I'm wanting to keep Brennas clothes she's grown out of in the hope to re-use some/all of them next time(s) around...

I've heard that storing them in plastic isn't good.

What is the best way to store baby clothes for further use????

I've read that the best way to store clothes is hanging up, if you can manage it, covered by a clean white bedsheet. If you have to store them in a box, first wash them and make sure they're really dry (not at all damp), then button all the buttons and close all the zips, then lay flat (don't fold) in between sheets of acid-free tissue paper (available at craft stores, the Warehouse in their craft section, and other places). Then place in a cardboard or fabric box (acid-free) as plastic can cause the clothes to retain moisture and get moldy or musty-smelling. Don't use mothballs or anything, as they can stain clothes. Check them every six months and rewash items that have stains that have started to show up (like milk, which apparently can look like it's come out but can show up as a light-coloured stain later).

Sounds like a real process, eh?

I have my baby clothes stored in banana boxes but in saying that, they are stored inside the house not anywhere like the garage. My mum suggests putting them in boxes in the attic with mothballs

Hmph... and here I had been being proud of just having mine organised in cardboard boxes by size!  I don't think I can be bothered going through them again and doing up all the buttons and zips... but good luck, Anna!

BTW... it's gonna feel like such a BARGAIN re-using them all again one day eh!  A whole free wardrobe - woo-hoo!

i not long pulled out a whole heap of baby clothes from boxes and ALL the whites were stained some of the stains came out with bleach but some of them still have stains bad.
some were in a box which df put in the garage in our last house not realising how damp it was there and we ahd to thrwo them out as they went so mouldy they were not reuseable.
but if you have a dry house and keep checking them every so often they should be fine in a box

My man also had a good suggestion -- run the dehumidifier in the room where things are stored occasionally, to help get rid of the damp. All our stuff is stored in the cold, damp garage, so this works really well for us. ;)

I guess it depends how long you are storing for as well. Ours haven't been stored for long between children which is probably just as well cause I never thought of doing all the domes up - makes sense now!

Mine are in plastic bags in the hot water cupboard so they shouldn't get damp in there.

I keep mine in those big vacuum storage bags, not sure how good it is but they seem to be okay.

I know Mum keeps our heirloom christening gown wrapped in blue tissue to stop it going yellow.

we've got all of Caitlin's old clothes in those vacuum storage bags. I've had clothes in one bag for nearly 4 years and they're still ok (should really get rid of said clothes )
