In the latest Farmers catalogue there is an Evenflo Discovery Capsule and Base with 20% off (so will be $159) that we are looking to get as I am really interested in one with a base.
Does anyone have an Evenflo capsule and how do you rate them to use and safety wise? Any comments appreciated. It seems to lay back alot more than most I have seen on the market, majority sort of scrunch the baby up and have a deeper "V" to them, can this affect the safety aspect because they are laying more as opposed to being scrunched up??? I need to bare in mind my chances of having a large baby are very high (DH was 10.4 and is 6ft 4 now)  So perhaps this could be a good option for us to go with??

Im not sure sorry, I will be using a capsule for the first time on number 2 as I used a reversable with Haleigh.

I have one of these (bought at Farmers during a sale too) and find it really good - the only down side being that it seems quite long - we had to put front seat quite forward to allow for the amount of space it says in the instructions - however I never tried any other models in our cars so not sure if this is the distance between seats in our cars or if it is the length of the capsule in the base.
One really good thing is that you can buy extra bases (we borrowed from sister in law) so you could keep one in each car. SIL is still using the capsule in one car and her bub is 8.5 months but hasn't grown out of (length or weight) |

we have a evenflo with maddy and it was great andn ever have had any problems the base is great to so much easier then having to deal with a seat belt etc will be using it for this baby to/ -------------

Faraway - that is something I also thought about as it seems very long compared to others!
EllenMumof2 - I Agree re the base option, what a fantastic idea, can't be bothered fluffing around with seatbelts a million times a day! I don't own a car yet (will buy one nearer to the birth) as I have had a company car for last 6 years - oh boy am I going to miss the free petrol  So maybe when we look for cars we should try the capsule in it, although I am pretty sure we will go with a trusty ol Toyota Corolla Stationwagon!------------- http://lilypie.com"> http://lilypie.com">

Yup I LOVED my Evenflo with base!! They are quite bulky though (only just fit in my car) so make sure you try it out before buying a car. Having a base makes life so much easier and I bought some snap n go wheels so didn't have to take bubs out of the capsule at all. The only thing I would recommend is checking if your model can be used without the base. I couldn't with mine and it was a bit of a pain if I wanted to go in anyone elses car. We hired the Discovery's plus bases from Plunket and they were brilliant, they snap in and out of the bases so easily with no fiddling. And they can be used without the bases. Highly recommended here! -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

| The length of time you will actually use it depends on size of your baby, and how strong you are! We have just stopped using Isla's capsule this week as she has almost reached the top, even tho it said it would last up to around 9 months and 9kg,..shes only 6months and about 7kg. But I was also finding it way too hard to carry inside from the car with her in anyway! I dont regret buying one cos we got a p&t one that fitted in our p&t buggy so we didnt need a snap&go, but we used it for less time than we had predicted so would have been cheaper to hire. |

I have an evenflo capsule and base that i bought brand new from farmers for Bay and i found it awsome!!!! no complaints from me and i will be using it for Astin too the base was super handy to have!!

One thing I have noticed the Discovery does not have a 5 point harness, only what looks like a 3 point. Does this matter, like the baby won't slip out the sides if you know what I mean?? I'm sure the baby wouldn't slip out  The straps are pretty snug over bubs shoulders so holds them in place well. Mine is a 5 point harness though which I liked. We were given a Evenflow capsule with a base. It was great. I found it so easy to use, with the capusle that slots into a base also slots on to the supermarket trolley....so no need to take bubs out when you need to do the groceries....sorry just something I found useful when Tyrell was so young. Our only downside was he grew out of it so quickly, he reached the length and weight before he was 5 months old....luckly we didn't buy one! |

I actually found those harnesses better than the 5 point harness on newborns coz you can put them in them wrapped up (as long as the straps sit snugly over their shoulders) and there's not struggling to get tiny newborn arms through the straps, they just pop over bubs head. You adjust the chest plate up and down to secure bub snugly so they can't slip out. ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

FWIW, Evenflo are now discontinuing their 3pt. Evenflo Discoveries and replacing them with 5 pt. harnessed infant seats. We have an Evenflow Discovery, and I bought it on when it was on special too, however I didn't buy it with the base - kicking myself for that now! But have enquired into purchasing the base seperately and you can - even though its quite costly. But will probably buy it when we have another bubba.
I find them great! They aren't too hard to get into the car, they fit over the child seat on shopping trolleys (as Amy said) and the straps etc are easy to adjust - once you get the jist of it, but they are long - however I think Elle will be in it for a while - so thats the plus side of that. We looked into hiring one and thought that by buying one we really aren't losing any money - especially as we will be having more than 1 baby and if you keep them in good nick they hold their value fairly well. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

This is great to hear. Have just bought mine from farmers with base and got 30% off!! so stoked!
Only thing is it takes up rather a lot of room in the back seat of the car! ek didnt realise my back seat is quite small! |
