior to pregnancy panadol did nothing for any headaches I got, so it was a surprise it seemed so effective.

I haven't taken anything for sore stomachs, be it stretching pain or anything, I have just ridden it out.

I think its just when my bladder is full it hurts - so I'll have to learn to go to the loo more often! :)

Thanks for the tips - I'll stock up on panadol!

lol emachan unfortunately there's a lot of that. Regular emptying though will help you avoid getting a UTI (urinary tract infection).
