Briona was playing on the top bunk today (instead of sleeping  ) and has since had a sleep, but woken up grumpy (not unheard of) but now she won't cheer up and has developed a rumbly throat. I can't see any bumps and there's definitely no blood, what else do I check for? Trying to do a google search but not doing too well.-------------  |

Oh no! Check that both her pupils are the same size and both move at the same time, eg following your finger.
Watch for dizziness, sleepiness (unusual sleepiness, and hard to wake) and vomiting. Hope she's okay Teresa, and as always, if in doubt about anything take her to the doc for peace of mind. ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

Since the crying does stop, it's more grizzling on/off than full-on crying, I'm guessing there's no link between the throat thing and her bump. She did wobble when she first got up off the floor but not since then. TLC will be my rule of thumb tonight. ------------- |

Thanks Mel, I had forgotten the eye check but yep, she's focussing. I'll watch her sleep overnight.

I feel like a paranoid first-time mum all over again! (No offence!) Her underarm temperature is 37.5 and they tell me that underarm temps are usually 0.5-1.0 lower than accurate. Now I'm a bit worried again. ------------- |

Thanks, I've just put her to bed and I'll go check her breathing and temp again in about an hour. It's just hard to tell where soreness leaves off (she's too young to tell us if/where it hurts) and tiredness kicks in ------------- |

Hmmmm 38.0deg (underarm) but roused okay, breathing okay, knew who I was. Now I'm wondering if there's no concussion but she might be coming down with something just coincidentally at the same time (cause I don't think high temps go with concussions usually, especially when there's no other signs). MIL asked if she has a break, well I rubbed her whole body down and there was no bumps and no flinches. I sure hope she's okay in the morning. ------------- |

keep checking on her...or if you are worried keep her up esp for a concusion...she shouldnt be allowed to sleep!
have you got a monitor on her bed still? perhaps put one on tonight if you cant keep her up for a while? BUT if temp goes higher at next check please take her to a clinic. Man you guys have had a rough time lately in your house. HUGS |

You're right that concussion and temp don't go together, and she could be coming down with something, but in light of the fall as well it might be worth getting her checked if only for your peace of mind. You're pretty sensible tho,and you know her best, so you'll know if she's out of sorts and needs a doctor. Unfortunately it seems these little accidents they have don't teach them a lesson, Maya put her tooth thru her bottom lip yesterday jumping on the couch, and within an hour she was back at it again ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Ah well I know that they don't "only do it once" as many people have tried to tell me. She's already been up on that top bunk twice today after the fall, can you believe it!!!!
Anyway, I was off to bed at 9.30 and took her temp once more - 37.9 so basically the same. Then I had the idea to check her pulse and it was 140pm - after having slept for 2 hours! I didn't like that at all so I took Janine's sage advice and got to the City Doctors 20 mins before closing time. The Doc there said I was right, high pulse and temp don't marry with a fall, he says a nasty cold is doing the rounds at the moment (coughing, feeling miserable, achey joints) and about when he said that Briona let out this dry old bark.... yep she's getting a cold. But fortunately it means we've got some anti-inflam for her tonight and now she's tucked back into bed and I can sleep calmly (All that for a cold! lol)

oh sorry to hear she is getting sick....but at least it is nothing more serious.
HUGS for the week to come with her being sick and probably passing it onto aa least half the household...but at least youll be able to cope better now no cast on.... |
