Just wondering if anyone here has considered adoption? I know there is one lady who is getting a bub from China in a couple of months, and I look forward to her progress.

We have just contacted the adoption centre for more information, adnw as just wondering if anyone else had been thru the process.

We are pretty doubtful if our application would ever be acccepted, due to my health (which although very stable, not a plus side) and the fact we arent married (yet...)

Any comments appreciated, will keep updated, just curious as to what our chances are. We figure its better to know than not to try at  all, we shall see what they say.

We are still TTC, but feel we could do it in a more relaxed way if we adopt the first, and perhaps concieve the second. Two children would be a blessing, but one is our wish for now.

Keep wishing I suppose...

There is a fair bit of information on the EBB Infertility thread. One of the girls is going through the process at the moment. She got rebuffed for private adoption because of her DH's age though. I am sure she wouldn't mind you PMing her at all.

Hi I haven't been through adoption but I know one of the best places to start is the Open Home Foundation. Andie on this site used to work with them, but I'm not sure if she did the adoption side of things? Anyway I think adoption is a lovely way to go, my doctor and his wife started fostering and then adopting children because they are infertile... and now they have 8 of the most secure children I have ever met!

I dont know if I am much help but I am a birthmother and have an older child from an open adoption . My adoption is incredibly open and has worked out well for all parties. This was done privately in NZ but they were social welfare vetted. There is a website www.opan.org.nz which will give more info about private adoption. Your best best will be to contact CYFS who have links for adoption on their page. Sorry dont have any help about adopting from overseas.

Probably not much help for what you're asking just thought I would lend my support for going down this road if needed... I'm adopted myself and although it was a bit before 'open' adoptions I have met my birth mother and have quite a bit of contact with my birth father and think that I will seriously consider this option if it turns out DH and I can't have children biologically.

Well,

I got a reply from CYFs about our chances of adopting. Firstly we will have to wait until at least one of us is over 25yrs, as that is laid down in the rules. Also we must be married. As for my disability, they have to have reasonable assurance that I will be alive in 20yrs, and be able to care for a child during that period.

So it looks like we have a bit of a game plan. Keep TTC, and in the mean time Im looking for work so we can save a bit of money for what ever eventuality comes around.

Thanks for the support ladies, and I guess we will just have to hope and pray that this is our month.
