Just thinking bout the thread on pushing...

When Andy was in Wellington for work one of the guys wives went into labour. The dad ended up missing the birth because from start to finish the WHOLE labour was TWELVE minutes!

Lol, my school nurse (when I was in highschool) was similar, in that she felt no contraction pains. She thinks her waters broke when she went swimming in her pool, so didn't notice it. The only reason she went to hospital was because she had a bit of vomiting - lied and said her contractions were about 5 minutes apart (she had had none according to her). They looked at her - she was just entering the final stage and was physically ready to push! And there was her bubs, just like that!

My aunt was a bit like that with one of my cousins ...she felt a bit blah, went to the toilet, went to wipe, and there was a head! ARGH! Apparently she JUST made it to the bed before my cousin popped out. Yikes.

Oh how nice that would be not to feel contractions! Although having a baby that quick isn't so good for the body I hear... VERY bad after pains. But who doesn't have bad after pains?? Gee... I almost forgot about the after pains...

OMG after pains with Josh were so much worse than with Andrew (but they say number 2 and onwards are worse). Contractions of the uterus moving back and shrinking are the after pains Bel.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

You're right, after pains worsen after your first, and I'm on to my 3rd! Bring on the pain killers! And they usually come on while your breastfeeding, so you're sitting there, trying to feed your babe, whilst squiggling around in pain. Some can last a while too!! I was almost in tears from them... sorry first timers!!

Well color me jealous! I thought I was lucky with a 6 hour labour with the gremlins (after a 41 hour mammoth session with Maya).

Funnily enough the after pains for me were worse with Maya than the gremlins, I expected them to be worse second time around especially as my uterus was twice the size having had to fit both of them. But they after pains did go on for longer, so maybe my uterus just contracted more slowly?

Yeah I know someone who had her baby in the toilet as well! It was her second (first labour was pretty standard) and she was feeling a bit funny, no contractions tho, went to the loo before going to the hospital for a check and hello - 2 pushes and he was out! She said not long afterwards that if thats what childbirth was like, she would have 10 kids!!

Oh and after pains

My mum had a 40 minute labour with me. I was just barely born in a hospital, it was very nearly the carpark apparently!

Here's hoping it's hereditary (but my OB says it's not).

My first mw had two pg's the second was twins. She woke up with broken waters, checked herself, was ready for push right away!

After pains for me were better this time around

My Mum had a pain free labour with my brother (he's 3 years younger than me) - wonder if its a hereditary thing and I can have a pain free one too (fingers and toes are crossed) !!

My mum had forceps delivery for me (same as I did with Haleigh although I was 2lbs smaller than Haleigh).
My sister was induction and mum was on her way to the toilet in the maternity home and out popped my sister with all of a few pushes, dad was gutted he missed the whole thing.

So Im kind hoping maybe number 2 for me will be as easy (without the induction though)

And i was worried about having a newborn baby, getting it to feed and sleep and all the other things that come with such a little bundle. Now ontop of that I have to bear through it all with 'after pains' LOL

Haha, what have I started with bringing up the "afterpains". But we all get through the labour, birth, cracked/bleeding nipples AND the afterpains. And its all worth it isn't it.
