I thought that I would start a new thread as there doesn't seem to be many of us yet, and we may have to make it a thread for May mums too Not that I have a problem with that.
I thought I would post a picture of my little boy that I took this morning. He didnt think he should have to go to sleep. 4 days old and already starting to be cheeky.
I would love to hear from any of the other new April mums.

Congratulations again on your little boy! He's just beautiful.
I think there will be a few more joining you in the next few weeks and then I'll definitely be in here in about 5 weeks. Fingers crossed, cause I still might end up a June mum. They will definitely need their own thread as there are so many of them and they are a chatty bunch!

Yay Skyflame, an April Mum's thread. I love the idea of it being April/May since there don't seem to be too many of us. Hopefully I can join you soon :)

I'm happy for the May mums to be added to the April mums thread. There aren't too many of us in either and we all seem to chat together on both the April/May pregnancy threads already.
Not sure what the other mums/mums to be think but I'm sure they would be keen too.

I vote for the combined thread for April and May as we always seem to be in each others preggie threads anyway. I think that June babies will definately need their own thread though especially with them being up in the 120's for pregnancy.
If you could change it to April and May and sticky the thread that would be great Maya.
Caleb is doing well started to sleep a bit longer last night which was a bonus after 2 nights of no sleep (3 if you count night I gave birth) and 1 of an hour of sleep at a time. He managed to go in 3 hour sections last night until 3.30 then was up for a couple of hours before going back to sleep for just over and hour.
I couldnt believe it when he was awake for 3 hours this morning though, and was happy the whole time no grizzles or anything.
He just seems so small though and I am scared that I am going to break him
I look forward to having the rest of you in here too soon. I hope that Farawys induction is going well.

We are doing well, he is sleeping again at the moment.
I can't believe it has been a whole week already, it has gone so fast. He is sleeping for approximatly 3 hours at a time now apart from Monday night which he seemed to want to eat every hour. Midwife is coming today and will weigh him so we will see how much my little boy has put on, as he has put on weight I am sure.
We had a big day yesterday and went out visiting and to coffee group and he was really good. He has no problem with being passed around for cuddles. Granted he was sleeping at the time but was still really good.
Our biggest issue seems to be getting him to pass wind, he is really bad at it and holds on tight then gets all upset. He is also really modest though and hates to have his nappy changed and hates having his clothes off, he screams his little head off until you have him dressed again.
Yea birth was a bit unexpected and not at all what we had planned, which just goes to show that anything can happen and to try not to get to attached to a certain idea of how the birth will go.
I wonder how Faraway's induction went and what she had, hopefully she will be back to let us know before too long.

Well midwife came yesterday to check on Caleb, got help up previous day as she had 4 births. He has managed to put on 160g on his birth weight so now weighs 6 lb 6 oz or 2.96 kg and is doign really well. Midwife is really happy with his progress and everything seems to be good with him.
I had a bit of a long night last night as he did not want to settle. Went to sleep after his 10.30 feed then woke up at 12.30 and did not go back to sleep until 3.30 this morning. He even managed to wake DH at 3 so it is a good thing he didnt have to go in to the office today as driving 1.5 hours to work and then the same back this evening when he is tired would not be good.
Oh well I think it is time to try get another nap as he seems to be resting now, I think part of it is the change in temp is getting to him as it is getting a bit cold at night now. Poor little bubba, will have to make sure I keep filling his hottie to warm his bed.

Seems like you are enjoying your wee man Skyflame , the sleep deprivation is hard aye? But it does get better - or maybe you just get used to it .
Elle was the same with her wind, and she would get really upset, we tried boiled water - which worked pretty much, but at the moment we are trialling Infacol - which seems to be working too. I also hear gripe water is good for some babies.

Looks like there should be some more April mums to join in soon, and you are not too far off joining the club Sterryn. It will be good to have others to talk to with babies of the same age.
My midwife came today and weighed our little man he has put on 200 gms since Thursday so is now 7 lb. I cant believe how fast he is growing, and that he will be 2 weeks old tomorrow.
It will be interesting to see how we do on Friday though as it will be the first day that DH is not home, has to go into the office in Auckland. We are going to go do some shopping and have lunch in Hamilton with Mum, but I wont be able to just pop out and do anything like put out the washing as easily and we will be on our own from about 5 am til 7 pm I suppose we will have to get used to it as DH only has to go once a week and he had to go back into the office at some point.

I was wondering how you were all doing. Glad to hear it is all going well.
I can't wait to join you in this thread properly, I am over being pregnant now, really, really uncomfortable, but no signs of anything happening either Just want to meet my little girl now

Hopefully not too much longer Sterryn, I know how you feel though as I was feeling much the same as Caleb was only a few days before his scan date, if he had gone to my lmp date I would have gone loopy.
Am dreading not being able to just hand Caleb over when I need a break, I have been really lucky in that respect, but i suppose it is only 1 day a week.
Midwife thinks my little guts will make a good go of getting to 8 lb by his next weigh in, but we will have to see. I am looking forward to getting out of town for the afternoon on Friday though, at least I am now, we will see how I feel after being out on Friday. I really hope he behaves.

I'm sure he will be a perfect little angel for you on Friday I mean seriously look at him, how could he not be
Sam is going to be late. Don't ask me how I know, but I just think we are going to end up with an induction. My m/w has been preparing me for it with her being so posterior and absolutley no signs of anything even starting to happen. I guess now it is starting to sink in. A bit depressing to think another whole 2 weeks and 3 days at the most though. I am going to cheer myself up by buying fuzzibunz asap

lol about the fuzzibunz. I am trying to refrain from buying more tweedle nappies as they are so cute, while I wait for my order (held up on insert delay) I am trying to stay away from the nappy sites though, although I think I would like to try a fuzzibunz, just trying to work out whther I can really afford it and whether I can sneak it past DH. I am planning to go to the Snazzipants store when I next come to Auckland in a few weeks which could be a dangerous thing.
Hopefully things start to happen soon on their own or the sweep helps to get Sam moving even if that is still a week away.

Good luck with everything, I hope it all goes well and Sam doesnt cause you too much pain. I will look forward to seeing you back here when you get home and seeing pics of your little (well maybe big) Sam and hearing how it went.
I am soooo excited for you. See you soon.

Well Sterryn I expect that you will be back in here soon, as an official April mum. I am so glad that all three of you are well and home safe and sound. I hope that Sam is settling in nicely and I look forward to seeing piccys of her soon. I am so surprised at her size though since they told you she would be so big, I bet you were quite thankful she wasn't huge though.
Well our first outing alone on Friday went reasonably well and he was well behaved most of the day, just got a little grizzly towards the end.
We went into my work and he got lots of cuddles and clucked over by my workmates that were on, am planning on meeting up with some of the others after Waikato meet up on friday. Mum then took great pleasure in showing off her grandson to her workmates and making them all clucky too.
I managed to quickly look around spotlight before he woke up but then had issues when we went shopping at the base as he was grizzly and did not want to be in his stroller after we started out. Unfortunatly this meant I had to carry him and push the stroller, this however did not stop me from buying him clothes he still does not fit from Pumpkin patch and am now having to hang out til I come to Auckland in 2 1/2 weeks before I can go back and try avoid spending more at PP on him.
Cutest part is though that when DH got home he complained that he had missed Caleb as he would keep getting a whiff of baby smell on him and then get sad because he wasnt there. Little monster was quiet and had big cuddles with DH when he got home too.
Now I am just hoping he sleeps properly tonight as he was up every hour to feed. I am hoping this is just a growth spurt as he has wanted to feed every 30-60 mins today and I am completely worn out.

Well I feel fine so far. I think I'm still leaking. It's not a lot, but it's definitely not pee and it's clear. I just went and packed a whole lot of things in my labour bag and have got the carseat sitting next to it, so we are all ready to go if something happens.
Thankfully today we were given the last of the items we were needing, like bath, change table and bassinette sheets. I got the cot on Friday, so that's all done.
I am ready in a sense, but really not ready in another sense. Will see how things go over tonight.
Trying hard not to freak out! Will let you know how I go.

Sam looks gorgeous Sterryn, and you certainly showed them. And to think your midwife wanted to put your due date back further into May. Crazy.
I do tend to look at him an aweful lot and wonder how he can be so cute, and getting cuter by the day.
I cant believe he is almost 3 weeks old, it feels like only a few days ago I was at the same stage you are.
So are you coping ok now you are back at home?
I had another slightly rough night last night with Caleb wanting to feed every hour and then having probs bringing up his wind, but has dropped back to his usual 2 hourly feeds today, so here is to hoping tonight will be a bit better.
I think that Sam decided to come early as she was excited about her fuzzi's. Pity now she has to wait a bit longer.

Hi!
Glad to hear I'm not the only one having some rough days when all he seems to want to do is feed! I also think it was a growth spurt, and seems likely - he just got weighed by the midwife today (is 8 days old) and is up 170g on birth weight, and that's over 400g since we left hospital last Wednesday!
And yes, wind can be a bit of a problem here. He's quite a guzzler, so I don't think that helps either. And quite often he'll spit a bit back up after a feed. But the midwife says not to worry - with his weight going on like that, he's doing great. Just means lots of washing!! Hehe.
We've only been out for one little outing so far, and he was really good for it, but I was shattered! I think I'm nearly ready for another try though. Maybe those iron tablets are working their magic or something.
Hmm, must go get myself a new ticker...

Glad to hear that things are going reasonably well Jo. Dont you just love those growth spurts, Midwife is coming to weigh Caleb again tomorrow so it will be interesting to see how much he has put on since last week. Put on 160gm first week then another 200 second week. My boy is quite the guzzler too, he seems to feed really fast and then you spend forever trying to get him to burp, end up putting him down only to have to pick him up 10 mins later crying as his tummy hurts.
Glad to hear Anton had a good first outing, hopefully you wont be quite so tired after the next one with the iron tablets kicking in. We are off to our coffee group again tomorrow and it will be good to see the new babies as there was still 3 to be born last time so there should be 2 new ones if not 3.

Yeah, come on littlejo, where are the photos
Well my little darling slept from 2.30 am to 6.15am this morning so that was a fantastic sleep. My milk came in yesterday so she probably got a bit more than she had bargained for in the last feed
Probably going to regret saying this, but keep waiting for the sleep deprivation thing to kick in. I feel abnormally good, but in saying that have always been able to cope on 5-6 hours sleep anyway.
The other thing that is awesome is that DH is taking her about 10 - 10.30 at night for an hour or so of daddy time after a feed so I can go have a nap for that time. It is great!

I am so jealous that Sam slept that long, and hopefully she will keep it up. I thought we might have a better night last night since Caleb had got back into his pattern again yesterday, but apparently not. He did manage to have a couple of 2 hour sleeps last night but then was back to the hourly feedings. Midwife was meant to be coming to see him today but has been caught up so he has another day to pack on the weight.
Oh how I long for a few hours (even 4 would do) of uninterrupted sleep. Hopefully before too long I will be able to get it.
DH has been really good though, if he knows I have had a really bad night he will take Caleb with him and either have him on his lap or in his bouncer with him while he works first thing in the morning so I can try get a sleep between 7 and 9.

Ooh just found this post! My Kaleb is quite a guzzler too - think he MUST be going through a growth spurt at moment - he was up from 7.30 til 10.45 this morning at took a combined total of 210ml of milk (breast and formula) during that time - tried my best to wind him but just couldn't get it up, then DH came home from work for an hour to help me (in tears by this stage) and it came up straight away (one of the many things I miss about being home on my own...)
However Kaleb has been asleep since then - four hours now! Hope he wakes soonish....
So hear you on the lack of sleep thing - I managed about 5 and a half hours last night but most of that was light sleep as listening to my little hedgehog snuffle and snort his way into sleep

Well my boy has grown for sure. Thought I would double check one of his outfits last night when we got home from coffee group and he has gotten longer is starting to fit his bigger newborn clothing, before too long he might be into 0-3 month stuff. I have found a huge difference in sizing though, the kmart newborn clothing and some premmie stuff I had been given was all he had been fitting, the newborn stuff from Farmers is still too big though.
Sterryn have you had any problems getting clothing to fit your little one?
I cant wait to see how heavy he is today and I fill have to measure how long he is again.
Poor DH, he had been watching Caleb while I got a nap last night as he stays up late normally anyway and when he woke me for Caleb's 2am feeding he was not impressed as there had been a bit of a poo-splosion all over him
|
Posted By: Mama2two
Date Posted: 02 May 2007 at 1:25pm
Hehehehe, poo explosion. Poor DH
Well we had the night from Hell last night, and most of that was nothing to do with Sam.
My midwife came in the evening to do the heel prick which meant I had a screaming baby on my hands anyway, and then to make things worse my milk came in yesterday full on and I was so engorged I just couldn't get my little Sam on to feed her. So I was upset (crying hysterically because I was failing as a mum already), Sam was half starving and already upset from earlier and then my Grandmother and Father turned up! My horrible Grandmother started making comments about just letting her cry and not to spoil her by coddling her! Grrrrrr! Thank goodness for DH, he came in and took screaming Sam for a few minutes so I could compose myself a little bit, calmed me down with cuddles and then dealt with my family! I don't know what I would have done without him! In the end my Grandmother made some comment about how they maybe should go since we were obviously too busy to pay them any attention (in a really snotty way too) and I said to her, yeah maybe you should leave! Then on the way out the door she had to get in one last dig and said to my Dad, in a loud voice - 'How ridiculous, they should just let the baby cry!' What a B***H!
Finally managed to feed Sam at 10.30pm with much difficulty and then she wouldn't feed again until 8am this morning. Poor wee thing! I felt so bad for her, she must have been half starved! The good news is that she has had two decent feeds this morning - so now her
mummy can stop worrying about her :)
Anyway, after my book, long story short my Grandmother is no longer welcome in my house! Probably a good thing as she will be really angry at me for not letting her hold Sam anyway.

Oh Julie, I meant to say I am having lots of trouble with the fit of clothing. We were so worried that Sam wouldn't fit in to the newborn with her predicted birth weight being much more than she was that we had more 0-3 mth than newborn anyway. She only fits about 3 things in the newborn stuff and everything else is huge on her.
Still she had only lost 60 grams since birth when she was weighed last night, so hopefully she will fit into all the other stuff soonish. Not that I really want her to get any bigger. It would be nice if she would stay this little and adorable for a bit longer

Im sorry to hear you had a bad night but at least Sam is feeding now. Your Grandmother sounds like an absolute nightmare, doesnt sound like she deserved a cuddle anyway. Glad to know you DH was there to help out though.
I know about the whole engorged thing and how hard it can be to try get them to latch at that point though, and it is so frustrating and you feel so bad, but at least it gets better when they start to soften a bit. I find it sometimes helps to squeeze a bit of milk off to try soften it enough for them to latch.
Well Caleb has just had his 3 week visit from the midwife and has put on 400 gms in the past week. I knew he was being a guts and has grown 4 cm since he was born. He seems to have this chubby face and then all the rest of his weight has gone into his length.
We had stocked up on 0-3 month stuff too expecting a baby of about 8 lbs so there is heaps to grow into and my mum had to rush out and try find him some more clothes to wear in small 0000 size. I totally agree about them staying small and cute though, they just seem to grow so fast. I want him to stay small and cute forever, pretty soon I wont be able to fit him on my chest while I type anymore.

Ahhh, what a great night we just had. 7 whole hours sleep. OK so not all at once, but 5 in one go which is fantastic and much needed after the previous nights dramas.
Had a really hot shower yesterday and found it relieved the engorgement really well too. May have to spend quite a bit of time in there until DH goes back to work in a couple more weeks.
Still waiting patiently for the swelling in my legs/feet to go away after the syntocin. When I weighed myself a couple of days after the birth I still weighed the same as I did before. That is how swollen everything is.

I am so jealous that Sam slept 5 hours in one go. Mind you we did have a better night last night back to 3 hour sleeps again, YAY although we still had oiur issues at his feed at 3.30 am. I really dont know why that is his worst time, my midwife suggested maybe he was gutsing out a bit much at that time and there was fattier milk so was taking in more air making him gassy. Whatever it is I hope it sorts itself out soon.
Stupid weather yesterday meant Caleb had to wear sposies half the day Not that he enjoyed them either. He actually seems to last less time in sposies then in his cloth nappies. Maybe it is just the brand but they are not lasting longer for us then his pre-folds, I guess he just pees too much for the sposie.
At least the washing should get dry today given it is sunny, and i really need to clean the house as my MIL comes back tomorrow. Of course I could try leaving it a mess and see if she wants to clean it up for me
I still havent been quite game enough to weigh myself yet, might try it next time I go down to mum's

Funny that they seem to have a certain time of the day when they are worse. Sam's hardest feed time is late evening, I find it really hard to get her on and both of us end up a bit flustered by the time we manage it!
My wee girl is such a guts, she will get part way through the feed and without even letting go will let out the most almighty burbs DH heard one yesterday and cracked up. Such a ladylike little thing...not
We are still using sposies at this stage, but I don't like them at all, we have nearly had leaks already and she isn't even a week old! I have ordered all my fuzzi's now but they won't come for 4-6 weeks so we will just have to wait until then. Oh and I only ordered 6 small fuzzi's so she will only be in them part time anyway to start. Can't wait though :)
DH cleaned the house yesterday which was great! I am loving having him at home. He and Sam are KO'd on the chair in the lounge at the mo. So cute. I caught them dozing on Tuesday in exact positions (caught it on camera too). She is definitley her daddys daughter

I just read your birth story, sounds like you had a bit of a rough time, glad to hear you didnt end up having the episotomy though. I bet Sam makes up for it all though. I know that I was in heaps of pain during the transistion period and wanted to give up but after having Caleb, I dont really remember it at all and just holding him for the first time made up for the pain.
LOL about the burping, I havent heard of that before, maybe she is scared you are going to take it away if she lets go, at least she should put on a fair amount of weight though. Exciting about the fuzzis though, they are so cute what colours did you get?
|
Posted By: Mama2two

That was the hardest decision I ever had to make (the colour of fuzzis I mean) so I decided there was no point really making it and got 1 of all of them plus an extra bubblegum and Sage. For the small size I got all the pastel colours plus a red for my BIL's wedding in August :)
It's funny that my birth story does sound rough, but no where near what you went through, and in all honesty I don't really remember it being that bad at the time. Sounds worse than it was obviously

Skyflame, know what you mean about wanting to give up in the transition phase. I was all set to get any and all kinds of pain relief, and then the midwife checked and said I was 8-9cm! I was SO relieved (and didn't really believe her at first).
And having him out and put onto my tummy was just the best thing!!
My wee man is still guzzling away like mad, but today spewed back up SOOOOOO much of his feed! Then after changing him (and me) and waiting a while, I fed him again, and it happened AGAIN. Then fed him again (because he was so obviously still hungry), and it seems to have stayed down now. Recently he's been spitting back up a little bit after most feeds, but this was crazy.
He's having a good sleep now. Think I might go do the same... YAWN!

Sleep? Not sure what that is anymore. My own bed is now a stranger too me and I seem to spend more time napping with Sam in my lazy boy than anywhere else!
We have managed to figure out pretty quick after my milk came in that if we lie her on her back for about 5 minutes after a feed and then burp her nothing comes back up. Learnt the hard way though!
Had my midwife come yesterday. Sam had gained 320 grams since Tuesday and is now 7 pounds 5 ounces. My midwife was amazed and said normally it takes babies a week or two to get back to their birth weights let alone pass them! What a clever baby :)
Guess that answers any concerns I had about whether I would be able to breastfeed her

Hehe, it does make you feel good to know they are growing well, huh?
How are you finding the breastfeeding? Any soreness? I think Anton's latching well, and obviously he's growing well, but in between feeds my nipples can be a bit tender (doesn't hurt to feed or anything, except maybe a couple of seconds when he gets properly attached). Don't know if the nipples are just getting used to their new job or what!
I think part of the spewing might be Anton getting used to my flow or something - he came off the boob mid feed today and milk was going EVERYWHERE!! But he's been keeping most of it down now (a few dribbly bits, but I haven't had to change my clothes or his today - good progress!). Might have to try lying him on his back for a bit though - thanks.

The breast feeding it harder than I thought it would be. We have times where she latch's on immediately and other times it seems to take up to 30 minutes. I feel so completely useless most of the time, but just take a deep breath and try again. I know she is positioned correctly, so it gets frustrating for both of us
The first week was hell. Sam managed to graze both nipples so everytime I put her on it was awful (brings tears to the eyes just thinking about it), but we seem to have the hang of it (once she is on that is) now and they have healed so it doesn't hurt anymore.
Scary at the beginning though isn't it. I don't know quite what I expected, but I hadn't expected it to hurt quite so much!
The flow is insane! Sam ends up with milk all over her face, hands, neck and I end up with it soaking my clothes half the time. I guess we will get used to it eventually though. If Sam would get on the nipple faster it would be a whole lot less messy, but she likes to muck around for ages!
Had a power poo explosion to clean up this morning DH was half way through changing her when a whole lot more came flying out. We were both trying to then change her in hysterics. Thinking about getting an industrial strength full length apron now
I just can't wait for her fuzzibunz to come. I hate the disposables. They leave big marks on her and I feel really bad cause it can't be comfortable!

Have to love those explosions, all you can really do is laugh though.
I have the fast flow happening with my milk to and if he pulls off cause he cant drink fast enough I leak all over myself and him.
We had an awful night last night. He was fine until 1 am then would not go to sleep until 4.30. He then woke up every hour to eat until 7.30 when DH woke up and took him out of the room so I could get 2 hours sleep, the most I had all night. Didnt help that I didnt get to sleep until midnight due to a messed up tummy and nasty headache.
I am finding it really hard to have the MIL here, I know she is trying to help but it is hard having someone in your space 24hrs a day, and makes me really self concious. At least there is under a week to go, roll on saturday morning. Im also worried that if I dont manage to get some sleep soon I am headed for a bit of a melt down, which cant be a good thing.

I think you are doing really well with your MIL there. I would be going nuts. Infact mine is due to come around tomorrow for a few hours and that is plenty! On the bright side she brought us a bacon & egg pie last week so fingers crossed she does something like that again
Seriously though, I can't even imagine, my grandmother & dad were here for a couple of hours earlier in the week and I ended having a small breakdown and just wanted them to go away. Only a couple more days to go though, just keep reminding yourself.
I don't know how I am coping on so little sleep at the moment. Last night I got around 2 hours of good sleep and then ended up taking madam to bed with me for an hour or so (not sleeping) cause she just wouldn't settle in her room! After the 4.30am feed I gave up and we both feel asleep together on the lazyboy. Hey, better than nothing I guess! I do miss my bed though

Only 5 days to go, I am hoping I can try spend some time out of the house and alot of time sleeping to get through it faster. Hopefully your MIL doesnt cause you too much stress today Sterryn.
I had a good night last night, I actually feel a bit more human today. DH made a decree last night that I was not to get up to Caleb when he cried but if he didnt move to wake him up and go back to sleep until it was time to feed him. So he got up and changed him and settled him then give him to me to feed then put back in bed.
We also gave him a bath last night which might have relaxed him more so might have to start bathing him every night, becuase he didnt seem to have bad gas last night and only woke twice between 11 and 6 with long long awake period. YAY.
DH was the lovely recipent of baby spew this morning, really was quite amusing as he had given me a couple of good burps after I feed him but was still a bit grizzly, so DH was cuddling him on his chest while he lay in bed and then got a bit of a surprise. It was so hard not to sit and laugh at him.
How was Anton over the weekend Jo?
I hope both Anton and Sam had good nights last night.

We had a great night last night. Madam actually managed to settle in her own bed and slept from 2am to 6am. I know it doesn't sound like much, but 4 whole hours sleep, I felt like a new person :)
Samantha is sitting with DH at the moment, every night between 10-12ish she has her witching hour(s) and misses a sleep between feeds. It is nice though, she is very alert and it is cool to sit there and play with her a little bit.
Less feeding issues today, but we did have a major sposie malfunction this morning. It all managed to come out the top front. I have never seen poo go so far.

Sposie malfunctions do not sound good at all.
Well Caleb was one month yesterday and is now weighing 8 lb 4 oz more than 2 pounds over his birth weight. I was feeling really caged in with MIL here and almost like she was trying to take control of my baby so escaped for the afternoon. I ended up buying him more clothes whoops, I was meant to be waiting until next week to buy him more stuff. Oh well.
Also ended up going into work so he got lots of cuddles too.
Sleeping has been messed up for the last week as he has not wanted to sleep during the day and so MIL will hold him to get him to sleep and keep holding the entire time he is sleeping instead of putting him in his bed. It has been messing him up as he doesnt seem to want to sleep now without being held. We are going to start stomping on that for the last couple of days she is here. Only 2 days to go, roll on Saturday.

Hi all,
Yay another little girl on the thread with all these boys :)
I totally agree that we should make this a April/May mums thread. There don't seem to be many of us do there! Hopefully it won't be long until Charlotte & Renee join us as well
Julie, only 2 days an counting until you have your house back! You are doing well chick, keep your chin up
Little Miss Samantha is getting leg Chub It is so cute. Was weighed yesterday and has put on heaps of weight. She is now 7 Pounds 13 Ounces, so has put on nearly 500 grams since birth. She is an absolute dream to look after though, even my midwife keeps commenting on how calm she alway is. Still my personality is the same, so hopefully she stays this way. She did really well last night. Slept in her own bed from 12-3.30am and then from 4.30 to 8am. This makes for a very happy Mommy
I just can't believe she is nearly 2 weeks old. I feel like it has gone so fast, and at the same time can't remember a time when she wasn't here!
I have just recieved my cheeky wipes in the post, so no more Huggies Wipes. We have only been using them for a day now and Sam's little bottom looks so much better. It was getting quite red and sore looking from all the wiping with the huggies and is now back to normal. Funny because I never ever imagined using cloth nappies or reusable wipes, but here I am Can't wait for my Fuzzi's to arrive. 3-5 Weeks and counting
Edited due to my very bad england!

Hi mums!
Well, Anton's sleping is all over the place really. Last night was GREAT, with a big sleep from about 9.30 or so to 3am! Then after a nice feed and nappy change etc, back to sleep till 7.30. So today I'm feeling pretty good. Yesterday was a whole other story though... Not so good.
Had another weigh in with the midwife yesterday, and he's put on another 250g, so YAY!!
He's still spewing a bit (midwife thinks he just drinks too fast), and leaks through a few nappies - think he might be heading towards needing the next size, even though they are supposed to go up to 5kg (he's 4.25kg).
Sterryn, where are Cheeky Wipes from?? What are they made of? (sorry if I missed a post about them earlier??)

You didn't miss a post Jo. I found these advertised in a magazine. cheekywipes.co.nz. They are basically a pail full of little flannels and some tea tree oil. I figure since we are going to be washing nappies we might as well wash some flannels at the same time
Great nights sleep last night for you by the sounds of things. Lucky thing
Miss Samantha is going through a growth spurt I think. She has been up for a feed every 2 hours since last night! She is really unsettled today as well, finally asleep on me at the moment.
Poor little thing, her little belly button has been bleeding too, I think her nappy might be rubbing. Has anybody else had this problem?

I might put a little plaster over her belly button after her bath today and see if that helps. Poor little thing
Well Sam is now completely KO'd, but if I try and put her down she wakes up. I guess I am not going to get alot done today The last feed was huge so hopefully she won't wake for a few more hours. I am thinking a nap on the lazyboy is sounding good. DH is out doing the grocery shopping at the mo, so nothing to disturb either of us

Ahh the fun of growth spurts. Caleb had one at 2 weeks too and would want to feed almost every hour on the hour. I think we might be having another one now as he wont go to bed and I have to feed him every 1-2 hours. Of course he could just be being a naughty monkey. Less then 24 hours now, I'm not counting down or anything I can tell you it has been a long week.
I got Emma to change the thread title too so now our May mummies can join us too.
Cant say I remember any bleeding from the belly button except when the stump was coming away. That bleed a little and smelt too but since then has been fine although his belly button still sticks out, makes me wonder if it will stay that way.
Caleb had a good 4 hour sleep last night so managed to get 3 hours uninterrupted. Was hoping it would continue but went back to his 2 and 3 hours again Oh well maybe soon he will start to sleep longer. Would be a nice mothers day pressie.
We have been using cloth wipes too and isnt any extra work as I just throw all the nappies and wipes in together and we just keep a container of water with all the nappy changing gear for wetting them.

"Yawn". Long night last night. Miss thing was up hourly for feeds until 4.30am, finally went down and then was up again at 7.45 for another one! She is now crashed on my shoulder while I type. I think today is a bath day after this mornings power chuck episode, she is starting to smell
Her belly button has stopped bleeding, I am definitley putting it down to the sposies rubbing against it. Horrible things!
Question, are everybody elses babies as noisy when they are asleep. Sam squeals, grunt, groans, moans etc etc. I have gotten up so many times during the nights thinking she is awake to find her still completely KO'd. It is quiet comical really
So Julie, today is the day. I bet it will be good to get back to some sort of normal.
It is such a horrible rainy day here today. We were going to take Sam for a walk to start getting her used to her pram, but I guess it is an inside day now!

Seems like the night for disturbed sleeps... Anton was up till midnight, then up every couple of hours or so through the night, then today just really grizzly and hungry, and I eventually had to put him in the front pack just to get a couple of things done. He's finally asleep now (he's in bed with the pouch for the front pack still on - couldn't bear to wake him up to get it off).
Oh, and every day's a bath day here - we should have called him Chuckie with all the spewing he does.
Yep, he's a noisy sleeper too. Sounds like a wheezy old man, I reckon. And lots of snorts and grunts.

Yay I am freeeee, and it feels so good. I am enjoying the freedom and went out for lunch with a couple of friends which was nice, but so much better to come home to a house that is quiet and I can do as I please when I please, again.
Caleb had an unsettled night too, feed every hour sometimes every half hour I am thinking it might be another growth spurt.
He is a noisy sleeper too and even snores sometimes, along with the grunts and snorts and various other noises.
We arent having as much vomit these days (fingers crossed) but seem to be exploding out the other end continually, thankfully we haven't had any leaks with his prefold wraps, poo on the wraps yes, but on the clothes No. Wahoo.
We are going to start bathing him every night next week since we are alone again to try get him into a nightly routine. Here is hoping it works.
Anyone have plans for their mothers day? We are having dinner at my mums place, but DH is going to make me brekkie in bed in the morning, which will be nice. I also got my pressie early as DH thought i would find it if he tried to hide it.
Hope you all have a good day tomorrow with the new bubba's.

Congrats on your little girls Gwen, they look like they are little cuties.
Welcome to Oh baby and our April mums thread, Im Julie and I had a little boy named Caleb on the 11th of April.
I can imagine you have quite a handful with two babies, I feel busy enough with one, but I hope that every thing is going well and that you are having a good mothers day.
I cant believe it I actually got a couple of good sections of sleep last night, no where near the 6 hours you guys have got some nights but good for Caleb.
He went to sleep at 9.30 last night after still feeding every hour before that and slept through until 1 am then back to sleep with 30 mins then up again at 5 am back down again within 30 mins then woke up again at 7.30. I cant believe I only had to get up to him twice before 7am. It was a great Mothers day present from my boy to go along with the pretty sparklies I got as well.
DH was also good and made me brekkie in bed this morning and then put the nappies on to wash. YAY, nice relaxy morning and it felt good to wake up and know that there was no MIL in the house too, so much less crazy.
I hope that you all had a good night and that you are having a good Mothers day.

Welcome Gwen, nice to see another April/May mum to join us :) My name is Sterryn and my daughter Samantha was born on 27th April.
The card you got from your DH & girls is just beautiful. You lucky thing. I bet you deserve it, two must be a real handful. I love their names
We had a nice mothers day. DH made me brownies (which were really good). I would like to say I got breakfast in bed, but didn't get to see much of bed last night with Miss Samantha still feeding about every 2 hours. But he has made me breakfast, lunch and dinner for the past 2 weeks so that makes up for it
I gave up last night and ended up giving Sam some gripe water. It seemed to work, especially on her little upset tummy. Apparently me eating Tartare sauce does not agree with her
Julie, how many nappies do you have? I have ordered 6 fuzzi's, plus I have a snazzi all in one. I am thinking I will have to order a few more, but want to try and get away with as few a possible in the small size. Do you do a wash everyday? I am having to do a load of wipes everyday at this stage anyway so wouldn't make a difference to me. Gonna order some more tomorrow!
Renee, I hope Sam stays put and doesn't cause you anymore trouble before you get a date for the C-Section next week. Just think, this time next week you will be a mummy
Well I have just be offered a brownie, so off I go.....

I am glad everyone had a good Mothers day, sorry to hear Sam was not so good on the sleeping front. Sounds like a growth spurt to me. Caleb has just done another one and has gotten longer I am sure.
We use Weleda colic powder for when Caleb has a really sore tummy and just dip a wet finger in it and let him suck it off. It seems to be working quite well.
We have 24 prefolds and 6 bummi wraps, I am waiting for my small tweedle and inserts so i can start using that and my fuzzi at night, hopefully encouraging longer sleeps.
Gwen the card you got sounds absolutely lovely, I can understand why it brought tears to the eyes.
We had a good night last night, although he was grissly at mums. think he was a bit over tired though. Went to sleep at 11pm then slept through until 2am when DH feed him so I could sleep. Then woke up again at 6.30 and 8.15 this morning, so we have been up since the second one. But yay long sleeps. Dh is going to continue doing the feed in early hours with expressed milk for a while as he has just switched to a 1am til 9am shift to cover the US office, which works in nicely for me.
We are about to start getting Caleb in a routinetonight with bath and bedtime so hopefully we have some luck, although he has been more settled since MIL left, maybe he is just less stressed now that I am less stressed.
Renee this week you get to see your Sam, are you excited?

Oops realised I forgot to say that I wash everyday usually end up with 12-13 prefolds and about half my wipes in the wash at the moment, not sure if you would need to wash less often with Sam in the fuzzi's or not. They absorb more with more stuffing so I have no idea, but I will look forward to hearing how they go when you get them though Sterryn.
I could be wrong, but I also think that he is starting to pee less often, just in higher volume as I am sure in the first few weeks I was hanging out more then 12.
YAY my tweedle package just arrived and now they are in the wash even though I had just finished putting the other washing on the line. I am hoping to use it tonight and then buy more next week. We will see though how much I spend on Friday or at the weekend as Mum and I are going shopping for Roo on Friday and then to the Hamilton Child and Parent show this weekend, so could end up being an expensive weekend
Oh well its all good, and how can I resist all the cute clothes and nappies, DH has taken to rolling his eyes at me especialy since I seem to be on Trade me every 5 mins looking for more stuff to buy. I really need to do something else when Caleb is sleeping.

Bugger, just typed a whole post and then lost it by pressing the wrong button
Thanks for that Skyflame, I am hoping to get away with 10-12 small fuzzis. I also have a bummi wrap, 2 x prefolds and a snazzi all in one. I just don't want to buy too many in the smaller size since who knows how long they will fit her In saying that I don't think she is going to be he biggest child, she seems awfully small so they may fit her for quite a while!
I had bought a little outfit for her from Pumpkin Patch for a wedding in August in the 0-3 mth range but I have a funny feeling she is not going to fit it by then. It is huge in comparison to her! Their sizing seems to be reasonably generous.
So where are you going shopping? I am dangerous with money when it comes to nappies and clothes for Sam as well. My DH does the same eye roll I think
We have actually only left the house once since bringing Sam home and that was for a walk around the neighbourhood. We are going to venture out tomorrow or Wednesday and take Sam to my work before I get in lots of trouble with my workmates. I want to do it before DH goes back to work. I have been putting it off because it is a bit of a drive from where we live!
I hadn't heard about the Colic powder. Sounds good though. The other thing we have been recommended is Infacol, but I think they have to be 4 weeks before you can use it. She loves the Gripe water though. I think it smells awful, but hey breast milk can't be that great either

Welcome Gwen your daughters are beautiful!
Sterryn - I use gripe water for Kaleb - he gets really bad wind but he will only take it if I put it into his bottle. I am still expressing, giving this to Kaleb then top him up with formula. NOw that I've finished the domperidone medication my milk supply has dropped back again so he gets mostly formula but I am going to speak to my MW tomorrow and see if I can get another script. Finding it really tough going though feeding, winding, trying to get him to settle and then express before having to start all over again - hardly any time to eat or shower let alone get any housework done!
Went to the plunket family centre the other day for some help with his sleeping and wouldn't you know he went down straight away while we were there - AARGH! Didn't really give a true picture of what he's like at home. They thought he might have reflux so guess I'll speak to mw about that too - any of your babies have this?
Also, anyone else have a baby who doesn't settle much when you go out anywhere?

Faraway I am sorry to hear that you are having reflux problems, we havent had any ourselves that I am aware of but one of the girls in my antenatal group is having a horrible time with it. The expressing for every feed sounds very hard too, I really admire you for wanting to keep it up.
I am hoping the small sizes will fit until 6 months given that he is so small but who knows. I was all excited about putting him in his new tweedle nappy last night, but his thighs are too skinny and it gaped so took it back off. I was so gutted I suppose I could try it with a second prefold in it too. And my tweedle is smaller than my fuzzi so hopefully Sam will have fattened up enough when her fuzzis arrive.
We are going to go all over the place shopping. We are going to the snazzipants store and pumkin patch outlet and probably any other baby store we see or go past. We are also going to be material shopping too so I can make a few things for him.
I have found that the patch stuff seems really large too but not sure. I showed DH a pair of pants I bought that are 0-3 months and he told me they were huge and there was no way he would fit them by 3 months so I guess it will be a wait and see thing. Hopefully Sam fits her outfit by the wedding, what did you get her? There are so gorgy outfits out there for girls.

Faraway, that really sucks that Kaleb might be having reflux problems. It sounds like you are doing really well to keep up the expressing. Good on you, alot of people would have given up by now! Have you thought about starting a new topic in this forum asking about it? I know others must be having or had similar problems. I am fairly sure there is a website out there as well that can tell you all the symptoms of reflux. Sorry I can't remember it, but will try and find out for you.
Well maybe I was wrong about whether Sam will fit into her outfit. We had a visit from the midwife this morning and she has put on 11 oz in less than a week and is now 8 pds 9 oz or 3.88 kgs. Crikey! Apparently I was right about the growth spurt!
She has pretty chubby little legs now so hopefully the fuzzi's will fit her. I have a couple coming in the next few days so we will see I guess. Fingers crossed, i can't wait to start using them. Aren't we sad getting so excited about nappy mail
I got her a gorgy outfit alright. In red just to spite my MIL who told me she was going to be a red head and we weren't allowed to buy anything in red!
She has the cutest little red/black russian style skirt with matching red long sleeve t-shirt and jacket. I figure she will fit it a some stage though so if we have to buy her something else for the wedding that is ok with me

For some info on reflux, you might want to have a look at http://www.cryingoverspiltmilk.co.nz - THIS LINK
I've been wondering whether Anton might have reflux too. Will just wait and see how he goes and talk to my midwife next time.
Aw, that outfit sounds lovely, Sterryn! Boys clothes aren't quite so adorable in general, I reckon. Although we were given the cutest little knitted vest the other day which I think will be so cute when he fits it. We have been given SOOOOO much stuff in the 3 month range!
Whew, had a busy day today - went for a walk down to the shops, which was about a 90 minute round trip. Anton slept pretty much the whole time, then woke up for a feed when we got home, and went back to bed very soon after that (not really any time to play . Today has probably been the best one for day sleeps we've had so far!! (touch wood)

Well my bubba does seem to want to let me sleep for more than 4 hours at a time, which in some ways is fine because it is so much nicer to get 4 hours then 2.
Dh has grabbed Caleb last couple of nights for his late night feed and fed him fine, but then Caleb gets all grumpy and wont go back to sleep. The first night he guts his whole bottle so we didn't think he had enough to eat so unfortunatly I had to wake up to top him up so yesterday I expressed more. Last night DH came and got him and he guzzled the entire 120 mls then proceeded to spit some back up then get grumpy, but as soon as I started cuddling him in bed he was quiet. Little monkey.
Oh well he has been pretty good today with his naps, which lets DH get some sleep unlike yesterday when he was really grissly and had to take him out of the house for several hours. I am wondering if he has a touch of a bug as DH has been feeling unwell for the last few days too.
Well plunket was meant to be contacting me last week to organise a visit and to weigh Caleb but I have not heard from them at all so am not impressed so I dont know how much my bubba has put on this week. It is such a pain too as I know he has gone through another growth spurt, oh well midwife comes for last visit on Wednesday so will see then.
At the moment I am trying to organise everything I will need to take with us tomorrow. It is our first full day away from home with Caleb and I have no idea what I will actually need so it could be a very interesting day. I just really hope he behaves himself, and sleeps well tonight.
How has the week been for everyone else?

I don't know Littlejo, the boys stuff at pumpkin patch is pretty cute too. I sometimes think it would be easier to have a more limited selection. I can see my PP addiction getting expensive in the future. Between that and fuzzi's we could end up very broke!
Sam has a max of about 3 to 3.5 hours sleep between feeds at this stage, but even that is great when it happens. The worst times are 5 in the morning when she has been fed and changed and I want to put her back to bed, but she decides she is awake!
Have you started the night routine with the baths Skyflame? Just wondering how that is going?
I only have one more visit from my midwife which is tomorrow and then we are being referred to Plunket because Sam is doing so well. I don't want a Plunket nurse. I love my midwife. She has said she would like to stay in touch as friends now though, so atleast I won't lose her completely. It has been so nice having someone near in age in that respect.
We had our first excursion with Sam yesterday. Took her to my work to show her off. She was a perfect angel. We paid for it last night though when she wouldn't settle. Took a truckload of stuff and needed none of it! Typical!
We are going to start to introduce a bottle in the next day or so too, it will be great for DH to be able to give Sam a bottle at night. It's funny though, I always said we would, and know it is logicAL to do it, but part of me doesn't want too
Hope tomorrow goes well Skyflame.

hi girls, thought I should hurry on up and come over from the due May to the May baby board so here I am and hello to all.
Those who don't know me, I now have 2 wonderful children, Cailin is coming up 2 and Jeremy is now 5 days old. He was overdue by 8 days and arrived on Mothers Day.
So far so good, last night though Jeremy got me up at 3 and we haven't been back to bed yet! He settled at about 6.45 and then DD was up at 7! Oh dear...

Oh, Spudling, sounds like it will be a long day for you!! YAWN!!
Congratulations on your new baby boy though! What a lovelt Mother's Day pressie (although I'm sure not all fun and games at the time...).
Sterryn, I know what you mean about giving a bottle - I always said we'd do that too, but haven't managed to bring myself to actually do it yet. It's still early days though really.
I've got my midwife coming today too, and I'm sure she's going to tell me she's deserting me soon! Hope today's not the last one, as we want to give her something, and haven't got it yet!

Yay Spudling, nice to see you and Jeremy are here :) Now we are just missing Eomachine
Well we had our last official midwife visit today
Sam is three weeks old and is now 9 Pounds 1 ounce or 4.1 kgs. She had put on 8 ounces in the past 3 days! She doesn't look that big though! I hope the weight gains slow down at some stage though, otherwise she is going to turn into giganta baby!
She is miss grizzle guts tonight, very overtired after being up for most of last night!
We are in a battle of wills at the moment as she is in bed with the magic theatre on, but NOT sleeping! I am letting her have a good grizzle, and hopefully she will fall asleep soon!
Skyflame how did the full day out go? Hope you did lots of great shopping

Full day out was not too bad except I always forget how much longer it takes to do everything when you have a baby to look after as well. It also didnt help that Caleb wanted to feed every hour (another growth spurt I think) so there was a feed and change every stop. Didnt buy much just a few bits and pieces, mainly some fabric to make him some stuff, and had to refrain from buying a berry plush after feeling its fluffy goodness. Although I have decided I need one, I am trying to wait until he is in a medium nap. Now I just have to decide between the rainforest and firestorm colours I like. I wonder if DH would notice if I got 2.
Last night was not good either as he kept waking up every 1 1/2 - 2 hours which makes for a very tired mummy and daddy today. Still grizzly today and doesnt want to go into his bed, I think he is overtired.
On the plus side though he is now fitting his small fuzzi and tweedle so am managing to get through most of the night without having to change him. I had it stuffed with a microfibre insert and a newborn prefold, but picked up some hemp flats at Snazzipants and so tonight we are going for more padding to hopefully last longer (microfibre trifolded, microfibre/hemp insert and a hemp flat folded in four)
Have you fuzzis arrived yet Sterryn?
How has everyone else's weekends been?
Our last midwife visit is on wednesday, yours seem to have stopped quite soon Sterryn, Sam seems to be getting big now though. Renee will be able to join us soon since Sam is being evicted on Tuesday, I am looking forward to going and visiting them both when they feel up to it.
