hi there
I've really enjoyed working on the babies room for our wee man.. We have put the cot together, the changetable, picked up a chest of drawers for all his wee clothes last week , also just bought & put together a nursing chair with footstool - It's so exciting to see it all coming together & that there will be a real baby in it soon!!
Wondered how everyone else who is planning is doing & if you've been having as much fun as we have?

Yup I had fun putting together our mans room and turn from a bombsite where everything baby related got dumped into a useable bedroom

Yeah I have definatley loved it, I have done a whole lot of art work including some canvases with her name on it _ Ella.
We have finished setting it up now and am just waiting to fill it with bubs.,
The only downside is we got everything in wood and it was next to impossible to get the wood to match( could not do white as that is the colour of the room) we did not want to paint as the whole house is the same colour and we dont expect to be here long
You should post pics of the babies room - I will try and figure out how and do it also

he he.. that's exactly what ours looked like too because we dumped everything there after we bought it - room looks completely different now though - it used to be our music room full of guitars, drums & other audio equipment..
Gee only 38 days to go for you kebabkat!! You must be so excited!!

Sounds fab lilnutnut - Your canvases sound great too - we have a couple of learning alphabet & colour charts on the wall but have been looking at other things to add colour too.. Our walls are all white too & we decided we wouldn't paint but would try to make the room as colourful as possible.. most of the babies things are white painted wood - but hoping that with the babies bed covers & mobiles etc that it will not look too white!
I was hoping to find a good website that had nursery templates but not been that impressed with what I've seen..
I will definitely find a way to post photos of the nursery once it fully complete -which isn't far away at all
You also don't have far to go either! Yay!

If you want to brighten the room up, try stikarounds. They are great because you can move them and you can get some really funky ones.. these are some of the ones we have used..

Well to be honest I got my inspiration from Kebakat, I saw her art work of the animals and did some like those, nowhere near as good - I added my flair by putting in eyes and fluff.

Yeah I got most of my ideas of trademe - like the name canvases with woodden letters.
I thought that even though it would have looked better if it was done by an artist I wanted to add my touch it makes me know I had a part of it.
I have taken pics I just need to figure out how to get them onto my computer

oh trademe is great! I agree -personal touch is important.. I got some plain wooden letters from spotlight so we can put my little mans name on his door & I have painted them myself. Was a bit of fun
umm, not sure if you know - i'm not too good with these sorts of things myself & havn't tried it but - your camera should come with a lead that connects it to your computer & sometimes your camera comes with software which you'll have to install first into your computer but sometimes you don't need the software & all it takes is plugging the lead in & see what happens. Hope this is helpful for when you get a chance to do it

Thanks stacey really love those stickarounds & your lil mans room is looking great! Mirrors a good idea above his cot too!
We have a bassinette similar to yours too - which is in our bedroom.. I was going to move bubz from our room to his cot in a few months..
Do you mind me asking about your theory of putting his basinette in his cot? is he staying their from the start? I'm still not 100% sure what we're doing

There's a few reasons but a big one is space. We can't fit it in our own room (but never wanted it in our room). And his room isn't a big room, it just takes up less space if its in the cot. He has a big as walldrobe to make up for the lack of space though. Also I figure it might make it a tad easier later on when he moves into his cot, at least the "scenery" will still be the same for him. It's also a nice height.

ahh.. I see makes perfect sense! I have been told to get baby out of our room as soon as we can..
I just thought it would be easier for me for when i'm first breastfeeding so I can go straight from bed to him, feed him, put him down & hop back into bed again.. Although we have purchased monitors - I know I'm just going to be so paranoid about cot death to start with so wanted to keep an eye on him when he's quite wee.
I thought initially we might have him in our room in his bassinet for up to 3mths then try him in his cot.. but I might trial putting his bassinet in his cot a bit earlier so he gets used to his room.
thanks stacey

Our baby's room is sort of set up, still want to get more wall art & as for the name, well will have to wait til its born to see what it is first!
My friend's sister is borrowing our bassinet (similar to yours sparkle) so not sure when we'll get that back but of course before the babe is born!
So no point showing off the room at the moment, have lost interest at the moment in doing anything too it.

Wow, lovely rooms everyone!
We are just getting the room in order now, it is so much fun! I will post pics once it is sorted. We will have name blocks too, once bubs is here and we know the name for sure. I scrapbook and it is something done in scrapping circles, though i am nowhere near as creative as most of the scrapping stuff I see!
We are going with some animal paintings too- since I got pregnant i have become strangely obsessed with giraffes, somethign that has never stood out to me before, so i am picking bubs likes giraffes!
Just got to get it all organsied.

She had the best idea with her baby room - she has hung thing from her ceilings they are foam stars and moons etc on long wire.
She was an interior designer so the room is very styley very simple but styley

Lol! we have a brightly coloured giraffe as a newborn rattle/toy in babies bassinet & had forgotten about it because we have the bassinet covered with a sheet at the mo' so it doesn't get dust etc on it... over the weekend we bought a really neat giraffe soft toy which is about the size bubz will be when he's born - it's now sitting in bubz cot.. not sure what it is about giraffes but they're cute & yeah - we're sold on them too

What is everyones opinion on colour - can you have too much, the room I saw in the weekend was all white even the duvet etc.
Can colour be unsettling?

I love colour. I think a room with everything white and no colour would be boring as anything to a child. Some colours are meant to be soothing and at least with colour the room is interesting. I couldn't imagine a child in an all white room, I can imagine trying to keep everything clean once the child gets a little older would be a nightmare!

I'm sure you would want colour in a baby's room as you want to stimulate its visual development. Baby's eyes need colour, motion and detail...If bubs spent all day lookng at a white wall you could run into probs. go with logic and make it fun.

Colour in a babies room is a definite thumbs up
I'd rather have a cheerful colourful room instead of drab boring one - that's why we're trying to add as much colour as we can - babies need colour for stimulus too! I would prefer to have something cheerful to look at when i wake up or go to sleep -your ideas & decorating looks great lilnutnut!

Someone came up with a great thing that as a baby is looking up all the time they need stimulation above them - any cool ideas apart from cot mobiles.
My friend has silver foam stars and moons hanging from the ceiling on long wire but would want some colour and something that would not make the room look too busy as we have alot of other things

I just wanted to say how cool it has been to read about all your adventures getting your babies rooms ready, and the photos are very cool.
I'm a tad sad really cause our baby isn't going to have it's own room as we are only in a 3brm house and can't afford to move to a 4brm, so baby will be with us for as long as we can bare, and then will be moved in with Nyah... so we've dedicated one corner as the baby's corner in our room, we even have to put the drawers in our wardrobe so we still have room to move....
Sigh.. the joys of living in Auckland!

So here's a peek at baby's room. Very boring at the mo, trying to work out what to do with the wall that the cot is up against.
In our previous house we got a stencil of fish & made a feature wall with brightly coloured fish which was quite cool. Am thinking I might do that with that window/door wall.
Bassinet is being borrowed by a friend & will be in our room to begin with anyway.

I like the idea of stickers = saves making holes in the walls for hanging things & can easily be removed/changed around. Would like to get baby's name, once its born, in a sticker too. Saw it done in the recent Cosmo Pregnancy book, & funnily enough it was in a baby girls room called Anouska!!
