Ok me and hubbie have been arguing about our choice of names ( he hates all names as knew someone at school/work who had them etc etc!!) It took us months to settle on Ben last time which isn't tooo far out or exciting!!!
I am keen on the name Summer for a girl but he thinks its hippish and a bit cheesy but I think its pretty....
Is he right !!!!!!!

summer is great i liked it too but my sisters sister-in-law is summer so there is already a summer in our extended family and it might of been confusing for my neice and nephew.
i think it is very pretty and feminine

I think Summer is pretty but... I feel a bit funny giving season names, or month names, to my kids. So I'd be inclined to use it as a middle name I think.

sometimes it just takes a while for a name to click with both of you...
i have friends who have named thier kids kea and willow - and an old work mate named her daughter ocean.
so tell him summer isnt that bad.

No offence but I don't like it. If DH wanted to call our child Summer I wouldn't let him, but each to their own!

Names actually take a long time to grow on me, I keep having to write it down and saying it over and over in my head till I actually start to like it!
I think Summer is a very sweet girly name, probably not one I would choose to use, but I think of a lovely, inocent, warm personality when I hear the name Summer
Anyway just IMO!

I like Summer and Willow was on my shortlist but I kind of think the opposite. With both our kids names as soon as we heard them we both thought yep thats the one. We had ones we both liked, or one really like and the other thought was ok but then we heard these names and they clicked straight away.

I think you are both right. Summer is a lovely name, it is a little hippy I guess it depends on the baby.
I sometimes wonder whether what someones named influences what they do/become as adults.

One of my good friends is called Summer. She's not hippyish in the least! I think it's a nice name & quite suits her - especially with her blonde hair.

i like it! i think its very pretty. there was a 'summer' on the OC and she wasn't a hippy and the name actually grew on me from watching that programme.
names are hard though when you can't seem to agree on one.
we had settled on 'charlie or charli' but then DH changed his mind (for a girl) at 38wks.....i thought she was going to be a he so wasn't worried. after she was born they asked us her name and i just blurted it out before DH had a chance to say anything

DP had flatmates called Summer and Willow - sisters. Their parents were hippys, but the girls were lovely, very friendly and generous. I never thought their names sounded strange, they suited them

i like summer. and yep names take a while to grow on you, Ayja was the very bottom of our "possibly a middle name" list. but one by one the other names we really liked just didn't suit. and what do you know, one day i thought, hhhm, what about ayja nicole. told mike, and that was it.

It is not a name I would choose, but there is nothing wrong with it (other than associations I have with kids who have the name).

I like it I think it's a really pretty name but it is hard agreeing on names especially if you really like it and your DP/H doesn't.

We had heaps of trouble agreeing on names as well. I like Summer as a pretty wee girls' name, but I'm not too sure how that will "translate" to High court judge/nuclear scientist adult? Very pretty, though! (just my 2 cents worth, by the way!)

There was a Summer at Maya's playcentre and she was gorgeous, a stroppy wee thing but totally adorable. I like it as a name.
Maya's name just came to me and I instantly knew she was a Maya, Willie picked Mercedes and it was definitely a case of it growing on me coz to start with I said no way, no how was I naming my child after a truck. And Sienna's name came to me and I wrestled with it for ages coz I knew it would upset a certain person if I used it but in the end I had to have it, and it suits her.

It's not my cup of tea ...I like traditional names like Victoria, Isobel, Elizabeth, that sort of thing ...but having said that, it's such a happy, sunny name, if it's a name you love, and DH can come around to it, then go for gold!
At least you aren't calling her Spring ... That might be inviting trouble!!

Its interesting to see how names come in and out of fashion. I like Summer however depends on the child, a brunette Summer would seem odd. Unusual names for girls are a lot more common now, with traditional name less so. Does Summer go with your family name?

I'm with fattartsrock here, everytime I think of a name, I think of how they would respond to it and what it would sound like when they're teens, adults, if they come into very prestigious careers, when they're a granny?

he he. yeah, i keep just thinking back to Aja rock - my girl will sooo not be like that!
Paris i think goes well - no matter what, it sounds a bit stuck up sometimes, till you add her second name harmony.. then it all turns to fairy. lol

I vaguely remember a thread on another site's message boards about someone who'd named their child Summah Breezz. (Yes, with that spelling!) Heaps of other posters were snarking about the spelling and how it looked like the child's parents -- and later, the child -- couldn't spell. That's the only thing that bothers me!
April Ieremia's son is named Alexanda and they call him Xanda... Which is cool, but when I see it in print, I always think Alexanda looks like it's missing an R (AlexandRa)...
So the moral of the story is, be careful how you spell their name! :)
