DH & I were thinking it would be quite nice for us to go to dance classes, something we've wanted to do for a while and it'd be almost like a date (or a few!). Has anyone been to dance classes? What are they like, what do you recommend, etc?

Are you talking latin and Ballroom?

I love it! We did the beginners course prior to our wedding, then about a year later did it again with friends prior to their wedding. We then decided to go on. We have since sat our social pin, and would have sat bronze level if I hadn't got pregnant!

You start off with basics in most of the obvious dances - waltz, chacha, foxtrot, rhumba, and different schools will also teach rock and roll, quickstep, american hustle and a couple of others. generally things like tango and paso doble don't come in till later on in the sjkill level.

We found that we were pretty good at it, though DH was much better than me as he is a musician witha a really good sense of rhythm. There were all sjkill levels, especially at the beginner classes, and a good teacher will get you through it in a fun and not embarrassing way.

I can't wait to get back to lessons, though sadly our teacher is stopping teaching this term due to personal committments :( So we will have to look elsewhere which is sad.

The best thing is when you combine a nice meal out with a dance class - you really feel like you are on a date then!

Is a class usually an hour once a week? Or two hours? I'm not sure what we'll take yet, probably ballroom but I kinda wanted to get a feeler out there before I go all serious and ask around... or maybe I'm just shy

I know quite a few couples who come over to Palmy on monday nights for Ceroc (is that how its spelt?) and love it! One couple has even statred doing competitions. Apparently its a beginner class and each week at the start you learn a new move, then spend the rest of the night putting them all together. If you want more details let me know

I'd really recommend the ballroom and latin....it's so much fun and normally the studios also have social nights so you can go practice your new skills.

I'd love to go back but B and I are at different levels and for me it would be too much money.

when i was younger i did ballroom and latin with my brother. it's sooooo much fun!!
DH has surprised me with classes for my bday pressie. we are hoping to go to aaron gilmore's classes once he's finished with DWTS.
most classes in chch are 1hr a week for 8-10wks but some are 1.5hrs. i would recommend 1.5hrs as 1hr is too short.
i say go for it!!!!!!
