Hi there ladies, just wondering how many of your kiddies are getting growing pains. Paris i am sure is getting them, more frequnetly this past week. especially first thing in the morning or after sleeps etc, she wakes up with sore legs.. At first i thought it was an excuse of some sort.. but i really actually think they are truely sore. Her legs are growing so long at an amazing rate right now. I massage her legs sometimes when she gets up if i have time in the mornings, which helps a little but she just looks so uncomfy and very grumpy lately too when they are annoying her.
what to do? is there anything i can do apart from the massaging them? ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

I used to get awful growing pains and my mum used to rub Tiger Balm onto my knees, it helped heaps. Maybe something like deep heat or linament oil?? Although I am unsure if that is ok for kiddies?? ------------- http://lilypie.com">

| You can get antiflamme from the chemist, or health shops anything with euchalyptis and peppermint in it will help. I wouldn't recommend deep heat on children, it can be too hot. Apart from massaging them i susspect this isn't much else you can do. Part of growing up. |

I used to get growing pains in my ankles when I was a pre-teen, I used to wrap them for support and stay off them as possible. I don't think there's much else you can do. My feet used to swell on really bad days (long walks), I'm not sure if legs do that but something to watch for. -------------  |

I'll ask Nigel tonight for you Janine. He (and the rest of his family) got the as they are all very very tall (as you well know). I'm not looking forward to Andrew getting them at all. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

Have you tried a wheatbag? This is what we used for the boys when they had them. When I used to get them I found panadol (obviously pamol for kids)used to take some of the ache away as well.
We have just had this really badly with Jayden and when we took him to the doctors they are quite concerned as apparently growing pains should only be between the joints and not in the joints. where as his is now his knees and they are investigating further. Poor Paris! I had awful growing pains as a kid, I used to cry they'd get so bad.
My Mum would massage them with tiger balm after a soak in the bath and if they still hurt panadol was the only thing that helped. Usually the soaking and massage was enough though. ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

| My DH got bad growing pains because he has sculeosus (SP??) in his legs so his hips are out by quite a bit and they wanted to give him an opp but said that he would still be buggered by 30 so they didnt do it. He still occasionally gets it. Our son also has a mild case of it in his skull and use to be in a bit of pain when he was a wee baby while his fontanelle (SP??) was closing as his head is out of shape. They never told us anything to relieve it but il ask DH if he did anything... |

BM, do you mean sclerosis or scoliosis perhaps? That is when the spine is curved and can put the alignment of the hips and legs off by a certain degree. I had to have surgery to correct it or I woud have died within 6months. I had a 63degree curve, and now have a 15degree curve. The Harrignton rods they put in saved my life. Other than the massaging you are doing now, I cant hink of anything except keeping warm over winter, they seem to play havoc over winter moreso than the other seasons. And I would imagine it will be a godd indication of them being tall in later life. Keep up the massages, you are a great Mummy for taking the time to do that, and maybe if she is old enough you could teach her to do it herself so it can be done even when you dont have time. yup bumblefoot its scoliosis sorry about the crap spelling! lol i spelt it how it came out of my mouth! lol
DH has a 30degree curve and because he never got it fixed his leg and foot tilt inwards and he walks with a slight limp but its not too noticable. With our son we firstly noticed his really mishapen skull and his bum crack (SORRY!!!  dont know what else to call it! lol) goes off on a curve!! but his spine seems to be not that bad just his skull really.

Xander has had growing pains in his shins off and on and we go down the pamol/nurofen road(due to his really high pitched painfull to listen to cry,which i am guessing he is in major pain).altho we have tricked him one night when we had run out of painkiller we gave his like 1-2 ml of dimetapp(norty i no but he settled back to sleep).it def sux cos theres not much u can do but yeah the other ladies have said it must be a sign of being tall later on(naths 6ft so yeah i no my 2 are already gonna be tall like him). ------------- BECS http://www.sparklee.com">
