Putting Alize to bed at night has turned into my worse nightmare. This is what has happened so far: Last night He screamed everytime I put him in his cot last night, so by 10.30pm I was like "thats it". I tucked him in and left him to it. He cried for about 15mins then went to sleep. Once asleep I went and gave him a kiss and snuggle. I just felt awful for having to let him cry it out. Tonight Well the same happened tonight. Alize went to bed fine no major dramas Please all you OhBaby mums if you have any advice on what I could do, try etc with getting Alize to bed without us both being in tears would be great thanks. I really just hate to hear him scream then wimper as hes going off to sleep.

Was asleep for about an hour and then started screaming. I got him up to make sure he was ok, unblocked the nose, feed and burped him (he is still demand feeding so no set feeding times), checked nappy and all was well. He fell asleep on me so I went to tuck him..........AND IT BEGAN

Kels, not that this is going to much of a comfort for you at the time that he is screaming, Anastasia went thru the same stage, I think they just try to test us and see if we will cave in and rock them to sleep and yes the more I used to try and comfort her the more desperate she sounded and yes after a few nights she did get better again but even now we have some nights like that .... at least now I can try and talk to her and sometimes she can tell me if she wants something in particular.

I know its hard to leave them cry like that...but most ppl i have spoken to said it will only last another couple of nights then he should just settle down....in a way its good as its teaching him how to self settle...unfortuatley its just not good for the nerves. Kels I'm concerned that he started screaming after he had already been asleep. Can you talk to your GP about him? I would be keen to rule out silent reflux - Briona had that but she was 10-12 weeks before it was discovered.
Once you have that ruled out, it seems like he's being stubborn. If so, the crying it out should work with time. Have you tried a baby sling? I can't vouch for them but I've heard a lot of good things about them. Will he settle if you walk him around the house? Otherwise the only other thing I can think of is a dummy. -------------  |

I'd say chat to your GP too, just to rule out any medical probs like reflux, wind pain etc.
If there's nothing wrong with him, then it's a behaviour thing and I guess how you 'fix' it so to speak depends on what you are comfortable with. For me, with Maya when she went thru a similar stage (she was a bit older than Alize tho) I left her to get on with it. It took 3 nights of screaming, the first for more than two hours, but she eventually got the message and we never had any more problems (until she turned 4 and started battling bedtime  ).
The other alternative, if you don't agree with the whole CIO thing is like Teresa suggested - try a baby sling or rocking him to get him to sleep and then putting him down. If his cot has wheels you could always stand at the end where he can't see you and rock the cot (have done that with the gremlins before now!). Thanks ladies for the advice/support. I guess I was worried that he was too young to do the CIO at his age. I did it with Mercedes but she was 9mths at the time and like Maya she screamed for hours the 1st night. Emma and Teresa he has reflux diagnosed when he was 6wks and still on meds. I have a sling and find it fab. Its not the getting him to sleep that I am battling, its when I put him in his cot (asleep) all hell breaks loose GandT I did wonder about the ear thing as when they have ear or headaches, it can feel worse to lay down and night time. His cot mattress is raised for his reflux so hes not lying flat. Otherwise he is well, no fever, happy during the day, nose still abit stuffy but hes getting over a cold. I have decided that I will see how tonight goes and may take him to get ears checked tomorrow "just incase" On the plus side (if there is such a thing) he has dropped his 5am feed and sleeping thru till 6-7am. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

With him having a cold prehaps GandT is correct and it could well be his ears and the nose, throat and ears are all connected. So why not take him to the Dr (at least its free) and elminate that.

I have book an appt for tomorrow morning, just to chk and make sure he is ok. We had appt last week as I was a bit concerned about his cold. He's much better this week but with all the bedtime dramas its best to get checked. Ann our doctors isnt free for anyone including babies. I hate the fact that we pay for babies etc, but in saying that they are open till 9pm weekdays, open weekends and some stat holidays. So I get to avoid the horrendous (sp?) afterhours dr fees. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Our Dr isn't free anymore (except newborn) either, its only $10 but it still bites!
Anastasia used to try the same trick, she would be asleep but as she felt me putting her down she would wake & start, she did get the message eventually ... we still have good & bad nights difference is now there is usually a reason for it rather than her just wanting to stay sleeping on me.
