Mine broke as I was going back to bed after my 3am toilet stop. Weirdest feeling - possible TMI - but at first I thought I hadn't quite finished going to the loo & was peeing myself!!

I was in bed when I felt mine pop I thought it was a really strange kick and then wondered if it was my waters so went to the toilet it started leaking a little then I had two big gushes then just went to leaking a little bit again. My midwife said to use a new born nappy instead of a pad cos it absorbs more she was right felt weird though.

I heard that if they break while youre in bed they can seriously stain your matress and so we should use something to protect the mattress. What do others know f this or think....whole idea freaks me out

Mine broke while I was on the toilet at 5am, it all gushed out and I was thinking " on my god.. it has started". Remember grabbing a towel, several towels and wrapping them around me, like huge nana pads, sounds gross, but wore the towels in my undies all day!!

My waters broke while I was talking to my best friend about being sick of being pregnant (was overdue at this stage), unfortunately for me I never went into labour naturally and ended up being induced (72 hours later ), I hated the feeling - it felt like I was constantly peeing myself .

Gosh I don't know if I'd bother with the matress protector thing, cause I don't like the crunchy feeling/sound, and it'd be there from probably 35 weeks through to maybe 41?
Anyway I had a hind water leak with Krystiana, I got up to go to the loo and it just kept trickling lol. But the waters with her (and Briona) actually needed to be artificially ruptured to progress my labours. With Hannah they popped of own accord after I was already in labour (in the hospital bath lol).

My first I heard the pop on the hospital bed (I was in as I was induced) it was kinda cool to hear it. Second my MW had to break them as he wasn't breaking them himslef and my MW wanted/needed him out of me.

Mine broke just as I was getting out of Andys car. Needless to say he was pleased it hadn't happened any earlier! Second time round the midwife did it.

My midwife had to break mine after Caleb was born as they didnt rupture on their own. He was born with his amniotic sac intact, which is meant to be good luck.

Apparently there isn't a high percentage that break before labour. Mostly they break during labour.
Mine broke as I was heading back from the bath (at the hospitale) to the room where I almost imediately started pushing. I had forgotten all about them! I remember thinking "oh yeah, my waters"!!

I had just folded all the washing & was popping clothes into draws in my bedroom, and as i shut the draw, i felt like i wet my pants.......... This happened on several occasions, over several days.
Most embarrassing was when 2 German tourist had checked into the backpacker late 1 night(i was night manager of hostel at that stage)& just after i greeted them at my front door, i felt the feeling & looked down, on the concrete beneath me was a big puddle lol (I was semi prepared with pad etc) but this time i may try the nappies idea

The first two were broken by the midwife during labour to get things going (which they sure did - both boys were born within an hour of the waters being broken) - and the third with the gigantababy, they broke as I was waddling down the hallway at 12.30am (after The West Wing had finished) to wake up the hubby to complain about still being pregnant and not in labour...ooops.

With Conor I was laying in the hospital bed after being induced, just heard and felt a pop sensation then wet knickers.
With Nyah I was in our bedroom and dad had just picked Conor up; I said to hubbie I needed to pee, stood up off the bed and whoosh out they came...all over me, my trackpants and the floor...

I had a friend whose waters broke with a big gush when she was in the queue at the Video Shop!!! She reckons at first she was mortified, with everyone staring etc, but then people started panicing that she was going to have the baby right there in the video shop - which she found really funny, and she just started laughing!!!
I guess it happens where / when it happens!!

I've been thinking about this too, glad to read that most peoples have either gone at home or in the hospital. With DD, it was during an internal exam a long way into labour and am hoping that this one will be sort of the same, I would hate them to break while I was out shopping...but then kind of funny at the same time

My MW is a photographer and mine broke when I was in her studio having pregancy photos taken.
I was standing in nothing but some organza wrapped around me and Brenna did a HUGE kick, then I thought I'd wet my pants and looked down and I was creating a big puddle all over her studio floor!!!
It was a great place to be - at my midwifes and she thought it was fab!. She took a photo when I was laughing because I thought I was peeing my pants

Wow, I've never heard of that happening before!
baysmum wrote:

At least when they go on their own, you know it was definitely supposed to happen then. The 'pop' feeling is still the same. (My mum describes it like a balloon inside you, full of water, suddenly bursting... I agree)

I had all three of mine broken. Maya's was at 4cm dilated after 36 hours of labour to speed things us and I remember it being really, really uncomfortable coz I felt really 'wet' down there like I was having a heavy period.
I was dreading it with the gremlins coz of the pain I had with Maya, but when the m/w broke Sienna's water it didn't hurt just came out in a gush and then I could feel it trickling out with each contraction.
I didn't feel Mercedes being broken at all, in fact I didn't even think about hers needing to be broken until Sienna was out and the OB said he was going to check Mercedes presentation, check the cord was clear and break her waters.

Mine broke when I went into hospital and my midwife was doing an internal. Lucky they did as she was about to send me home again as I was only 1cm but there was meconium in them so they had to keep me in.

in bed at 7am today...
Wasn't too messy - I woke up and raced to the loo (well, "raced" with my knees together, plus the usual pregnant waddle). Obviously had to wash my jammies, but the bed's comepletely dry! (TMI??)
SO now I'm just waiting for other things to happen...nothing yet!

The first time, I was walking down the street and they broke outside the neighbours house . Only part of the sac ruptured though and there wasn't a pop - just the trickle.
With Noah they broke at the hospital and there was definately a pop when they went.
