Okay I actually scurry around and try and throw everything behind doors ect and put clothes on McKayla if she took it all off.

And then only do I put perfume on or something like that.

I say "the house is a pigsty, you're welcome to come if you're wearing protective clothing and sign a disclaimer at the door"

That is a good one Emma. I still make a comment like that but I still run around like a mad thing trying to make it look like a bomb didnt hit our place.

With a kid around it is just impossible.

Absolutely! Fresh deodorant, quick toy-tidy (I get used to stepping over them but others don't), dishes at least tidy, table cleared (yep, cause I usually don't clear the table of dishes until the next meal )... and now that I'm in this place I have to do a whizz over the laundry as well cause our front door basically goes right into the laundry - dumb design lol.

It was worse when I had just one. There was less mess but I felt that because I had one child that others would think I "ought" to have things all together. Especially if it was mine or DH's mum And I was working part-time!

It depends on who it is ....if its family, then they take us as they find us. If its someone else...then I vary my panic appropriately!

To be honest, my place tends to look worse after people HAVE been over....mainly because they often have kids who pull all the toys out of the toy box (we dont have kids but we have a toybox!!) and my brother seems to leave a trail of mess behind him throughout the house...not sure how he does it sometimes!!!! I dont really care - we love having kids over!

Everyone who knows me knows i am a lazy slattern, so the house is how it is and thats their problem!

the only time we tidy up is when we are haing a group around and we need more room! or if there is lots of time we might straighten a few things up too.

Try to tidy up as much as I can, and as I'm most likely still in my dressing gown, I'll get dressed and put concealer on under my eyes and on my nose, cause I get a really red, shiny nose and I'm paranoid about it..

I can recall a time I caught you still in your jammies.... although you probably get away with that one coz Jayde was only a couple of weeks old

If I had been warned today I would have gotten out of the pj's, brushed my hair, and put deoderent on. Thankfully it was only my Dad, but he did give me an odd look. I figure I have a 5 week old, I can do as I please

yell at them to give at least two hours notice!! my MIL is always dropping by and I always feel guilty as the place is hers. I always think she is judging me...little by little I am starting to care less and less though.

I normally have a quick tidy up, do dishes that are waiting to be done, clean up Olivia and what not. I am quite house proud and hate people coming over and seeing my mess!

I usually say 'sure but it aint pretty... your funeral...' or words to that effect. Although we dont have kids, we do have a house that isnt wheelchair accessible. We had to choose it in a hurry, and didnt have time to find one that met our needs perfectly. We are getting home help funded and have an appointment for an assessment on Monday so they know what needs to be done. Problem is, I am going to run around like a mad hatter tidying the house so its spotless as she will have to look into every room, and it will be so tidy that she will probably decide that we dont need their services!

So maybe just do the basics, and let her see how much help we need. Still embarrasing tho, Im very houseproud, and in a perfect world would love to have it spotless.

Mostly I ask people to give me at least 20mins warning so the place is habitable, and anyone that turns up under that time even tho they have been told, they can help me do the housework!

We do the same...I chuck all that needs hiding in the spare room and hope like Mad that no one wants to see my Bedroom (Shock horror!!!! ). Our lounge is usually tidy but toys are always on the floor. I tidy like mad and when I turn around the toys are on the floor again! Arrggg

I think well every one knows that I have a toddler so there......

But yah my Bedroom is a major problem. it only looks decent on weekends!

I don't get the 5 minutes warning - most people just arrive here, and we're lucky if they knock before walking in!  (my MIL and one of my many BIL's practically sneak in - seriously, the first we know they're visiting is when they walk into the lounge!  ).  So I don't get the chance to tidy up.  I tidy throughout the day anyway though, and while I don't like dirty dishes staring visitors in the face (kitchen is in the lounge) and when I had a newborn hated opening the door to people in my bathrobe, everyone who comes here just takes our place as it is.  My MIL is a fanatic cleaner but she's never commented about my house-keeping, and mum is just the opposite, and her only comments are along the lines of "I don't know where you got this from, sure wasn't your parents".  And our friends are the non-judgemental type who wouldn't think any differently of me for not sprucing up for them    They just accept us in our half-finished DIY disaster of a house.

What - do people actually let you know that they are coming??!! We don't get those kind of warnings - people just turn up on our doorstep or else organise a visit waaaaaay in advance as we tend to not be at home lots (kids sports etc). I usually have the house pretty tidy anyway - can't relax when it is in a mess.

Like others, people take me and my house as they find me, I have a manget that says " We cant both look good, Its either me or the house"..

Plus people come to see us not my house, If you dont like it then dont come.. simple as that :)
