That is a great site - it really appeals to me as a name nazi, and there are some hideous examples on it! Still none as bad as a couple I have heard/seen.

The hardest thing is biting your tongue when someone shares a name that you think is just awful! But I manage to, unless they ask for my opinion, in which case I am honest.

I've spent the last hour and a half just wetting myself over some of the names, and some of the comments.

Sooo funny..

"I love the name Meloncholia Francessca Antouinette for a girl and Zakeri Atruellu for a boy, but my family and spouse ablosute hate it."

Lol - I thought this one was great:

Brittany after the statue- Brittania

'Cause nothing in, say, France is called Britanny. Nothing big like a province. Nothing else in England called Britannia, either. Nothing big like...England.

Love the sarky comments!!!!

Reminds me, I have to say, I found out my trailer trash bro is having a boy (well his gf is) they had their scan today, and it was a great sigh of relief to hear it's a boy, cos if it was a girl, the poor wee mite was going to be calld.. now, you had better sit down....SHAKIRA. Yep, thats right. I would have had to call it baby as I would not have been able to say Shakira without laughing, but it might have sounded a bit odd, when she was about 20 or so, aye?

Oooh that reminds me of when I found out I was pregnant, I was an office temp with another girl. We were talking about baby names and she said that if she ever had a girl she was going to call her Shakira. I burst out laughing, thinking she was joking, but she wasn't. She then went on to say 'Not because of the singer, I thought of the name WAY before Shakira was a singer..' I laughed about it for ages..

My poor little cousins name is Tegan McFanny! Yes you read it right! I don't know how my uncle could have done that to her!

In saying that my SIL named her daughter Brianna which is a beautiful name, but it is the reason behind it that always causes my DH and I to have fits of laughter.
"Because it's a happy name!"

Yes she is a bit simple!

As a teacher I've come across a few horrific ones:

Christmas
Greenlane
Seaman (named after his grandfather who was a ship captain)
Cinnamon

Right now it's funny though, as my class this year and last has been full of Madisons, Mikaylas, Jacks, Megs, Tylers, Charlee's - must have been a trend 5-6 years ago!

OMG, LMAO! Isn't it amazing. I went to school with a boy called Richard Head! What is wrong with these parents!

In saying that, my MIL hates the name Samantha. She keeps asking us if we are still naming the baby it. Don't know or care why she doesn't like it, but I personally don't think she would be happy unless it was named after her

Teachers do know the best names:
Twins: Acid and Hash
Kurupt
Typhphanee
Wulfaren (pronounced Wolverine)

Oh, so many stupid ones, let alone the phonically challenged ones!

And Glow, there is nothing wrong with Brae or Kaylx!

My uncle is an OB/GYN in the US, and he has told me some hilarious names his patients have given their kids. The best, best, best ones he told me was this mum who named her two sons Lemanjelo and Oranjelo -- because all she could eat when she was pregnant with each of them was lemon jello and orange jello, respectively.

My nieces are named Jayden and Rylee -- and I can't help it, but I think those are boys' names!

Last but not least, when I worked at Woman's Weekly we had a story about a mum whose daughter was named Shakaneigh. We spent hours trying to figure out how it's pronounced (Shak A Nay or Shack Ann E or what?). When Emma Rose was born, I sent a text to all my old colleagues telling them we'd named her Shakaneigh. A couple of them got the joke, but a few texted back begging me to reconsider! LOL

I have spent my whole life with people not knowing how to pronounce or spell my name. Don't get me wrong because I have have such a unique name (I have seriously never heard of another Sterryn), but decided for my daughter something a little easier was in order

Oh and my smart mum didn't give me a middle name just incase I hated my first name and wanted to change it further down the track. Which I would never do :)

The very worst name I have ever heard was through work where i was asked to insure a day care centre.
"Raper daycare". Who would sent their child there

I heard quite a few unusual names at my last school (and now that I've typed that I can only remember a couple!)

Listeria (not sure if this was how it was actually spelt tho)
Travelman (named after uncle who travelled alot)
There was one boy who was named after a rugby game with Argentina playing but he went by Archie for short...

I know a little girl Riley, but it is spelt
Rylieg. now that is NOT phonetic at all!!!!! I don't mind weird names (well, i do, but anyway), you can't just insert random letters together like "asfdkjshdglksa" and say it is pronounced "elizabeth" - grrr

Sterryn, I have always wondered about your name and was wondering if you would mind sharing how it came about? If you don't mind that is, you must get sick of peopel asking.

No worries Annie, I don't get asked as often as you would think

It is Gaelic and means the first flower to open after a storm. Isn't that nice

I was supposed to be Rhiannon apparently, but my mom was reading a book while in labour with a Sterin in it and decided when i was born that it suited me better. Spelling was changed obviously as well.

I actually love my name, so have never had too many issues apart from people spelling it or trying to pronounce it of course Best thing is being unusual that people generally remember me too. Great for job interviews :)

We have spoken about baby names alot, and my favourite are Rukia for a girl (its Japanese, from a  story...) and Phoenix for a boy.

Dunno if anyone would think these were weird, but hopefully they dont seem too repulsive to most!

Thoughts appreciated...

I love Bella Grace or Aislinn Grace (Pronounced ashlin) for a girl - When DP parents found out the reply was "OH but Bella really? Why not mary or lucy or etc. etc. hehe and for a boy DP wont sway from Liam James.
