Our rubber ducks have bird flu! Emma Rose's rubber duck collection (she has about 50) are coming up in mouldy spots inside. I noticed one had a funny black mark on its beak last week, cut its head off with a pair of scissors (after Em was in bed so she wouldn't see the carnage and be scarred for life) and found it was full of mould! Ack!

She chews them in the bath, so I've taken them all out and checked them over, to find out that over half the flock is infected. They went in the bin, of course, but now I'm worried about the rest. My mom reminded me to drain them fully after the bath (squeeze out all the water) as it would help, and DH is going to run the dehumidifier in the bathroom tonight to try to help with it, but is there anything else I can do? Since the mould is inside the ducks, it's impossible to clean them...

i never really thought about it now im thinking i better go through haleighs bath toys and see if they gone mouldy inside, cause she chews on ehrs to. and i know sometimes mine dont always get emptied after bath time.
i dont think you'd ever be able to stop mould on the inside of them, our dehum runs down our hallway all teh time and i leave the bathroom door open but i dont think that would stop the mould.
hope you find a way to stop it

perhaps a bit of Pine-o-clean diluted, swish around or soak them.... then give them a seriously good rinsing after... or maybe (this is going to sound weird..) dishwasher if you can...???

If you want to actually kill the mould try putting janola in them - but I don't know if that will discolour them or not

I had the same problem nearly two years ago, and just threw them all out. the only adviuce I DID get, was to buy cheap bath toys, buy a heap and then replace them as they get mouldy.

Ellas have done that too, but luckily she doesn't chew on them anymore (much ). Her animal squeezy toys have mould inside, and everytime you squeeze them, it comes out. I might see if I can buy her a new set actually, as she plays with these animals every bath/shower.

We don't have a dishwasher, although I don't think that's such a bad suggestion, Bee! :) I might try to Janola or Pine-O-Clean them. They were cheap but she loves them and it's sad to biff them out, as they're all in reasonably good condition otherwise. I'll see what I come up with...

When we did Toy Library I used to have to clean all the toys with Janola and water before I took them back. Worked wonders, altho I have to agree with Liz when it comes to mould that is actually INSIDE the toys I haven't had much luck.

Mind you, I have a bad case of 'second (and third) baby syndrome' and let my babies chew on them anyway
