We are now home and today went really well. She got there at 9 and she got her jabs at 11.15. We then stayed in for observation in the nursery room with a baby with a head injury and another with diabetes (made me realise how lucky we are!!)

She coped really well. She only got a 30 min nap when I was holding her but apart from that she had no reaction - YAY So here's hoping that next time we can just get it done at the doctors surgery.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and thoughts. I am so pleased today is over!

Hi Anna,
I know exactly how you feel as we have been through the same thing with Caitlin
Did they say which jab is causing/caused the reaction previously? For Caitlin it was the Pertussis (whooping cough) one, so in hospital (5mths jab) they gave her a different type of that jab and she was perfectly fine! No raised temp nada!
She's still "medium risk" though so all of her jabs are to be done in the hospital

Toni - We don't know a thing! We were never really given a reason for her previous reactions...

I must say though, that the nurses up there were sooo nice!! They were very understanding to the fact that the day was dragging out later and later into the morning and they did everything they could to hurry the doctor along. They offered us food, tea/coffee numerous times and were so kind to Brenna. So even though the public system can be frustrating, they are certianly not unkind.

maybe its the menzigistis one (oh please excuse my spelling) that she reacts to as the 5 month ones don't include that.

I'm glad it all went well for you. I know how annoying it is being at the hospital having jabs. I have to have my tetnus jabs done there as i've reacted to them before.

Hmmm... I think she did have another MensB jab cause she had 3 injections just like the last 2 times....

When Caitlin reacted to her jabs they (the GP nurse) recommended that they split the normal jabs and the MenzB jabs from then on (have them done a week apart), but she still reacted to the whooping cough one, just a slightly increased temp with the MenzB.

After our second trip to Starship, with no answers as to why she was burning up and not feeding, and after they wanted to do a "routine check" of catheta, bloods and a spinal tap to check for meningitus (she didn't have the tap done, I made them check for everything else first) they finally discovered that it was the whooping cough jab.

Get some answers now so that next time you and Brenna don't have to go through it all again. It might just be something simple like changing the type of jab
