When do you start having tummy time for baby and how long should they have on their tummies?

My midwife said I could do it very early on - maybe week 2 or 3 ish I think it was. She said just to put him over a pillow for a start so it was easier. He didn't do very long at the beginning - a minute or so and would then cry and I would turn him over again.

Josh loves his tummy time. We started him at 2 weeks old and for a few minutes. He would lift his head up and around then down again and then move it from one side to the other then get grumpy so rolled him onto his back.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I'm not too fussed on tummy time because some babies (like my first two) absolutely hate it so I didn't push it with them. I know it's supposed to be 10 minutes but I can't remember from what age that was. I guess it probably builds up to 10 minutes by 3 months or something. Briona couldn't do tummy time because of reflux (just made her sick up all over the place and then rub her nose in it) but she was crawling at 5mos and pulling to standing at 6mos.

Krystiana is 2 months at the moment and she actually likes it on her tummy for short periods. I mostly just do tummy time when I'm getting her changed though - roll her over to do up whatever domes/buttons at the back and then roll her back when she wants.

Noah likes being on his tummy for a little while and can hold his head up for a bit and look around.   I think it helps a little with his wind too. Thanks ladies. I just wanted to be sure that I wasn't pushing it too early.

I had the gremlins on their tums from a week old, they seemed to enjoy it, we did the over-a-pillow thing for Mercedes so she was a little elevated with the reflux.

Maya on the other hand absoltely hated it, she would scream from the minute I put her down on her tum till I turned her over. She refused to roll, didn't crawl until 8 mths which was well after she was able to stand, yet walked at 10 mths. Strange child.

I put Alize on his tummy from a few days old. I just used a pillow as he got older due to his reflux. Hes just going thru a stage now of not really liking it. Still offer him a few minutes a day thou.
